I have wanted to collect a few of these more so to make a miniature arcade and put figures in them. It's a little side project I thought about.

@@Emceemur most definitely I look for these little arcade cabinets all the time in yard sales and thrift stores. I have yet to find one. I can't see myself spending that much money on something I'm not really going to be playing more so displaying.

@@bossjohnny1124 I totally get it. But keep looking because you will find them. So far I have found 3 and they cost me $2 or less each. A lot of the old Basic Fun and My Arcade units have been around long enough to make their way to yard sale tables now.

Great review Mur. Not something I would buy but pretty neat to see they are putting effort into these units rather than those old sketchy type things of the past.

Yeah, they're definitely getting higher quality as time goes on. But then you gotta worry they'll price themselves out over time. They're $26 today on the Zon tho so that's pretty sweet.

It looks and sounds great. My main issue other than the price is that they don't make good use of the screen size. They have the main screen virtual on a horizontal screen, and it's so tiny. Thanks for showing this off. If I see this on sale for under $10, I would pick it up mainly as a display piece. I'm very very picky when it comes to tetris.

It's down to $26 today! So there's always a chance. And yeah, I wouldve liked to see how this looked on the 3" screen used on the Galaga unit.

Nice review! Cool little machine but maybe it's me being picky but it feels empty around the screen. I think it would have been cool to have a graphic bezel like the oldest ones you showed. But yes the white aesthetic makes it look clean with the colored buttons. Great video and keep up the good work!

  • @Emceemur

The pics on Amazon actually depict a bezel with the block graphics on it. That's what's strange. Last minute design change? Manufacturing issue? I'm really not certain.

I could use some LRF tech to keep me upright, especially while at work. This is interesting in the fact that it's not simply a port. I actually like that extra touch.

Yeah, another commenter mentioned that too and it's definitely a fair point. The 3" screen on the Galaga unit might've worked better here since it's a vertical game... Thanks for being here for this one!

sadly all these my arcades are not original game code being emulated but are the 8bit console ports. My brother bought me Galaga and its the nintendo version , not arcade version. So I looked into it more and it is obviously the same for all their games, which really does suck.

  • @Emceemur

That has been the case on a lot of these type products in the past. But the Galaga pro player unit I recently reviewed was an arcade version and not the NES one. This Tetris however is a new version made to run on this unit and I won't deny that could be a dealbreaker for some. The NES rom might've been better here in hindsight, ironically enough...

The Galaga unit does not and this is the same setup so I'm afraid this line just doesn't do that. But the more I thought about it, real arcade units don't save them either if they get unplugged so maybe it's just not something they felt they needed to implement? It can be done though, and it would be cooler!

The hold button came about in the later iterations and as an old schooler, it's definitely not something I care about having. As for the "handicap" term, I guess its always had a double meaning as it's used in the context of sports or competition. I suppose there are other words they could've gone with tho.
