Tested: Coil spring and damping conversion kit for KTM & Husqvarna WP air forks

The standard WP suspension on the KTM and Husqvarna range can be improved, claims British suspension firm K-Tech. By replacing the air forks with a coil spring conversion and new damper unit, and altering the rear shock with a bladder conversion and new damping system, the bikes can be made simpler to maintain, offer more adjustment and are more plush.
We try out a fully-kitted K-tech KTM 125 two-stroke and a Husqvarna FC450 four-stroke, which also had one of K-Tech progressive linkages. See what our chief tester Dave Willet thought of the system.

Looks like a great setup. The older air forks especially leave a lot to be desired, I think mainly to the characteristics of air itself and how it reacts to being compressed. Western US ridden '18 300 XC here, quite happy with the shock, but did the bladder conversion as the stock piston setup ran hotter than the engine while doing fast in the desert. Recently found a great deal on a used MX-Tech "Lucky" insert spring conversion kit that was valved by Stillwell for a similarly sized "B" rider like me. Waiting for the snow to melt to really test and tune them, but the forks already feel better bashing curbs around my neighborhood 😂
I got my suspension revalved with the Gold Valve system and heavier springs for $550, but it was a few years ago. Totally worth it for my CR500.

I am a fan of air with springs as bump stops.
You can get this from Race tech in USA for about $800 so price needs to come down a little.
