I honestly do not believe the police failed to act because of cowardice. One person misread the situation, and he gave an order that was followed in an attempt to do the right thing. So many people, including law enforcement, will have to live with the unbearably tragic consequences.

Even if it was mistakenly categorized from “active shooter” to “barricaded shooter” the scene was not secured. Kids could have been bleeding out & needed medical help. Lives were still at risk & never stopped being at risk until the gunman was killed. Clearly not a “barricaded” shooter if gun shots were heard “sporadically”. The whole tactical response between what is “active” to “barricaded” to “hostage” needs to scrutinized especially if it’s a mass shooter situation. He is “barricaded” but still shooting? Common sense was lost & this tragedy needs to exposed for all its ugliness and incompetencies.

Class doors are designed to keep people out. The shooter was shooting at officers inside and outside. No knock warrants are done so the perps (who are very dangerous) don't have a chance to grab their guns and shoot officers.

Forget the chief of police, what about those officers who were hearing shots being fire and stood there doing nothing! Terrible call from the police chief but they had plenty of time to fix it and save some lives. This is shameful

And to top it all off the shooter is in a school full of children. Fire them! They did not do their job! After Columbine the protocol has changed for a shooter in a school. They are to get in their and do their job.

The statement made from a little boy of officer outside that door saying "If you need help yell" then saying a child in that class did just that...and the gunman walked over and shot him- was the most sickening thing I have ever heard in my life! Children locked in room with gunman- who in the hell would NOT just assume they needed help?? There is no way in the world these cowards can get around the 911 calls coming from inside those classes starting at 12:03 and continuing until 12:50, with children begging for help and saying they can hear the officers outside their classroom door.

No matter who it is that needs help, you cannot just kick the door in and run into the room. The guy is shooting at anything that moves, what good is a cop if he tries some hollywood stunt and gets shot in the face? They have to be strategic in the approach. Its the saddest thing in the world when i child is taken from us but there is a process that typically saves more lives than it cost. Noone has a single thing to say about the teacher propping the door open? Witnessing a man shooting at police and decides to just leave the door open? Seems to me the fatal mistake was the teacher running for the phone instead of locking down the door they curiously left open. The timeline says the teacher went to prop the door 1 minute before it started and then had all that time to lock it to save the kids. There were police there already shooying it out with him so why was it more important to call the police when you know it has already been radioed in? People are so damn fast to blame cops for a citizens actions they have no problem overlooking the critical detail that was literally life or death for those kids. Those officers can say screw this i quit and walk off the scene just as easily as anyone else can quit their jobs. We should be so lucky they are willing to take fire to do whatever they can to save as many as possible. This situation sucks but people seem to find a way to have unreal expectations and place the blame on anyone but those responsible.

I cant believe he had the balls to say, "i'm glad no officers were injured," as they sat outside doing nothing while children died.

This is totally shameful and sad that they did not act to save the lives of innocent children. They all have vests and guns. Those children had nothing and were very scared. The pure horror of the time ticking by. Those parents would have rushed the shooter and risked it all for their children. No armor no guns. The wrong call and we need better.

The agony these families must be feeling is overwhelming. May God help us. How can those officers not act? Regardless of what the commander said to do or not do, to stand in the hallways and hear shots and screams of children is incomprehensible. Shame on them. The shooter was shooting through windows at officers and at officers inside. All accounts indicate that the shooter got off 100 rounds or so before police got there. Those 3 Uvalde officers tried to enter the classroom but could not. Two of them were shot. All indications is that those 100 rounds before the officers arrived were what killed children, but not all of them. Some survived. Officers were not sitting on their butts sipping coffee while children were be shot. I doubt children were screaming. That attract attention to the child. There is one report that a child who did scream for help got shot by the shooter. One child who called 911 was told to be very quiet. Kids in other classrooms were calling. They eventually heard police next door to them.

Their negligence cost 21 civilians to be killed while they sat comfortably behind the wall waiting for a key when they could have bust the door open. There was even video evidence of a parent recording an officer scrolling on Instagram while the target was still in the building. And for the little kid who called out for help he did that because an officer told him to which got him killed. The police failed them period

Meanwhile about two weeks prior, a single retired police officer who was working as security at grocery store in the Buffalo NY massacre noticed a gunman fully armed shooting, and he immediately (without any squad, backup) took action to stop the shooter. An oldergentlemen, all by himself, so freaking brave, like a true hero he is and will forever be, went against the bullets from the gunman, attempting to stop him at all costs, which allowed all the people inside the store to escape to safety. One retired officer. Yes, he died, but died as an honorable hero. In Uvalde, 19 fully armed officers did nothing, regardless of crying desperate pleads, did nothing to save little children, they hung out in their safety zone, with a wall between them and the shooter . Out of those 19 cops, not a single sweat gland of bravery, honor, or care to take initiative knowing of the continuous rounds of fire towards another target child, NO ONE BRAVE ENOUGH to say F**k this damn waiting, Im going in!!! What a fkn disgrace, just even a man, let alone, they were law enforcement. THEY STOOD THERE DOING NOTHING to stop the gunman, Yet Stopped, and arrested parents with their weapons willing to face the shooter. They weren't cops, they were Bouncers to a child killing spree inside. they were BOUNCERS, protecting entrance to put a stop to the carnage allowing it to happen. There was a big difference in these two situations that you tried to compare. In the Uvalde shooting the suspect was barricaded and the police didn't have immediate access to him...and there were hostages in the Uvalde situation which further complicated the police response.

They gathered in the hallway, and any action they might of done, was on the parents trying to jump hoops to get to their children as the saw the police literally stand there, all while rounds fire continued repeatedly within that one hour the waisted For immediate access, All they had to do, was to go around on the opposite side of the building (the side facing the street ,where they had two big wide and very accessible windows to take down the shooter. But no lightbulb upstairs lighten up with any strategy and We can't blame defunding the police for no lightbulb or incompetence THey even had on campus training 2months prior on how to handle an active school shooter . The suspect was barricaded behind locked classroom doors...even the border patrol tactical team couldn't breach the doors and they had to get a key from a janitor to get inside the classroom. The whole point of having reinforced walls and doors in classrooms is to prevent easy access in the event of an active shooter....Schools in this country practice drills that teach the teachers to take the students inside the classroom and lock the doors and barricade the doors in the event that an intruder or shooter is inside the building. The doors are reinforced to stop an active shooter from being able to get into the classroom. Also, officers did try to make entry and two of them were shot....that's why they backed off and waited for a tactical team with ballistic shields and breach equipment. You all are expecting basic patrol officers in a small town to perform tactical maneuvers that they aren't trained for and don't have the equipment to carry out...you are expecting basic patrol officers to go on a suicide mission and be shot to death with a rifle that they don't have the armor or equipment to protect themselves from. It's an absolute tragedy that these innocent children and teachers were killed, it's horrible and heartbreaking! But police officers aren't sacrificial lambs....you cannot expect basic patrol officers to go into a situation that's typically handled by a SWAT or some type of specialized tactical team and hostage negotiators. If you want every basic patrol officer in this country to have the same equipment and training as a SWAT officer, every department in the country is going to need about 500,000 dollars per officer for equipment and specialized tactical training and they will need access to military grade equipment that our President just prevented civilian agencies from having access to.

@@AlvaBarr These officers saved more than 590 people that day. They went into the danger zone and safely evacuated the other students and staff members. You suggested that they go to the windows on the opposite side of the classroom....ok what happens if they do that and the shooter chooses to exit the classroom that he is contained in and start shooting the other children and staff members that are being evacuated? You have to understand that while the officers were in the hallway near the door to the classroom where the shooter was barricaded....there was an evacuation taking place at the same time. The best choice was to keep the shooter contained while the other students and staff were evacuated.

@@ishantahurdshoals , your kidding right? That's your logic??! IF THAT Would HAVE HAPPENED ( I wish) if he exists the class room, guess what? bullets would rain on him. He wasn't a professional shooter. He pulled the trigger hoping to hit. Far less casualties would of happened. Him locked up in a room full of kids was the best shot he'd get at close range and a target not moving. The Danger zone was inside that class room not standing out in the hallway. There was enough law enforcement present to surround him on both sides of the building, equally disbursed. That would have been an excellent scenario. Plus, they weren't evacuating the children on that direction genius. They exited on the other side away from danger and plenty of people helping the kids out on the other side. After the two cops received a bullet, they retrieved to safety. Officer safety, leaving those children at the shopters mercy. And mercy wasn't there. Easier said than done but tha5s their job, they trained for it even and yet failed to save the lives of those children. I know law enforcement that are truly dedicated, fearless, with tactic and prepared to engage a shooting target. Those cops were looked Lost and disoriented with fear and consumed in cowardness. Yet brave enough to target parents. They failed to maintain their focus on the target and were derailed and disengaged on the mediocre bullshit . Every split second gone by turpitud is a walk they will have to carry. But whats the point now. Could of should have would have. They didn't. And those beating hearts won't be no more whatever we say or think. Its a big hole full of so much sentiment and thoughts but bravery and logistics from the first responders completely failed that community. If that were your child in that class you'd view this different. You'd want them full force to the shooter non- stop . Not waiting around for an hour leaving your defenseless child at the shooters aim and you know that.

They were 200 Cops armed to the teeth and they did nothing to save them, this is sickening.

Just an awful situation all around. 2 things resonate with me: 1. I thought I heard that a teacher propped open the door that the suspect ultimately used to gain entry into the school. 2. The time it took to breach the classroom seems excessive. Sadly, it’s likely that the damage was done long before a single law enforcement officer arrived on scene.

The bad call is one thing but he had 18 other officers at his command and didn't think to send anything to get eyes on the situation through the window... the officers, having followed his command are now being called cowards... but their not so innocent themselves as none of them broke command or better suggest going to a window.*

Basically the commanding officer on scene which the police chief is obviously defending, is saying it went from a active shooter in a school in a damn elementary School.. and they said the situation they thought had changed to a barricaded suspect?.. what a barricaded suspect where? Oh yeah a barricaded suspect who is an active shooter that was barricaded inside of an elementary school classroom.. and so when they make that determination that there's no more life at risk, what they're really saying is everyone in the room with the barricade suspect all the children and the teachers are already dead we'll take our time.. people were gravely injured and needed medical care ASAP not when it was safe and convenient for the police, but right away, not to mention people who played dead but all they said was basically we don't hear the gum and shooting anymore and we don't hear kids screaming anymore so no reason to rush in now they're all already dead.. that is the most outrageous egregious and unacceptable answer from any law enforcement that I've ever heard in my entire life, everyone involved should be fired in fact some of them should be charged with not defending the safety of the public which they sworn an oath to, we need to get rid of the police unions now all they do is make sure that police officers have easier and safer jobs with better pay, they work against the interest of the public that pays their paycheck, a public sector worker like police officers or teachers who are part of a privatized Union is a direct conflict of interest that causes these weak pussified want to be hero piece of s*** cops.. The amount of time it took them to get in there, there could have been children shot that were still alive, and could have still been saved, and they ASSUMED that everyone was dead and that it became a barricaded suspect. My heart breaks for the surviving children that had to go through this and the parents that will not see their children grow up.

No words can fix such a tragic situation. Blame is solely on the 18 year old shooter. What if... Isn't gonna fix this. My family is just sick with grief about this and we don't even know these children and community. I cannot imagine the grief these families are facing. Hashing over the technical facts of the situation isn't gonna fix this. God be with this community and ease their pain.

This is absolutely horrific! Those poor babies, those poor families! Do we know why the teacher had the door propped open?

The teacher saw the shooter with weapons, she stated that she saw him throw them over the fence as he climbed over the fence. If she saw this as she stated in her interview, that he was still yards away, it begs the question, again, why did she leave the door propped? She stated she ran into her class and hid behind her desk, but was almost certain he could see her. Again, we're missing crucial parts of how all this went down. Sadly the only for sure thing here is that these 19 babies are gone. 😪

At our school, sometimes our outside doors appear to have closed but didn’t. They sometimes have to be pulled shut to lock. Maybe she thought it shut good but didn’t.

Problem is, police have zero legal obligation to protect anyone. That was ruled in order to limit their liability. Like if someone tries to kill you, and the police get there too late, your family can't sue them or their department. Well, they got what they wanted. Also, their number one rule is to go home at the end of their shift. The idea that they really protect us is propaganda. They exist to enforce laws enacted by politicians, collect revenue, and make arrests.

I feel for this man, you can clearly see he is struggling with this….but these officers absolutely FAILED these children and their families! 19 officers and not one of them was brave enough to breach the door???? They must resign. Children literally BEGGING for their help and they chose not to give it…fear is human, understandable and not everyone can take on the responsibilities of a LEO, but this is utterly UNACCEPTABLE. Broke my heart when this officer started crying. He was not there and it seems as if he was they would not have been told to wait. This officer is the messenger. Remember he is human also and has seen and heard thing hopefully most of us would only see or hear in our nightmares. The commanding officer F*CKED UP beyond belief but this guy did not.

That on-scene commander screwed up plain & simple. How do you not think there were no children inside the rooms when you had multiple 911 Calls from the children begging for help inside the Rooms. I honestly think that commander needs to go back to Training because officers were supposed to enter the rooms & put the threat down. I also wonder why the School Resource Officer was not in the school grounds area because as a school resource officer it is his/her job to be there at the school so that's another question.

@Kiki No they didn't. The police had a shootout where several of them were shot. Then the gunman hid and there was no shooting for 35 minutes. You disgusting people claiming police just listened to a gunman shooting kids for 45 minutes doing nothing are DISGUSTING LIARS. They went room to room checking for gunmen and evacuating the kids inside. Then they surrounded the last room not knowing how many kids or gunman were in the room. The gunman fired three shots. After that a child called and said he had shot the door and that there were still kids alive in the room. The police then entered and killed the gunman.

I'm confused. The resource officer was in the same parking lot where the shooter first fired at the school, yet did nothing? Did I hear that right? If he drove past him and confronted a teacher, he had to of heard the shots

So let me see if I understand Mr Mcraw's statement, there were 19 officers inside the school while this was going on, mind you hearing children, babies being shot and the 19 didn't storm in to save these children, one of which was a little girl that called 911 and the shooter heard and saw her and killed her. My dear God. A child risk her life trying to save herself and the other kids, the 19 trained officers however didn't attempt to save them. How is this even possible. It's sounds awful. Poor babies.💔

I’m just disgusted by the police the fact that 3 days later they can stand here and say they made the wrong call and 19 minor children lost their lives including 2 teachers Praying for these families

This is so very shameful! The officers went in to rescue their own children, refused to allow any of the other parents to do the same, and waited an hour to confront the shooter.😭😭😭😡😡😡

So wait, all of these officers waiting for 70 something minutes outside of this classroom that had windows on the other side of the building? All this police presence and not one officer went to the outside of the classroom where everyone was waiting for 70 minutes and they had plenty of time to do so? They could have literally look through the windows and shot the shooter from that angle but it said they sit outside the door, they were so terrified that they can even think clearly enough to not only try to look through the window to try to get rid of the shooter but what about securing the window so the shooter didn't exit? If there was Windows in that classroom like they said there was and they didn't have any officers checking the windows which could have ended this way quicker the shooter literally could have broke out the window or open it and climbed out and ran away and no one would have known where he was, the complete and utter in epitome is amazing but if the cops are giving you a ticket or harassing you on some citation they sure as f*** don't forget the procedures and make sure that they use every trick in the book to try to screw you but active shooter they sit back well I guess all the kids are dead now I can't believe still this Chief is defending the fact that a so-called commanding officer made the call that since it's only sporadic gunfire and basically since everyone we think in the room all these children are dead we're just going to take our time because our safety matters, when it comes to any sort of tragedy violence or shooting law enforcement life do not matter, that's what they're paid to do that's why they get that extra little social credit that's why they can go into gas stations and get free coffee and donuts and all that stuff is because they're supposed to do that extra stuff but they're so cowardly that for 70 minutes they can't even think straight enough to realize to secure the window to the classroom they knew the shooter was in? This should not be acceptable to anyone ever..

The surgeon treating victims has more compassion . There could have been many more survivors had they gotten to them sooner. There was only one shooter and how many people that could have taken him down

YES I BELIEVE AFTER THE "INVESTIGATION" MOST OF THEM WILL BE WITHOUT JOBS. WILL GET FIRED FOR SUCH A DISGRACE.

As a Former Marine Assault Weapon access should only be to those in a profession like Law Enforcement with a minimum of 5 years of service just to make a purchase , or proof of Honorable discharge from the military period. This will be easier to track and weed out the gun heads in our society that have no clue of the dangers that these weapons have. It took them an HOUR to get in that school. The children that lived didn't even know the cops were in the school. He said there were supposedly 19 cops in the hallway at some point. 19 cops vs 1 sick and crazy 18 year old boy. They could've done something, they kept parents from going in there but didn't want to enter themselves. How wrong and cowardly to do that. My faith in the police across the United States is slowly going away. My son is just a baby yet. But I am scared and the world gives me more and more reasons everyday to homeschool him when he's old enough for school. Prayers for those poor babies ❤🙏 the teachers, and especially the families and loved ones of the ones who were lost. May our God grant you His grace, and comfort in this time of need ❤

Police Commander Pete Arredondo was a coward of the 1st Degree. Turn-in your badge because you’re a disgrace to your profession. And to those officers around him, learn a crucial lesson from his cowardly act that you are authorized to go to higher authorities if your immediate leader is conduct unbecoming. Cowardly, no ba11s Arredondo.

He is correct on one thing. My Sister is a teacher and all doors that enter the school are to stay locked when school is going on. All school doors are to remain locked at all times. All individual classroom doors are supposed to be locked as well by teachers with teacher and kids inside the classrooms too. This keeps the shooter from coming into the classroom harder buys you time to break windows to get kids out. The shooter sometimes if the door to classroom is locked might go check other doors until he finds one unlocked. So....why did the teacher prop the door open for shooter to enter? How did the shooter get into the two classrooms? They weren't locked. The teacher let him right into the school through the propped open door and unlocked classrooms doors. Teachers didn't follow shooter training protocol. Of course he can shoot windows to get in as well, but a teacher made it easier for the shooter to go right into the school. A shame. Teachers please learn from this, keep the classroom doors locked and don't prop any doors open.

Why Wasn’t the officer on campus.. he’s getting paid to protect the school and he wasn’t at the school... Complete incompetence by the school resource officer, by the teacher who left door open, and by the police For their cowardly response

How did he believe no one was at risk and he was a barricaded subject when people and children were calling 911 constantly all while hearing gunfire?? Funny how a single person gets to make those decisions.

Bad verbiage....seemed to mean that the shooting had stopped. Almost all the shots were before the cops arrived. Some shots after cops got there in the exchange of shots.

All school doors need to be locked! No one should be allowed in, or on the property. Lets protect the children,and staff! Prayers sent to all the families 🙏

@@ramonantonioesqueda9431 The shooter fired 100-300 rounds AT and INSIDE the school before the cops arrived. So most were already shot before the cops were able to contact the shooter. In 2-3 mins, the first 3 cops confronted the shooter at the classroom and exhanged gunfire. 2 cops were slightly wounded and driven back by rifle fire. The suspect barricaded himself inside the connected classrooms by locking the door from inside. Those school doors cannot be kicked IN. They are steel reinforced solid core and open OUT. So, the cops, by immediately engaging the shooter within 2-3 minutes stopped him from going through the other classrooms killing more kids. They saved many lives by trapping and containing the shooter in those limited rooms. they saved many lives.

Who the hell told him there were no more children at risk? It’s someone with a gun in a school! The dude in charge needs to get checked.

So many things don't add up in this evil act. For one, how did a broke 18 year old who couldn't even afford clothes have the money to buy two expensive guns and all that ammo. Two why was a door left proped open. Three no armed security guard that day. Four officers told to wait. Almost seems like it was set up to happen. Prayers for the families and those most affected and remember God now watches over these little ones and they will never experience any more pain or evil for eternity.

They are kids, they are only 10 years old kids, they are inside the room with a monster is going to shot them! What are you thinking, our police officers. Do you ever think?!!!This is absolutely awful!!!

Since columbine the plan was to follow the gun fire and engage aggressively. These "cops" fucked up on an epic scale. All of them need to be fired and pension taken. They even had the gall to detain the parents while the kids were being murdered. I hope they live with this guilt forever.

@@thelister4910 a building full of fireworks is not even a close comparison to children that cannot defend themselves. Those cops should have breached that door at least 35 minutes earlier than they did. I believe they could have saved some lives by doing so.

I lost it at the apology question as the DPS said if he thought an apology would help he would give it. That was extremely insensitive. These officers need to just admit that they failed to properly respond in a timely manner and dropped the ball on this investigation. For a small town they may have never seen this much action and regardless of training we’re probably ill prepared to handle it. They were likely scared, unwilling or tactically unable to properly respond. They were wrong. They failed those children. From the sister and friends who knew this kid was actively looking to buy guns, to the friends who joked about him shooting the school, to the teacher who left the door open, the lack of security on police grounds - to the police response. Everyone failed those poor babies. An apology is the least you can offer, Sir.

Maybe I - me - myself was raised by the greatest generation - my father - after storming the beaches of Normandy- he came home and was chief of police and professor of criminology - while growing up - I remember one of my father’s deputies - tiny - a large man - weeping and thank you for saving my life - I just froze - apparently my dad stepped up seconds and placed his thumb in between the trigger and saved Tiny’s life - my father put his life on the line and saved the one other soldier that survived on d-day - his name was Dan and years later I was told who I was named after as my name was not a family name and I always wanted to know how I was named after - the thing is - these officers that saved their own kids and not stay to save as many as they could - if this is true - they took self preservation over engaging their fear and saying “let’s roll” and get this suspect - this will serve as a wake up call for more training or to force some to make a career change - things are still coming out and I do not want to speculate- as I sit here this Saturday morning - I truly know they would have had to shoot me as well if my child was inside and hearing gun shots and nothing being done to resolve it - I pray for all those innocent kids and their family - god bless them all and god bless Texas as it try’s to heal from this tragedy

Teachers receive school shooter training...yes all doors to the outside must remain locked at all times while school is in session. All individual classroom doors locked too with teachers and students inside their individual classrooms. My sister is a teacher and this is part of their training. The teacher propped the door open and shooter walked right in...a great big mistake!

Texas Rangers look REAL tough now. They should televise a 41 minute moment of silence.

When the police were holding back the parents in the school parking lot, why were they handcuffed and pepper sprayed?
