Testing the Efficiency of Inverters - Xantrex XPower 1500 watt

Ғылым және технология

Skip to the end to see the efficiency curves.
In this video I show how I measure the efficiency of inverters using this Xantrex unit as an example. I have done a similar procedure many times with different inverters, however because it is somewhat 'boring' I have not yet shown how I measure efficiency in previous videos or commented on what efficiency curves generally look like. I dug up this old footage and decided to share it.

I use Powerbright APS300-12 inverters, per your recommendation. I'm interested in knowing whether the differences in efficiency of MSW vs PSW inverters translate into longer battery/source run times/life between them. I use my inverter to drive a Fishman loudbox mini amp and use a 12.8v 40ah lithium iron batter as source. I get 12 to 14hours with the APS300 at the moment. Thx for your videos, I've watched for hours.

I think what youre seeing in your Blue line graph is that the inverter was cold (or room temp) when you started taking stat data. Take the following as an example for discussion: Alternators on car and boat engines dont become efficient until the engine is warmed up and alternator has been running for >4 minutes and warmed up. On start up of a car or boat engine, amps and voltage readings will be much different at engine start up than it will be after running for a few minutes; i.e. they haven't become stabilized yet. NOW....yes a "hot" car or boat engine or a "hot" alternator can hurt your efficency of the DC alternator. But once a engine alternator has been running for ~4 minutes or so and temperatures are stabilized and no longer "cold", your graph would likely become smoother I believe, like you said you were expecting to see. For example, if you ran (2) 100w bulbs for 5 minutes then start over. [OFF]. Then [ON w 100w BULBS], then [ON w 200w BULBS], etc, etc,. In my opinion you'd see a better curve.

he had 9 light bulbs, the 10th data point is when the light bulbs were removed from the load and the heater added which gave us that high and 10th data point, then he added each of the lights back one at a time gathering that data. i wish he would have pursued that drop at data point 2 and the climb at data point 10. i am super curious and would have assumed, at least at first that i did something wrong if it was me. but the video is all here to examine, he seems like he knows how to use a spreadsheet so who knows.

what the best and efficient pure sine inverter ??

I took kill a watt meter and plugged into my modified sine inverter. It said my hz was around 18,20,24 hz. I also have two pyle 1800w line conditioners. I plugged both of them in series ,inverter, conditioners, kill a watt, load. Now I read 60 hz. It took both of the conditioners to get this reading. What would this show on a oscilloscope?

I've never seen the kill a watt read an incorrect frequency with any of the inverters I have tested/owned. I would think that inverter has a serious problem!
