Testing A Baby's Hearing with an OAE Test

If your cute little newborn requires additional hearing testing, as a parent you might be curious about how their hearing gets tested. In part one of this video (bit.ly/3XnaZIc) we learned all about the auditory brainstem response test or ABR, but there are two other types of hearing tests your pediatric audiologist will use.
1️⃣ Tympanometry test is done to check how well your baby’s middle ear is working. This test helps your pediatric audiologist know if there is fluid behind your baby’s eardrum or other problems with their middle ear.
2️⃣ Otoacoustic Emissions Test (OAE) checks how well your baby’s inner ear works. Soft sounds are played in your baby’s ear and the cells in the cochlea echo the sound back out. The pediatric audiologist then measures these echos.
Ready to dive into the details? Watch this video to learn more about these tests and what parents can expect from the results.
