    Fun fact, most embassies in Washington DC today are still located in different buildings across the city. Embassies are groups of people, not buildings. The headquarters building of an embassy is called a chancery.

    Legations are likewise the people of a diplomatic mission, but ranked as second-rate compared to embassies which originally would only be sent between major kingdoms. The rise of the US and France as republic great powers broke down this hierarchy over the next century. The last legation to exist was the Swedish one to South Africa, who had suspended their diplomatic developments to ZA in protest of apartheid until that broke down in 1994.

    The part about Mexico taking the time off. It seems many times Mexico once again took the time to concentrate on Texas that things did not go the way the Texans would have liked. If Texas had not become a US state more then likely Mexico would have taken control once again. In the end, the US more then likely knew Texas would become a state. After all, it was full of US citizens that had settled there for the free land.

    Michael Kidd I’m the other type of Irishman again, and I say in the words of the late Rev. Paisley “ I say if they don’t behave themselves in the south, there will be shots across the border” Edit: I’m only sleggin, I suppose from the outside some may see it as a type of proxy war, with the free state providing sanctuary for provos to run across the border after attacks, and loyalist incursions into Monaghan and of course the Glenanne gangs bombings of Monaghan and Dublin, and the supposed involvement of British intelligence with the Mid Ulster UVF(Glenanne gang) also the very real likelihood there was of a potential conflict of the IRA and Carson’s UVF over home rule, but then of course it was all Ireland at that stage before partition.

    The Mexican government handed out land grants for free to use the settlers as a literal meat sheild from the native Americans in the plains, because the Mexican army was unable to prevent tribes like the Comanche who were experts at horseback warfare, from going and progressing farther down into Mexico were they would torture kill and rape homesteads to expel people. Idea for a video: if a person was born in a sovereign state that was annexed by the US, would they qualify for president? Would any of the Texans who served as "ambassadors" to the US be eligible to run for president, or if the US annexed British Columbia (for example), would a person born in BC then be eligible to run for president?

  • @BlueEsplosion

    @BlueEsplosion

    Ik this is a year late, but the answer is no. You have to be a naturalized citizen in order to run for president, and the US determines that as someone who was born on US soil. Since it wasn’t US soil at the time of birth, then it wasn’t US soil period. Not an expert btw but I’m pretty sure I’m right

    I mean, it wasn’t *just* a cessation of conflict. We didn’t just “take it as a win”. We got General Santa Anna to sign a peace treaty after the Battle of San Jacinto, and then when he got back to his seat of power he just recanted. Iirc, it was something about Texas not being a sovereign region and therefore the peace treaty was void, since in Mexico’s view they weren’t at war with an independent power but were putting down a particularly large-scale, well-organized, and surprisingly effective insurrection. But we *did* have his signature on a treaty that recognized Texas as sovereign territory, so it was kinda mixed messages.
