Texas Birding Adventure in Search of Mangrove Warblers!

The Mangrove Warbler is a fascinating subspecies of Yellow Warbler than can only be found in select areas of the United States, and further south. We went on a boat with our friend Justin LeClaire, to see if we could find these unique birds, along with some other cool species found in Texas.

What a great vid, looks like you had the time of your life! I think that's the key to "away" birding: knowing a local birder willing to show you the fun spots

@@BadgerlandBirding The habitat they need is so specific, and with rising sea levels, the tropical mangrove rainforest environment they live in is shrinking. They prefer to feed on mangrove flowers.

Great shots of that warbler. We saw it in Panamá and I could hardly believe it was the same species as the ones we get in Wisconsin. Ive got to get down to Texas some time!

Awe man, you guys are killing me ! I just got done with the birding trip of a lifetime, 3 weeks ago. I’m still working my way through 30K photos, so I don’t have a lifer count yet… But I’m guessing close to 40 ! However, I did spend a day at South Padre and failed to get shots of Mangrove Warbler 😢 Might have glimpsed a female. But for me, it won’t count until I get an 8 out of 10 or better, shot of a male. Also, I did get a Ringed Kingfisher…. But just an ID shot, branches In the way. So I still need him too. I did get a bunch of pretty nice Green Kingfisher though 😉 Great video guys 🙂 TY 👍

Don’t know for sure about Ohio but where we live it’s usually the later part of spring and then the later part of summer when they start making their way back down south. When we were at biggest week we had a number of different species too including the stilts, dunlin, least sandpipers, and Wilson’s phalaropes.

I'm hoping you can help me. I am trying to find out what bird is singing outside my bedroom window. I'm in the midwest. Every morning around 6 am he sings. It's a beautiful song, but he has about 3. And I noticed that song he typically sings early. I can't think of how to type the sound on here. Now later in the day he makes a kinda "Dee Dee D D D D Dee" sound. Thats the best I can do, and I hope it's enough. Please help. I really wanna find this little guy but even when I look for him out my window, I can't see him and it's driving me insane. It just fascinates me that he sings every morning as if he's singing just for me cause its right out my window, and all 3 of his songs have a melody and rhythm. 🥺

So the dee dee is reminiscent of a Black-capped Chickadee but the most common bird singing at 3am would be the American Robin. Check out both and see if one of those fits

@@BadgerlandBirding I think you hit the nail on the head. I looked up some videos on the Black Capped Chickadee and that fast learned it has like 16 different calls and some of them I know for sure I have heard so I think thats it. Thank you so much! This little guy is a SERIOUS Songstress! LOL. He sings like he is showing off. ANd I'm like "Dude, you're the only one in the area that sounds this amazing who are you competing against?" But I am in love with this bird and can't wait to see him! Thanks again.
