Testing: ENGRAVING ADAPTER by Lion Punch Forge & Pepetools

Ойын-сауық

OPEN TO FIND RESOURCES & LINKS! Hi guys! Today I'm going to do a test of a new engraving adapter designed by Chris from @Lion Punch Forge LPF and manufactured by @PepetoolsUSA
It's actually the first time I'm using this tool on a jewellery piece, so my technique isn't good. Let me know in the comments if there are any improvements that I should make - but please be kind and keep in mind that I'm just starting out with this tool :)
After testing this tool using a simple workbench holder, I believe that a necessary tool for proper engraving is an ENGRAVING VISE (ball, stand), that will hold your work correctly. It allows you to move freely while you focus on engraving. A tool, that allows you to set the one, lower speed would also be ideal, a dial speed controller for example.
This adapter was designed to go specifically with the Foredom H.15 hammer hand piece and Foredom motor.
⭐️ You can find the Engraving Adapter and learn about the product on PepetoolS USA website:

This video was made in a collaboration with Pepetools and Lion Punch Forge. I was kindly sent me the Engraving Adapter for my honest review. Sup! Today I'm testing the engraving adapter for the first time on a jewellery piece. Please be easy on me if my technique is wrong or odd - I'm just getting started with this tool! :) I thought it might be interesting to see this different kind of video, where I'm also approaching a tool as a complete newbee. Enjoy watching!

    You should check out some of Steve Lindsay airgravers. He has everything for beginners and master engravers and provides tools to just about everyone around the world. I personally recommend the bench jewel airgraver. It has a foot control pedal that can produce cuts in metal so small, fine, and precise you would need a microscope to see. It would be a great companion for your bench.

    So one tip as a hand engraver my self. It's worth while to properly learn to sharpen your gravers. They don't come presharpened 2heb you buy them from Rio, Stuller, grs, etc... They are only preshaped and not sharp yet. You'll have to learn to properly sharpen your gravers by hand or with a fixture, check out Steve Lindsay's sharpening templates for the best cost effective route, or grs dual angle fixtures for a more expensive option which gives the the capability to sharpen practically any graver. Steve Lindsay's require you to buy the sharpening holder and then you can purchase any sharpening template seperatly. When you cut into the metal it should cut very easily and you'll see a chip or curl of metal rise up as you cut through the metal. Good luck! Check out Sam Alfano's tutorials if you would like to learn more about hand engraving 👍

    Hiya Lady Stardust & Wow! Is there no end to your skill set & level of competence? I know nothing about this but you sure do know. Yet again you have shown that without formal training you have learned a lot about whatever you put your mind to. Very impressive, what will happen when you end up with formal training I wonder? The sky is the limit for you... The way you go at your art is wonderful to watch dear lady. Did you do it well? I've no idea, but from the results, yes. I had the great pleasure of seeing this years 'Goldsmiths' show on line, the only place it can be seen this year. I think you should apply to be exibited, from what I saw your work would fit in well. You should try to see it. An advert came up on YT & I just filled it in, it cost nothing to view but is well worth seeing. Gold & silver vases, rings, you name it & it was there. The very high skill in design & manufacturing was a joy to behold. I don't know what they are looking for in a smith but I think you need to work here regardless of where you came from. I would love to see Luna there next year, or her offspring? Take care & stay safe... Steve x...

    The tip of the graver needs shaping to the users choice, that one looks much too big for the job, you can get them much smaller in square and round section. A fine grinding wheel can be used to get the initial basic shape, and then use a fine carborundum stone to finally sharpen…👍

    that's great Mark! Yes, I absolutely need to sharpen them! :) I'm still not entirely comfortable using this with my foot control for Foredom, the other, bench top control is much better, as it offer settings for one low speed. But I will keep trying with my gear too :)

  • @Mikesukes

    @Mikesukes

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@TheArtOfMetalsmithing I have a old Foredom probably 30+ years old just put a new foot controller on it for this engraving stuff, it is very controllable. Main thing is to have a good grip on the work, like a GRS ball vise. I have seen that you are supposed to keep the engraver stationary and move the work into it. The ball vise is great for scrolls and circles as you turn it with one hand and hold the engraver with the other. A big thing is having a very sharp tool with the correct heel (angle and size) I have the same hand piece as you and the length of it makes it kind of hard to hold . The D model has a flex in the middle that makes it easier to hold. Just takes lots of practice like everything!

  • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing

    @TheArtOfMetalsmithing

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Mikesukes I totally agree that it requires practice. I hope to get better with time :) Isn't the speed too fast though, when you use foot control? It seems that way in my case. When I press it just a little bit, it doesn't start, and if I put just a bit more pressure on it, it suddenly jumps stright to higher speed, so maybe my foot control isn't very precise. And I will definitely need an engraving ball vise, I can see that any engraving like this is extremely hard without one, that's why I haven't been practicing a lot. But I'm hoping to learn more with time. Thanks so much for your tips! :)

    This video was painful in so many ways. Kudos for trying something new . The desire is there but your technique is horrible. You have to hold it @ a much steeper angle plus you need to use a very fine sharpening stone, like a super fine diamond stone to put what's called a heel on that new graver your using. Without a heel the graver will just want to dive deeper & deeper into the metal with no control.it causes you to try and pay the handpiece almost flat like you were doing but it won't work A heel is just a quick rub of the stone along the bottom edge of the face of the graver from underneath. There are hundreds of videos on KZread that show how to put a heel on your graver It's so easy you'll laugh.whenbthe herl is on hold the edge against the metal at an angle of about 45° . This is just an average. You will quickly find the angle that will work for you. Than your off & running. Good luck. Use KZread. Don't get discouraged.
