Great review (as always). Currently own the MS4s and a pair of XUs (lurid yellow) (and a pair of Torrents for shorter, faster(?) runs). In all my years of trail running, I don't think I've had a better selection of shoes. 2023 is definitely a great year. I may have to stockpile pairs now as we know that updates aren't always positive! 😆 Keep up the great work.

Concur with everything you said about the Mafate Speed 4’s and I’ve not found the shoe to pinch at the front at all a fantastic trail shoe. I didn’t finish the Arc too so I look forward to your video next week 😂

Great video Lloyd. I'm loving my Mafate Speed 4's. Got them for UTS 50k and Lakeland 50 this year but loving them in my training at the moment. Really is a good mix of cushioning but you still get a bit of ground feel in them unlike a lot of Hoka's

The weather looks so nice there. We completely skipped through spring. We went form -10 temperatures straight to 25 with basically no time in between the two.

Looking forward to your review on Mafate Speed 4 and Speedgoat 5. Surprisingly I found Xodus Ultra feels similar to MF4 underfoot. SG5 feels more nimble but a bit boring when comparing to MF4.

Been looking forward to your arc video even though I get the pain and disappointment. I agree you learn the most from these experiences. I blew myself up 30k into my recent 100k mountain ultra. Whilst I finished in agony it went horribly wrong and was really valuable to learn from. Genuinely interested to learn from what wrong for you, even though obviously wish it wasn’t your experience mate

Excellent work getting the finish. To me those races stand out in my mind more than races that go smoothly. There’s great lessons to be had in suffering.

I can only compare to XU 1, in short: MS4 has much better grip in wet, better foothold, in conclusion better for technical, XU better midsole, more connected, overall more comfortable, better for runnable Ultras. This is of course my personal take...and grip depends on area you live, in my case (southern Germany) the wet grip of XU is average, Vibram of MS4 close to perfection...

Hi mate, great support trail shoe. Used them for months, even last night 16ml great shoe. But sadly the eye lid chain hole laces ripped when tightening up after a few weeks. I made another hole and cracked on as you do. But Love ❤the shoe all the same. Will be using them for the UTS 50 Snowdonia. Al 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️👍

Another great creation! I`d be interested in your opinion on the Mafate Speed 4 vs the Exodus which for me is still the best trail shoe I`ve owned to date. Looking for a new shoe for this years UTS 100k in May, so so tempted to purchase another pair of Xodus ultra as you can get them for a bargain busting £69!...however, I always like to try something new.

This shoe looks fantastic. Sadly I’ll be waiting till they go on discount. As the cost of everything rises I’m definitely pinching penny’s on running shoes in particular.

I wonder if one day all shoes will be made with a toe box that actually models our feet? 🤔 Is it really only Altra and Topo that realise what shape our feet are and that toes spread under load?🤦‍♂️

The uppers of these shoes make them unusable on actual terrain. Incredibly flimsy. Unfortunate as the sole is good.

I haven’t had any problems with the upper on my pair but I have heard of a few issues with the lace eyelets breaking! 😞

​@@Run4Adventure Yeah I caught my toe on a root and the toebox was shredded - point of contact was right at the tip of the shoe. Wasn't moving fast either. That sort of plastic tape structuring they've used just isn't enough to support the upper material.
