A few weeks ago I stayed at the Berm Peak Ranger station with my mom and brother for the first time since all the upgrades. Not only was it super luxurious and awesome, but it's also super close to some of the best riding out here in Pisgah National Forest.
Naturally, I got out for a ride with Seth and was really stoked to see that he had brought out his brand new custom hardtail for some serious testing on a very not hardtail friendly trail... Daniels Ridge.
First up - house tour
Next up - bike test
Let's go!

Man, that was fun! This was filmed a little while ago and I’ve since added a shim to my cleats, which feels great with my Mallet pedals. I’m really liking them now!

Shimano spd with multi directional cleats are amazing! They have always helped me with unclipping. I havent tried mallets
Seth with a masterclass in saving his ass multiple times in a run. 🤯
I love those crossovers with Seth so much !

Me too! Always great to see the Seth and Alex show. 😉
This vid was the highpoint of the weekend. 'I don't know what just happened but I think it was sick." What a classic line.
“ I don't know what just happen but I think it was sick!” Seth with the extraterrestrial save, still blowing my mind every replay! 🤘
Seth's insane recovery skills on that bike though. Makes me wonder if it's the clipless pedals or the custom frame!

Had to have been the pedals, getting bucked like that could make you lose your footing in a heartbeat, just as fast as that happening.

Pedals helped but it's mostly down to Seth being an exceptional rider. Most of us would be staring at the sky 10 feet off the trail clipless or not.

You and Seth are really good on camera together. It would be awesome if you did another bike packing series.
Seth with the closer got me crying 🤣
The Key’s series was when I first started following STS & SBH, would love to see another bike packing tour series. Alex only wants to do it on a tandem so Seth replaces the tubes and tires ‘before’ taking off 😂

I remember when you guys doing that didn't one of you guys keep getting a flat ?
Something about those clipless pedals going back and forth between saving Seth's ass and screwing him over hits me just right.
The banter between these two is legendary
Seth is even more entertaining in other people's videos than in his own. That looked like an awfully nice ride there.
18:47 I’ve never been sicker
Seth's hardtail is probable the nicest hardtail made

I think we all can agree that we NEED more videos with the both of you! Its always so much fun to watch you two together...
Man this brought me back you guys made such great content together.....
As a MTB novice, I appreciate the commentary you make on the tactics/strategies you are doing as far as line choice or bike handling. Like the comment you made about lifting the tire through water. I know it’s tough to do while you’re riding, but any rides that you do alone, I’d like to hear more of it.
I'm so glad you keep the struggles of the climb in the video. Way too often MTB KZreadrs cut out the climb and all the huffing and puffing.
I love these kinda of videos where its just two great dudes having a ball on a trail. Right on for seth and that bike too!
I’m an old school MTB from the 90s who learned and only ride clipless. When I visited Pisgah I only rode it clipless. Your right that if you do it long enough it becomes subconscious. One time I was going OTB and was able to clip out mid flip, jump off the bike, and land on my feet.
So much fun to see you two out for a ride. My favorite YT videos are still from the collaborations you did together when you were first starting your channels.
Seth is taking the next step in progression with this hardtail . A good to great rider can reach a limit on a full suspension and you have to return to that more raw version of mountain biking . I am a average Joe but I rotate my squish and hardtail and it's so much fun . The hardtail sets up the full suspension ride . It' also keep things interesting and fresh . It's a different ride between the two . Kind of like comparing a wooden roller coaster to a steel rail version . Both are fun and scary in there own way .
Waiting for Uncle Sampler and Becca mtb rides.

YESSSS!!!
I love it when you and Seth get to ride together. Shenanigans always happen! 😂
Man, I would watch the two of you ride together every day. Love it.
The best this about the video is just the casual conversation you guys have.
Wow. I love hardtails, but this is a good example of the difference with a great rider like Seth having that amount of saves. That section of trail with running water looked so cool.
Trick/rhyme for Alex in order to remember Celsius (instead of trying to convert it): 30 is hot 20 is nice 10 is cold 0 is ice
I really love watching videos of you and Seth riding or doing shenanigans together!. LFRH!
Love the energy y'all have riding together!
I honestly really appreciate you keeping in the clips of you and Seth breathing heavy and struggling on climbs.
These crossovers are great. You two really got me into MTB more than just being a guy that rode a MTB on trails occasionally. I’ve built up my last 2 bikes along with some of the skills you demonstrate. Thanks for sharing your ride with us.
Stellar video ! I mean top notch! Best video I’ve seen you put out and I’ve been watching for several years!
Nice video. Great to see Seth on the bike riding again. He's been indoors too much! Amazing how he pulled that out after hitting that rock. Awesome baby!
Daniels Ridge, what a gem! woot woot!
My grandparents told me a way to calculate from celsius to Fahrenheit. Take the celsius number and double it and add 30 and it's within a few degrees up or down of the actual number.
Always super fun riding along with you and Seth bro!! Something adventurous is bound to happen! 😅
Good vibes with buds!! Luv it!
You two make the best videos together
It's been a while since I saw MTB in Singletrack or Berm Peak!! What a pleasure, two friends riding in the forest. Thanks!!
Awesome to see you two ride again! 🤙
Nice riding, and damn Seth hitting that rock and doing that weird indo thing ! 😮crazy
Wow fun trail and ride! Seth almost went done 3 times. Sick hardtail though- I love it, hardtails are so fun. I agree with you Alex full squish on that trail and flats.
Bikepacking the Keys on a tandem. Please, make it happen, guys! 😂
That was such a fun video. I watched the whole thing with a smile.
Man that ride looked epic!! And Seth was being a beast on that hardtail and with clipless pedals? Sheesh!! He's the man!! Thanks for another great video!👍
Those saves rgat Seth made were incredible!!!
Wow and Seth kicks up a big slab of rock and keeps rollin 👍🚵🏻😂
Man that save Seth pulled off was ridiculous. Thought he was going to land shoulder heavy for sure. Wow!
Amazing video, as always!
I wish I'd found you two sooner. Love the positive stoke from both of you 🙌
Please do another biking the keys series!!! It was sooooo good!
Seth was getting extra frisky on that trail! Awesome content! This video kinda reminds me of the older videos from when I discovered your channel around 2019.
With KZread nowdays I have trouble sticking arround a 7 minute video but you kept me entertained for the whole video keep it up!
That was awesome!
Amazing riders skills you and Seth. 🍻
This video has made my afternoon!!!
Living the dream!
this trail reminds me of my local one, you guys killed it!
Ahh yeah! You know it's going to be a great Sunday when there's a fresh Sampler/Seth upload.
It makes me so happy to see you guys get exhausted. That's my default state on rides like that.
So many close calls! With no crashes that just adds to the stoke! A hardtail on Pisgah downhills sounds brutal hah great video man!
Seth living on the edge with the frame going sideways.! Nice bike! Glad you are spending family and friend time Alex. No bike rack on the sedan.
Seth is such a beast, hardtails on hard trails. That trail looked like it would be suited for a 27.5 plus tires for sure!
Wow ! So beautiful there I can’t wait to get out there . About to head over to Pinhoti for the afternoon. Btw Seth nice save when that rock tried to catapult him over the bars .
The secret word with clips is Pledge - furniture polish. Use just a little spritz on the mechanism. I ride in SoCal so I only need to refresh it a couple of times a year. You'll need to use it a lot more often.
First. Thanks for the tour. Cool. Second. Nice to hear some huffing and puffing on the climb. Makes me feel better. Third. Those trails look awesome. Needs some work though. How many trees are across the trails ? Thanks for sharing this with us.
Yo Alex! I always love watching you videos. I’ve been watching for years and enjoys everything you do. Come up and ride the Frederick watershed with me dude. There’s some serious stuff up here I think you would enjoy!
Great interaction. Loved the last one at the gas station, Seth learned nothing 😂😂😂
I feel u on the clips!
In the video it looks like Seth is running Crank Brothers pedals. These can be hard to unclip from with some shoe combinations in my experience. I'd recommend trying a pair of Crank Brothers shoes, they call it the Match System. Works an absolute treat. So easy to unclip, no wearing in period, performs great straight out of the box.
Thank you, nice impressions! Welcome to the metric system :) - The 12k Bike kicks like a mule o.0
Love these ride along videos. Very much reminds me of the early Alex & Seth youtube days, in a good way! And for the life of me I cannot figure out how Seth survived that 18:39 moment lmao
I have that same ledlenser it's really good!
Stay on your bike Seth.
At 23:30 into the video, Seth you almost ate it hard! Your rear wheel hit a rock and that hard tail is so light it almost kicked you up and over. Nice recovery bro... :)
I‘d love to see both of you hit Whistler one day again 🥹
13:29 is me this spring getting back on the bike.
Awesome cool video and awesome epik bike 👍🤘
Hardtails bikes are the best! Fun and agile.
Nice vid. The both of you together make for a very entertaining video. You should do more collabs.
18:12 *seth almost dies* also seth: "that was tricky"
Sick. When I bought my full suspension MTB I went clipless from day 1. You just have to wear them in is my experience. Now when something sketchy happens my foot always comes out to catch me..but in the beginning I was falling over like crazy 🤣
Seth was absolutely getting SENDY on this ride, and he handled getting bucked so damn well, it's mind-blowing. Looks fun! Can't wait to get my first ride out of Florida.

Yeah, look after the front wheel and the back’ll take care of itself. 🤞🏻🤣
Amazing saves seth😱🤣💯 Your bike looked like it wanted to wreck. Glad you didn't!
Kudos to Seth for sticking with clipless. I had a pair of Mallet DH's, because I thought they would be a nice compromise with a big platform to stand on, but would agree with Seth, those pins definitely make it harder to unclip. I ended up with a tib/fib fracture in my ankle from a failure to unclip. Poor technique certainly didn't help, as I was about a week into riding clipless (first ride in DuPont). Now I'm flats for life.
It's so weird seeing Seth from a different point of view than his channel. Love it. Also, you have the most perfect time to start off your video with, "today we're doing something different but kinda the same" and you totally missed it. hahaha
These are the two coolest people on planet earth.
As someone who goes between flats and clipless often, it does take getting used to, but after a while you adjust quickly.
I assume Seth is on SPD clipless, try the SH-56 multi-direction release clips. Set release tension on pedals 2-3 clicks from loosest escape
Seth showing up how much fun hard tails are
Everytime i look at his face i can see jesus vlogging ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Time pedals with the easy cleats 😉
I was getting stuck in platform style clipless pedals and the crank brothers shoes with groves that match the mallet E pins solved it.
@18:38, amazing recovery Seth
"You know what I learned today? ... NOTHING." Classic Seth!
I wanna see Seth's reaction of his close calls LOLOL
Seth is still a beast on 2 wheels even with less saddle time and more dad bod😆 Seth needs some Shimano XT clipless pedals...
love how seth almost ate it a couple times and just kept truckin
