Oh and yes, "Džanum" was recorded for the popular Serbian crime drama television series "South Wind". So we hear gunshots and there are also scenes of blood and shooting. The main character is a young criminal and the series revolves around his life and how his choices affect those he loves. They are constantly in danger. He doesn't seem like a bad person but is proud and young and makes mistakes.

The song "Džanum" was written and recorded by Teya Dora for a sad scene from the crime film (series) "Južni vetar" (eng. "South Wind"), however, that scene was removed from the film, but then this song was set for the opening credits of that series. Teya Dora is highly educated in music, she studied at the same college with Charlie Puth in Boston. She lived in New York for a while. She even wrote songs for others in English and Serbian, she wanted to build a career in America, but due to a combination of various circumstances during the corona pandemic, she stayed in Serbia and started her musical career there and managed to conquer the world audience with one song and got the opportunity to represent your country at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Red is agent with codename Crveni (in Serbian lit. meaning The red one), a heavily corrupt agent of the secret service, the white figure is Petar Marash a young man naively believing he has the control over crime business, yet it is the secret service pulling the strings, sometimes at the cost of the life of others, including his beloved ones. For a better understanding, see Južni vetar - Na granici serbian series, released March 2023.

Hi. Do you know that Teya Dora studied at Berklee college with Charlie Puth? Please react to another amazing singer from Serbia called Zorja. She was in national finals in 2022 with song Zorja and 2024 with song Lice u ogledalu (A face in a mirror) Many consider her the best vocalist in Serbia. She is good as Teya Dora. You won't be disappointed.

Dzanum is also a song that came out at the same time when the riots ( Amok) happened in Serbia... 17 children were killed in an elementary school and 2 days later 9 people were also killed... otherwise the song talks about the constant struggle between good and evil. of violence, be it in the modern world or in the evolution of humanity ... it is the same struggle throughout the time of our creation ... that is why the scenes are like that ...

She doesn't say " Nobody wants my soul". Wrong translation. She says, "Nobody, my dear, wants to heal my wound, nobody wants my pain". Džanum is from turkish and means my dear, my sweetheart, my life. It is used in old Serbian songs when you address someone. She's telling her pain to someone (or even more probably speaks to herself - she has no one). The song is not directly about depression, it was made for a movie, for a tragic scene where a murder happens. The two silhouettes you see behind are the mafia boss (the bad guy), and the younger lad, the hero in the movie. The movie is called Južni Vetar (South Wind) and there are trailers to look at.

While technically speaking you are right about darling, Teya Dora's explanation from December 2023 given in interview for "Lično sa" (at fourth minute and fifth sec) was exactly how it is translated, she meant by that my soul, her own self, not darling.

  • @egyptianhibiscus9203

@@daylightflute Wrong. The interviewer asks her "Who is your Džanum" (the audience wants to know) - who is her beloved, darling. She says "Me myself, my soul". He says: " So you sing to yourself in the song" (you address your own self)? She says, no, God forbid (the matter of content which is quite gloomy). Then she says it's my father, my family (as her soul, her very dearest).

@@egyptianhibiscus9203 Yes, but the interviewer interrupts her. I believe she meant God forbid in a different sense. She doesn't sing for herself, but mentions her own soul. It is very tricky when it comes to understanding, especially translating lyrics, since sometimes they don't necessarily follow logic. I guess unless she explicitly explains it somewhere, we will never know. In another interview, she said she doesn't remember what she felt when she was writing the song, and that later other feelings rose. Bilo bi lepo da Teya napiše seminarski rad na temu svoje pesme, znam da nema preča posla, ali puno toga bi bilo publici jasnije.

@@daylightflute Yes, if there is opportunity, we should ask. I believe she wrote this when her father died. But in all songs it is used when addressing someone. You're telling your torments to a friend, or addressing the lover - that's mostly Džanum. There is "sanam" in Hindi songs, same meaning.

0:22 pronunciation would be Youzhnee vetahr - Nah grun-itsi (i like i in dat-i-ng), meaning South Wind - On the Edge, but Na granici can be translated also as At the Border. For a better understanding: Teya Dora, the singer who in the same time is the author spoke about this song in her interview "Teya Dora otkriva sve o novoj pesmi za Južni Vetar" done by Aleksandra Kundačina for Journal rs from March 25th 2023. When producers were preparing the 3rd season of the Serbian crime drama series "Južni vetar - Na granici" (South Wind - At the Border/On the Edge) they asked Teya Dora to write a song for the opening credits. She was inspired partially by Serbian mythology but also by some personal hard period she had few years ago. Therefore, the chorus goes "moje more, moje more" meaning my torments, though it can be translated as nightmares too. It was done in March 2023. The archaic word Džanum (Dž = J in John) has a Persian origin - jonoom, meaning my life. It entered however Serbian language during the Ottoman rule in the previous centuries. It can be translated as my darling, my sweetheart or my soul. Teya Dora mentioned in another interview from December 2023 given for "Lično sa" (at fourth minute and fifth sec) explained she used the word Džanum in sense of my soul, her own self, not darling.
