Testing Viral Overnight Heatless Curls with Robe Tie! WOW 😳
milabubeautyreview.com/milabu...
This overnight heatless curls method using a bathrobe belt has been all over social media in the past month or two, especially on Tic Toc. I saw this technique from @Laineymariebeauty several months back on Instagram and was so intrigued to see how this overnight heatless curls technique would work on shorter hair. Have you tried this heatless curls or waves method on your hair? How did it work out?

For girls with thick hair who don't get flawless results: our hair isn't meant for heatless styles that include water. Since our hair is thick and being compressed with twists and braids, your hair will take FOREVER to dry and when you think that it's time to un-twist your hair, chances are that it'll still be a bit damp and your hair will get poofy and frizzy once it completely dries after undoing your twists/braids. So from someone with thick hair who has tried SEVERAL heatless methods, I have found that damping your hair with gel does wonder! it keeps your curls in place and your hair won't get poofy or frizzy. I use the Suave max hold sculpting gel 8. it's cheap, non-sticky, fast drying and alcohol-free! btw it doesn't leave your hair feeling crunchy or stiff.. depending on how much you use of course. Really hope this helps someone :)

This is a new twist on what those of us born in the 50’s would do called rag curls. Yes this started during the depression when money was tight. Yes even the finest straightest hair like mine would curl like Shirley temple and last all day. This is how my grandma curled my hair for picture day

This is definitely the best review of this method I’ve seen, especially on short hair. Love that you thought about the back of your head while you were doing it, instead of just curling in the front and then complaining about the back like a few people I’ve seen. Also liked that you didn’t go in with heat but actually fluffed them and made it work without fixing it with heat straight away, I haven’t seen anyone do that but it actually looked so good once you fluffed it out like that and didn’t even need heat! And thank you for the end of day update too.

Hello, everyone!!! I would first like to comment that I was an Irish dancer growing up. So, this is a lot more comfortable, than sleeping in the plastic curlers that I did. And, just so you know, I was not part of the wig phase. We used to curl our hair naturally. I blame Michael Flatley for this... When I first found out that this method existed, just about three months ago, I was so ecstatic. The beautiful thing, about my hair, is that it takes curls amazingly well. I just don't like using a curler. My hair isn't damaged and I want to keep it that way. So, I have shoulder length hair right now and it is pretty fine, and I would suggest, using a bandana. So you don't have to buy a robe to get the rope with it. Only use the bathrobe if you have seriously long hair. And, since I have done this about six times now, at the end of the bandana, there isn't much left. So place the little bit of bandana over your hair, when you twist it, and then put it in a hair tie or scrunchie. I prefer just a hair tie. I don't like the scrunchy feeling. As for product, I sometimes, spray some hairspray, after both buns are made. But, you absolutely have to, damp your hair, to keep it curly all day. I also I have a subscription to Ipsy and I recently got a leave-in conditioner. What I do is spray a small amount in my hand, first, and then scrunch up my hair, and it instantly, becomes frizz-free. So that is something that worked for me. I hope this is helpful and I am so glad, Milabu, you did this!!! You looked beautiful and it just takes a couple of times to figure it out. And, if you do want to do this in the morning, keep it in for at least 5 to 8 hours. Even two hours, my hair is completely curled.

I've been doing this for a while. My hair is medium length, straight and fine. My hair doesn't usually hold a curl for more than an hour, but this wave will stay in my hair for two days. I double the belt for bigger curls/waves and wrap my damp hair around and secure overnight (not the most comfortable). In the morning I get an amazing beachy wave and I love it. 🌊

I tried this last night. I was REALLY REALLY happy with the results. I have a side part, and it was difficult for me to wrap my hair around the robe chord on my deep side, but this was overall the best method for heatless curls overnight. For years i've used pigtail braids, french braids and dutch braids. but my hair was always wavy and messy. This hairstyle works the best on both short and long hair. I've seen a lot of reviews on this method and a lot of girls were very impressed/satisfied with their results. I would definitely recommend using this technique!

This is the only way I’ve done my hair for the past month!! It’s amazing, I’m obsessed, and I’m sticking to it! I have long naturally wavy/frizzy hair and this looks amazing on it! I wash my hair about 2x a week and while it’s still pretty wet (more than damp), I add it’s a 10 serum to my ends and Paul Mitchell thicken up styling liquid to my roots. I do the robe tie twist method a little differently. For my very back sections on both side, I twist the alternating direction at the end. And after tying the ends, I leave the two twists falling straight down. I tried the side bun thingy to keep it out of the way at night and it made my curls deformed. So I sleep with them hanging down like pigtails and find it much more comfortable than tying them up also - I’m a side sleeper as well. In the morning, I take it all out, brush through them with my fingers or brush, apply hairspray as needed, and go on about my day! These curls do settle down to more waves after 3 or so days, but I still love the look on my long hair. And that’s it. I use no heat at all and wash my hair only 2x a week now and it’s grown so much since starting!!

@CaitlynKothe it's almost 2 years since you posted this comment so I don't know if you'll see my reply or answer it but I would love to hear how you do the very back section. I can't envision what you mean --- "For my very back sections on both side, I twist the alternating diredction at the end." Do you mean if you've been twisting all the hair away from your face you start twisting it towards your face? Doesn't mean that some of the hair falls off the belt because you twist your hair foward you are basically undoing what you've been twisting? Thank you for your explanation.

this is what is called rag curls and we used a hair net over our heads when we were done. rag curls can be done individual or like you just did. the hair net was a triangle netting that was tied over the head (like a scarf), I always tied mine in the back so there were no bumps to sleep on. then we graduated to pin curls and I use to dry curl my hair at night, wrap it in the net and the curls would last from washing to washing. then we went to rollers (beer cans). those were awful to sleep on.

Side sleeper? Try this modification that works for me. Once I finish wrapping a side, I don’t just elastic the hair to the belt. Instead, I take a tiny section of the belt right where I’ve ended wrapping that side and fold it up over the very end of the wrapped hair, trapping the tail end of hair inside the little folded up belt section. Then I put an elastic around just that flip fold (so I don’t have to pull the entire length of the robe belt through the elastic.) Don’t do the “bun” thing with the long rope end. Instead, I just tie the two robe belt ends in a very loose knot behind my neck and sleep quite comfortably on my side. Love the results!

And I’m glad you did this hair trick and was honest about it ❤️ I used to do this but with a headband. I’d do a cute style for the day then sleep in it and let it out the next day, it was a two in one for me but I was interested in this one because the belt looks like it adds more volume

Thank you so much. You look very, very pretty. It’s very feminine. I’ve seen a few other KZread videos and they show you how to tie it up at night so that it doesn’t bother you when you sleep.

This is basically rag curls. I have done both and it’s the only way I can get my hair to stay curly. There are better ways to tie it off for more comfortable sleeping. My hair is beyond straight and resembles shiny plastic black wigs. I found applying a little mousse while my hair is damp gives it longer lasting curl and a bit less frizz. I brush it after it’s set and then twist the curls into the size curl clump that I want and I’m usually good for 2-3 days or when my hair gets wet. Heat or steam curling lasts maybe an hour even with product.

I haven't done this style in a while and came to your video for a refresher! my hair length is to my hips. I've tried this method multiple times but my best results were when I used the "Beach Babe Soft Waves Sea Salt Spray" to mist my hair before I start wrapping it, and then really spray it all over once both sides are wrapped and I'm headed to bed! I love doing curls this way, no heat damage and takes me a lot less time💙

I love doing this! I do mine a little different, I go around the crown of my head and meet in the middle back, middle of my head instead of the base of my neck. Then I twist them tight and tie it in a bow in the back. I sleep on the side of my head so this way is the most comfortable for me.

Next you should try to do individual strips for tighter curls! That is how I do it. It takes about 24 strips of old cotton shirt or pillow case(I use pillow case because my hair is long) it also allows me to get the curls all the way to my scalp in the back. It's also much more comfortable for us side sleepers. My hair is naturally pretty wavy so it will hold the tight curls until I wash it again. I do this method on dry hair, though people with less natural wave to their hair could dampen it first.

I tried it this past weekend, and I did the bun thing too! My hair is about 2in longer than yours. However I was wearing it like that while I was doing house chores. I did take a nap and didn't like it for sleeping either so I knew I would do this overnight. The curls did last 3 days, on day 3 it was nice big waves. Funny enough today I'm trying a new method. Instead of the buns I just criss cross the tails in the back and bring the excess robe material to the top of my head and made a cute bow. I took a nap with it and it felt waaay more comfortable. Now I just have to see how the curls are when I take it off. If they are good I will be doing the overnight this way😉

You should try the version this girl named Shonagh Scott did and compare results. I think her version is easier for shoulder length hair because she does a 3 “strand” twist and it helps keep the hair tighter. Her version also gives a better all over head wavy curl. I tried both methods and I prefer the results of her method. This 2 “strand” method like the version Milabu did is not easy to keep tight once you get to the bottom of your hair and for me it was difficult to get the elastic around the ends. This version gives more voluminous curls on the ends of your hair, which are good for ponytail curls. I had to use my smoothing serum to get rid of some of the frizz and poofy volume. The results are good for wearing ponytail hairstyles, but the curls aren’t even all over, so you’d have to go back and fix it if you want to wear it down. Tips for shoulder length and shorter hair : if you have a silk or non-cotton type robe, use that belt instead. It’s a lot easier to use with elastics. Also, I fold my belt in half and used an elastic to hold the side with separated strands together. That way you don’t have anything dangling and it’s easier to manage when twisting.

@milabu Thank you for showing us "Medium" hair length girls that it not only works, but it looks great too. In your video (@ 3:34), you mention that you're "not really understanding how the back of the hair is going to get incorporated?" Your technique and curls look great, and that was what I was looking for. In regards to your question, I had watched another heatless curl video before yours. It's called "HEATLESS CURLS/SHONAGH SCOTT." @shonaghscott uses the robe belt as well, but her technique is different. She includes the back of her hair during the wrapping process around the belt. Again, thank you for your medium length hair video❣️ 👏🏻

I tried this and I have long hair that goes way over my shoulder blades. This method made same kind of curls that you have and also the last bit of hair was little off. I just curled them little bit of heat and they lasted half a day. End of the day this most tight curls were still pretty but loose ones were gone. I kinda like this method to have curls without using that much heat and still get beautiful result perhaps to have curly hairstyle 😊

Hey, that bottle would be great to put a great leave on conditioner. Test around. If any feel dey or over filmy, suggestions are to delute 50/50 ... or .. 75/25 .... infusium use to be great deluted 10/90 during a perm in the bottle. Helping equalize the curls. Sometimes using it in sets or ?..... especially anything air dried may initially feel crispy but once you comb through it, that stiffness disappears to leave soft curls. However if you ever feel a heavy filmy feeling, just add water. You can do that to any leave on conditioner. Everyone's hair is different, mine is very fine, and I felt it was just wavy vs curly. So while in cosmetology school I learned to care for permed hair on myself. After I allowed that perm to eventually grow out, I realized I naturally had curly hair. My mom taught nothing about hair care. She had short thick wavy hair that used snap on rollers. Rarely took time on me let alone talk. That was the 70s, a dif time but school helped. Perms gave me a stronger curl though but using infusium helps 10% vs 90 water. Also, if you have are into natural stuff, try Shae Moisture BABY... vs regular.... they don't use fillers and perfumes that react to skin. Delute with water if any products feel to thick or over used. Especially if you have kids, because they tend to dump handfuls. Anyhow with leave on, you can use leave on then any setting products afterwards, so the conditioner will help care for the medulla and calm the cuticle, preventing color from fading. Then set as normal. If you use the shae MOISTURE BABY, its a way cheaper CREPE ERASE used regularly. WAY CHEAPER Sometimes when I put lotion on after shower or bathing, I'd run my fingers through the longer tips of my hair then to the roots once my fingers feel like the lotion film has been removed mostly. That will be best on very dry ends and remember, its all natural. Everything in the bottle is used in quality conditioners without perfumes. Set as normal..... or ?

I have curly hair, 3b-ish, and this trick works so great to give me uniform, predictable curls I can work with, no fuss. I always use freshly washed hair, 80% dried, with a bit of smoothing cream and plenty of gel to manage frizz. I make the sections smaller and tighter to mimic my natural curl and they definitely fall throughout the day like yours did. My hair is medium length, this is my GO TO heatless curl. Wish I would have learned about it earlier!
