No kidding. I was a die-hard Houston Oilers fan and then they moved away and it was never the same. The Texans I never got into at all. I'm a UT grad and at least another reason I love college more is that the Longhorns cannot ever be moved away like that.

It's back now

My son was in The Longhorn Band the whole time he was at The University of Texas and he had a blast.

I am a lifelong Buckeye. But, I love great bands no matter where they are. The Longhorn band is a mighty band. Much respect to the Big 12 from this B1G 10 fan.

Just imagine… being there opposing teams band and it’s quiet and all of a sudden you hear the drum cadence followed by BIG BERTHA like c’mon 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾

The Big Bertha drum impressed me even as a little kid watching UT games.

I love how the band points in different directions while marching onto the field. Sometimes you are in seats that don't face the band and you miss out on a lot. They made sure everyone got a few bars of powerful brass!

A dream come true for anyone to make it in that band

I’d imagine you have to be 1. Really smart to even get into Texas and 2. Really good to march in the band. Texas is one of the best music schools out there.

I was in marching band in HS and one thing that most people don't understand is how hard it is to march in formation and play. You have to count steps, count for the music, keep track of which notes to play, and all that while trying to move in formation. Notice at the 1m50s mark when they start to march onto the field and how they take the field. The next row lines up on the end zone line, then every other musician marches out, the ones remaining have to mark time (march in place) and then go at predetermined interval. And as they leave, the next row steps up and does the same. The precision is the hard thing to get right and they're doing it really well. That's a shit load of practice you're seeing.

As the father if two "band weenies" I can attest to the long hours of practice. My daughters had the good fortune to be in one of the best, in my opinion, 5A hs bands in the state of Texas. I can guarantee the band worked longer and harder than the football team, and it showed.

@@russellgtyler8288 - While band works hard, I can guarantee you they don't do as hard of work as the Football players. Sorry bro, you're wrong about that part. Band never once had to endure 2-a-day workouts that involved hard physical activity. Football teams do that for months in the off season. Sometimes 3-a-day workouts.

@@jontnoneya3404 as a long time Football Player for many many years, and only been doing Band for 2-3 (also playing 5 other sports), I disagree. Band is physically draining waking up in the mornings for long 8 hour practice, have to carry some heavy weight around (as a percussionist) all while keep your crap memorized and making sure you look good while doing it. I’m a great Football player as well play Running back, DE, and all other skills, but I’ve never had to but as much effort and work into Band as I have for any other sport also being good at those being Tennis District Champ, AAU Basketball MVP, Fastest Track Runner in lots of our Track Meets…

Wrong. Unless there is something wrong with your head, it’s all memorization. I was in a 4A band all 4 years of HS, 2 as sax and 2 as snare. I never counted steps, counted for music, any of that stuff. We drill it so much, it’s all memory after a few weeks. I just used to shut down inside and go with the flow, trust myself to know the show. And watch the DMs.

Much respect to the Longhorn Band and staff. After my playing days were over the only football excitement I knew was always my Aggies and the Longhorns. I miss playing you Texas even when we got beat everyone knew that was our best because best efforts were given.

This game is forever iconic.

Best 4.5 years (5 marching seasons) of my 20s. Class of '05...last game was THE championship game (Vince Young). Incredible!

This just about the most exciting event ever and my heart is beating like a buzz saw and how proud can you get without bursting out crying.

So was my daughter. A freshman member of Texas Drums, playing the cymbals. This was very first game as a member of the LHB, and I warned her ahead of time that this would be utterly anything like what she experienced in high school band.

@@padraicfanning7055 The Mason jars thing does happen, but not often. Mason jars are a bit on the small side. That Texas Longhorn moved to Alabama "to be near family." The lure of grandchildren is strong.
