Testing Vevor Thermal Camera Underground - SC240M Review
Ғылым және технология
This one is a product review, but also a bonus Sandland visit! We're checking out the tunnels with a rugged thermal camera from Vevor to see what things look like. It's a great way to find caves by looking for temperature differences, and you can even use it to navigate underground without any other light source!
I mentioned not being able to open the video files created by the camera. Vevor suggested using a program called Handbrake, shown here: • 25 FPS Thermal Camera ...

H264 is a standard compression algorithm. You might try replacing .h264 with .mov or .mp4 in the file name. VLC might be able to play it as is.

Yes, this. Just change the extension to .mp4. It should play correctly after that

can confirm, .mov will play in VLC.

Agreed, for some reason they used the codec name as the extension - weird.
I'm surprised at the file type it records at. Usually you don't need to stream video from a thermal camera. Did you try opening it with our lord and saviour VLC?
Thumbs up for the CAT! 🐈
Now I want one. I had wondered about the utility of the hand held, small screen cameras like this.
Cold cat nose through the IR is very cute.
Looks nice. My only complaint from this vantage point is that the card reader is on top. So if working in the wet/snow the only thing to stop direct rain is the rubber grommet for the SD card. Pity it wasn’t in the bottom…
H264 is just MP4 (in 99% of cases)

Or MKV
Looking at buying one of these for electronics repair and analysis.
You need to containerize that video format into mp4 or mkv. h264 alone ist just the videostream outside a container like mp4.
Looks serviceable. Are you able to send the pics directly from the unit via WIFI or Bluetooth to PC or other hardware/cloud based software? I have the Testo and this comes with an app from remote control, WIFI connection. What are the extension software options for picture applications, ie reporting etc?

I don't think this one has Wifi, there's a memory card slot in the top so you have to pop the card out. I haven't tried hooking it up to a computer, this one seems more designed for rugged field use. I did review a couple USB units that plug into your phone or computer.
H.264 is one of the most common professional video compression algorithms used. Pretty much any professional editing software can read and write it.
You can get an h264 to mp4 file converter. Loads of them online. Nice camera!

No need to convert, it's already a MP4. The filename finishes with .h264.mp4, the true extension is hidden on the device.
Your channel inspired me to enroll in network engineering and computer science. :) I want to hack satellites.

I bet this has the same guts as my Uni-T thermal camera. The button layout e.t.c is identical

I was thinking the same thing. Physically, it's very similar.
H264 is standard for low bit rate compression - most things can actually play this format, a good example would be software such as VLC just by changing the format to .mp4 - another method would be to play this using blu-ray as blu-ray is coded to read H264, even Microsoft Windows Media Player can run H264 files.

I tried changing the file extension, but VLC still refused to play it. I figured it was some obscure Mac thing. I eventually found an online converter that sort of worked, it just stretched out the aspect ratio all weird, so I had to fix that in my editing software.
@JM-Games

@@saveitforparts it's unfortunate that it changes your aspect ratio but glad you have it working 👍
Is there a way to stream output? i.e., Use it like a weird webcam? Also, doesn't VLC play the video? It should. Maybe the extension don't match expectations for the format, you can play with that.
@saveitforparts

VLC wouldn't play it, even when I changed the extension to mp4. I had to run it through an online conversion website and then the aspect ratio was still wrong, but I could distort in my video editor and finally get a useable video.

@@saveitforparts like someone else in the comments mentioned, it was probably a raw file with a common encoding type but that wasn't put in a container like an mp4. If you have a hex editor and compare the difference(before changing aspect ratio) you could probably see the headder that makes it a mp4.. everything else should be the same... But I haven't messed with these kind of things since Windows 3.1
Cool.
I have a Vevor still and hot plate. Both pretty OK and quite cheap.

I’m not cool with offshoring all our industry but it has some benefits also. GM water stills were like $800 30 years ago. The Vevor is the same design for $65. GM is not a company I want to support.

Did this come with an ITAR notice in the packaging?
@saveitforparts

Didn't see one!
@JuniorJunison
Жыл бұрын
ITAR only applies to thermal cameras being exported from the US to other outside countries. It doesn't apply to imported thermal cameras coming into the US. Besides this becomes a mute point if the thermal camera was sourced from within the US because if you're selling it in the US and no where else then ITAR doesn't matter. That's my interpretation of it anyway.

A nice thermal imaging camera, the ideal tool for Bigfoot hunting or ghost hunting. Slowly but surely, all the tools are coming together. I also had the issue with .h264 videos, and I simply renamed the video to .mp4, which allowed me to play it with VLC Player or any other player that supports the mp4 format. It's important to have video evidence in case something paranormal shows up in thermal imaging. Now, all that's left is a ghost box or a portal for communication with the spirit world. Or you can simply use it for regular applications like finding areas where your house is leaking heat. Perhaps videos of a ghost hunt or the hunt for Bigfoot will come after all.
