Textured Slab Folded Side Bowl for Empty Bowls or Ceramics II

This video demonstrates the process of creating a texture slab bowl with folded sides in the plastic stage. I don't show the leatherhard cleaning process... but it is very simple to tidy the edges when leatherhard. Texture shown is using a plaster impression mold.
This was made for my Ceramics II students who create a textured slab set, as well as my students participating in the Empty Bowls project to benefit our local area food Pantries. We participate in the empty bowls bowl making every year to donate to our local chapters.

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...
I started my KZread channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!

I'm going to try this myself, only that I want the texture on the outer sides only. I'll have to make the templates, so it works well. I'm going to make a tortilla bowl, with matching top, and a gallery for the lid. Any ideas on the best way to do this?

+John Shachter (Desert Rock Pottery) Hi John! If you are making a bowl in which to place tortillas, you may consider just doing a flange down from the lid in lieu of a gallery on the pot itself? It may be a bit easier? :-)

I am not 100% sure, since I'm not currently at school to measure it, but I am guessing it was about a 12" circular pattern and I cut the darts out of it. :)

Could you possibly try to make the ceramic bowl with the lid that you see from the anime movie Ponyo and if not you should look at that movie and make one if you can.
