Handled - because you answered my question.
The 1950's Gunsmoke episodes and Matt Dillon were unbeatable and the very best western T.V. show of all time.
@thesixshooter6506

Absolutely. This show set the standard by which all other westerns... before or since... are measured. There were several great ones during the genre's heyday, but none better than Gunsmoke.

At times, it was a bit unrealistic, like the scene of a bunch of Texas gunmen backing down from one man
Said it before and I’ll say it again; we need more men like Matt in this world.
Still the best show on TV
I have the entire series on DVD and the early 30 minute black & white episodes are my favorites. In those Marshall Dillion had a darker and rougher side to him that came out quicker and more often. One of the finest if not the finest series ever filmed for television, with casting that could not have been more perfect.
You might take a kitty, but you will PAY dearly for it. How long does it take for the word on Mat Dillon to reach the Texas cowboys. Coming into Dodge city making a ruckus NEVER ends well.👍 My man, James Arness... Rip.😢😢

Take a Kitty, take a bullet. Guess the reason word never got around was because... well... dead men tell no tales.

Plus Texas was in a distant galaxy and by time 'word' got there it had morphed into a kind of invitation. Which made for more great episodes. But as with any brand there are good ones and bad ones.
One if my favorite scenes. I love how Marshal defends and protects Ms. Kitty💖

The trail boss who tried to ht on Kitty was Rocky Lane, who starred in a series of B Westerns in the 1940s. He was also the voice of Mr. Ed.

Kitty wasn't afraid of much especially a drunken cowboy. The broken bottle is a great self defense weapon.
The guy who said he didn't want any part of this was John Mitchum, Robert Mitchum's younger brother.
Matt Dillon's job was unbelievably stressful. In many cases he didn't have the moral support of the town. Just Chester, Doc and Kitty. The first six seasons which the episodes are half hour were the best and when they came out on DVD I jumped at it. Some of the later one hour ones are ok but these are the best for me. Most of the common faces in 1950s films and TV had guest spots on the show (with 637 episodes total it was hard NOT to appear on the show) Love the part with Miss Kitty. NEVER mess with her in the wrong way, ever!!

@@muffs55mercury61 My rationale for his not taking Matt's help is he considered himself a loser all his life and saw the sentence as a way to end it as his life was never going to get better. Matt carrying Pruitt's hat was so sad.

We get it M-F, like the man said INSP channel, you probably get it.
Gunsmoke was awesome in the fact that they spun real stories into the story line of the show. The one man facing down a gang or lynching party or even posse was repeated over and over in the "wild" west. In the Tombstone movie at the end, the kid told the story of Wyatt Earp saving his uncle (?) from a lynching party and then the WE's character said, "some said it didn't happen that way." Then his wife number 3 said that it did. Some of the oral histories that circulate say that Earp took on a story about Johnny Ringo where JR did the same thing to a posse. Another story said when JR was somewhat mysteriously shot, that the gambler who was in the jail, who WE saved from the mob, was the person who shot Ringo.
Still watch it on Metv

Never waste the expensive liquor on a dead man. Even one just pretending to be.
Matt Dillon was a lawman but also a man. Had to be that way to maintain control of a town and keep the order necessary to thrive. This btw is how the Right should behave with the Left. Actually how anyone should behave with the Left.

@@DanneyTanner Interesting you mention a small man. Once on a business trip to NYC in the eighties I was in a large super crowded noisy disco on a Saturday night. Way down the long U shaped bar there was the sound of violently breaking glass immediately followed by a blood curdling scream. Seconds later not far from me a small guy covered in blood splatter tore through the crowd on his way towards an exit. Pretty sure the blood was not his.
