    Been using Koch for last 5 years and I love it, if the paint is in decent order then you can finish with only using Yellow label, just using different grade pad for finish.

    With a random orbit machine, does adding pressure actually perform better cutting? My understanding was that a forced rotation machine will respond to pressure differences, but free spinners should be allowed to spin as freely as possible, because the orbit action is what is doing the cutting. Can you clarify? Thanks for the consistently good content, fellas.

  • @439530

    @439530

    Depends on the machine. Some will bog down when pressure is added. But the good ones will keep up with you. And more heat is generated with pressure so in my experience, the pad will cut quicker.

  • @danlc95

    @danlc95

    3 жыл бұрын

    In a long past AMMO NYC interview with Jason Rose, he mentioned thay forced rotation doesn't like or need heavy pressure. When random orbitals started becoming popular, the pads were huge somewhat softer, and the abrasives available for orbitals didn't get very aggressive. To make up the difference, people started using heavy pressure to make up for it, and it became a bad habit born out necessity. Today form gurus are still recommending this practice - even against the recommendation of product manufacturer! Meguiar's is also advocating lightening up on the pressure. The idea is to get those abrasives moving around the paint so they can do their thing. The orbit is fixed / forced. Even on a free spinning tool, the orbit is always fixed. That is where Rupes says 70% of the correction is coming from. This is also why they have the "anti-spin" shroud. The anti-spin is to get a balanced ratio between orbit and rotation. It also keeps the pad from free spinning when not in contact with the paint. The rotation in the Rupes world helps with keeping the surface cool, and reducing the potential for leaving holograms or recognizable pattern in the finish. For me personally, on a free spinning tool like a Porter Cable 7424xp I like letting the pad spin as much as possible.
