Thank you for this video! BUT it's recomended to place smoke detectors at least(!) 50cm away from the wall. In corners there is no moving air. I had my smoke detectors at the wrong place (like you) for 17 years... oops.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

That first few detector in the video doesn't comply with British regs. It probably wouldn't work in real fire conditions because it's placed to close to wall. If you look at how smoke behaves it rolls around corners. The British recommendations say 500mm from any wall. This is due to cold air that pushes smoke away from surfaces. BS5839 if your interested

The first detector's temporal pattern actually sounds similar to the temp 3 code on the old FCI 7200 panels

I used to have these exact BRK 4120B smoke alarms in my house. But in 2013 they went off constantly for like 4 hours straight which it happened multiple times which one of them was in the middle of the night so had to call an electrician to come replace them with Kidde/Firex i4618 hardwired ionization alarms. It turned out to be that the wire plug to the one in my room went bad and it was getting so hot that it made that smoke alarm go off and then the others responded through the interconnecting. It was a nightmare because I couldn’t sleep. Although I kept 6 of the old BRK’s. Although I had a Kidde KN-COPE-IC in my upstairs hallway that looks exactly like that KN-COPE-I in your hallway. But I moved it downstairs the other day to replace one that kept draining batteries even though it was only a couple months old. Now my upstairs hallway has a First alert SC9120B and a 4120B just like the ones in this video since there are two wire boxes and two sets of wires with BRK first alert harness. Originally in that hallway there was a 4120B and a CO5120B which that CO5120B is now In my collection. One of the wire boxes is has interconnect wires and the other one is stand alone. The interconnected one I wired in a brand new first alert harness because the Kidde one was damaged. I’ve replaced a bunch of the other Kidde harnesses with first alert ones because I was afraid those were going to cause false alarms and overheat the alarms. There’s still one old Kidde harness left that I need to replace which I will do at some point. The standalone still has the original wire harness. That one at the very beginning of this seems to have the slowest code three I’ve ever seen. I have no idea what brand or model it is because the only one I’ve seen is this specific one in this video

Can you test a gentex with a smoke can? Gentex goes off automatically if it detects smoke

Rodj no. They usually have a delay on sounding times and some horns usually have a longer or shorter temporal 3 beep.

When you tested the first smoke detector, everything started going insane. LOL

What Do you think was wrong with the Kidde I19010? It wasn’t beeping when the fake smoke hit it.

Hey right here. I'd recommend a first alert alarm with a dual sensor. (Ionization and photoelectric) these alarms respond well to both fast flaming fires and slow smoldering fires. They may. Be more expensive, but it'll pay for itself many times over especially if it saves your life.

1: Get an alarm that will interconnect with the others in your house. 2: There is a reason ionization has not been used in commercial systems for a long time. They don't work well.

These ones are hardwired but they do make some that interconnect wirelessly

I need to get some test smoke. Besides I hope my home's Alarms gets replaced by photo electric models which work better.. Problem is the ionization alarms in the house does not work even when there is smoldering food from the stove. That is a safety hazard.

Derpy FireAlarms I had like 9 of them in my old house and those things were crap. They would false alarm all the time even though wasn't any fire, smoke, steam, etc. My family eventually found out later that a voluntary recall had been issued for them, and we had them replaced in say 2012 or so with Kidde ion detectors. The only time these ever false alarmed was once compared to the tons of times the 4120Bs did. I live in a newer house now that has Kidde FireX ion detectors and one CO smoke combo that's also ionization and is also by Kidde. Lived here for 2 years now, and not a single false alarm. They're all interconnected; even the ones at my old house were.

Google helps. BRK alarms (the ones with two LEDs on each side) are 6120s. The Kidde's are KN-COPE-ICs (assuming they have CO detection as well, most do). The first alarm is unknown to me however.
