@@DustyOrchid057 Don't be a landlord or rent out a room if you're going to be cheap. Why should the person who pays rent and utilities not be able to use the AC. Running the ac 24/7 has nothing to do with what the person commented. It sounds like they can't turn the air on at all because of how cheap the landlord is, which is pathetic.

that's because these are Swamp Coolers, and only work well in really dry climates like a desert where they put moister into the air, so majority of people not in a desert would do better with a $3 battery powered fan then these things. @@michaeldavidryandanielpaul1990 well that's cause of the exact reason he mentioned. the Netherlands are fairly humid. there's water alongside a big side o your country, you're like 4 meters or more under sea level. a notable amount of your country has major water issues, even massive floods that took down entire neighbourhoods literally days ago. can't exactly claim to live in a dry enviroment.

Hey James, just wanted to let you know that an IR thermometer like that one doesn't necessarily measure only at the spot where the laser is hitting. It measures in a cone at about 8:1. At 8 inches away, it'll measure the average temperature of a spot about 1 inch in diameter. The laser is more of a guide to help you know where it's pointing. Love your channel!

If you're expecting to be able to measure a temperature difference on the surface of a fan that doesn't have a misting function (like those neck fans), you don't know how they work. They work in two ways: one is by increasing the evaporative cooling power of your own sweat on your skin. The other is to replace air near your skin that has already been heated by your body, increasing the temperature difference to enhance conductive heat transfer. A fan makes you feel cooler without cooling the air.

Discontinued doesn't mean stores aren't selling off the stock that they have. So basically once the store sells all of them they won't be able to get anymore. The recessed area on the pure chill is probably to put extra ice so it can melt into the water reservoir.

This is correct these products are mostly useless where humidity levels are higher they are indeed evap coolers NOT air conditioners and as for cooling off a room forget that there’s not even enough CFM (cubic feet of air) displacement to be anywhere efficient even in dry arid air. Which evap coolers work on whereas an A/C recirculates the air in a closed space and removes heat to lower temperature. As an HVAC Mechanic/tech I have many years of experience of both A/c systems and evaporative cooling Units as they are quite popular in my area. AndI use evap coolers myself. Understanding the process difference is not that hard. Evap systems work on air displacement and rate of evaporation the more humidity the less evaporation. It is complete falsity to advertise these as air conditioners. These small (Tiny) coolers work only if you are sitting directly in front of them and if you keep adding ice they might produce enough cold air for a bit.but only in a small confined space.

The thing with the portable "fans" are they just move air around you in a more focusing and orienting direction. They not only don't cool the temp down but also raise it up since the electric components produce heat upon running. Well, you may feel cooler when you have some sweat and the fan blow air at it but still, not much of a change.

evaporative coolers are great when there's no humidity already in the air, but are just overhyped junk generally.

A few weeks ago I found a box in a cabinet with a neck fan from Sharper Image that I forget all about. As I remember it didn't do much good which must be why I forgot I had it and buried it in a cabinet.

I live in Colorado, depending on the time of year I use all the fan speeds...tho these days our fan's "low" setting is stronger than most of the high settings on our previous fans, sometimes I/we miss being able to have a slight breeze & white noise to sleep by.

And in a heatwave you can end up with brownouts and blackouts from the sudden uptick in demand, too. That's when learning old-school methods that don't require power help out, too.

3:30 True. My brother got a swamp cooler at his work while working on vehicles and it was only barely noticable. Just some slightly cool damp air. Which is still better than just hot wet air. Lol It'll only get worse as the years go on though unfortunately...

Even though your temperature sensor has a laser, it actually works to a cone, the "getting warmer closer to the bottom" is more likely picking up less of the filter and more of the slats.

In places like Vegas where it gets very hot and sometimes the outside air is stagnant, like it gets sometimes. Because sometimes there is literally ZERO wind. Having that fan blowing air against the sweat on your face could make a significant difference if you're stuck with no kind of airflow.

Don't give the casinos any ideas about patio gambling. On the other hand, imagine a slot machine that, when three little fan icons line up, you get a five-minute blast of nice chill air.

The neck one is a life saver for my kids in back seat. It’s hot af and the ac doesn’t work as well as I wish. We also use squirt bottles to mist.

The point of mist coolers is that they reduce the temperature. They are not supposed to make you feel the most or get you wet. So actually you mitt feeling the most and it being a few degrees cooler means it is doing it’s job perfectly.

I really enjoyed my arctic air. I picked it up at a bargain store. I had one on each side of my desk blowing right at me. The swamp cooling effect really did work pretty well. I quit using them after getting our AC replaced in the house. I had the installers go up a size and also make one single duct go directly to my office, of which I sit directly under the vent. It's super chill now! The arctic chill now sits lonely in a box of junk :( Also, I liked the USB connector, as I had them plugged into the back of my monitor's USB ports to power them. No need for a plug.

You should definitely put ice water (with ice) in these units. The heat absorbing capability of ice is MUCH, MUCH higher than water. Also, ice will keep the temp of the water at 32 until the last cube is gone. Ice water takes MUCH, MUCH longer to rise in temp than 32 degree water without ice and for the same reason evaporative cooling works, latent heat.

I bought a cooling towel at Disney when I went to Epcot, and that was far superior to any fan and cooled me down very nicely. So get that if you want something to actually cool you off.

It was all in your head. A cooling towel works by evaporative cooling. Unless you kept it wet with cool water CONSTANTLY, it did absolutely nothing but keep the sun off of your neck
