Let's see how Amazon's cheapest precision scale ($7.99 Prime) compares with my A&D FX-120i scale ($750.00). In this video I test this cheap scale for drift, accuracy, and precision. Will it measure up? Watch the video to find out!

Me too. I want to see how the WAOAW compares.I bought one of those WAOAW and Lyman check weights. $16.99 on Amazon. I spot check with weights close to my charge to make sure everything is working. Also had to add 2.8 grains of solder to my cal weight to get the scale to read +/-0.02 grains. 2k for a scale is way outa my league.

I have one just like in the video from Amazon. My results were the same with inconsistency. Plus it was super sensitive to moving air, even my normal breathing would rattle it. Its okay for finding which cartridges don't have powder in them and simple non-critical stuff. I'm not a heavy breather either.

I think it's a perfect $7.99 scale. You got exactly what you expected. I'm more interested in high value for the money scales. I still use a beam balance for most loads. Yes it's slow as dirt but I can see +/- 1 stick of powder resolution. I do however want a decent electronic scale so I weigh water volume on fired brass. That's a pain to do on a beam balance. Problem is identifying the right scale that will really be .1 grain resolution without busting the bank.

I have two of these, for 5 bucks each and found them great for scooping within one grain and trickling in with a Redding balance that will resolve one kernel of R7. Gets me close. The cheap scale rounds up at the .5 grain up and down. Does a great job for getting close to a trickle load. The cheap one does best with a good battery. I used calibrated weights to figure out the average. Works for me the way I use it. It tares and zeros immediately and requires that but takes no time to accomplish. Drift happens. Mine works great with proper battery and the way I use it. I use the power pan at 104 grains for the start of each measure. Using this and a balance I can do a precision charge in under 45 seconds average for 20 rounds.

But my RCBS Chargemaster 1500 has been really tight. Now that I've updated the speed in the SW it's right up with my reloading speed. Just turn it on go grab some coffee and come back before loading.

One thing with the cheep scales that you should be aware of is that they take a while to "settle" the weight. So if you leave the powder pan on the scale until you see a "black dot" (on left hand side I think it was) you will probably get a little better results. Still it is a cheep scale so there will "probably" be some drift. Would be nice to see if leaving the power on the scale until it "settles" will improve the results or not.

I have had great success with the gempro20 and it callibrates and compares very close to beam and higher priced electronics. Also, in the test, can you test how well these scale recognise small incremental changes such happens when you trickle powder charges in. Ie weigh 25gr. For these cheap scales the best thing to do is tare it yourself. Weigh the pan a few times, then write down the tare value and subtract that from the actual measurements. It's more of a pain, but once you get the hang of it it drastically improves repeatability. The problem is that the 0 point is drifting, so doing it manually ensures that you can re-zero the scale after each weight.

The WAOAW would “drift” +/- 0.004 grams for my “zero”....and that inconsistency drove me absolutely bonkers. I’d pick the pan up and put it down multiple times before I’d dump a charge. *CONSISTANCY* matters more than the scales "accuracy" for us handloaders Example: One can perform a ladder charge and record an accuracy node on a certain charge using a particular cheaper scale. Though the A&D scale may show it .1 gr off. It's irrelevant if the other scale can consistently weigh a charge. Many of us use the WAOW scale from Amazon. Try that scale out🤙 great demo This brings of the question? Does 1 granular or .005 gr make a difference in accuracy? I have yet to see actual results. I constantly get replies to get a high end scale. But the folks that use the auto trickler are just dumping charges in the .1gr scale. Sooo I need definite answers in why one should invest on a high end scale?. Does .005 grain or one stick of granules make that much of a difference?

Gavin, I’m a big fan of “most” of your vids, and I sure your high buck scale is far more accurate and consistent then this cheepie. However, it it would have been nice if you would have verified the individual load weights on your expensive scale as many times as you did on the cheepie, just to expose the drift (if any) on your high buck unit. Also, in all fairness to the “cheepie”, you should have aloud the cheepie to settle a second or so longer between re checks.

have one of these cheap scales and had to stop using it because i couldnt trust it, it was inconsistent (would range from 66.5-72.2gr for my powder pan) and had some over charged loads that ended up popping primers in my 308. not worth blowing up my gun or hurting myself or someone else to save some money. ended up getting a redding beam scale from a yard sale for $8 and will never go back to digital for precision loads

Yeah. Hate those cheap scales. However if you would have separated those scales with some distance your results may have been different. The electronics of the big scale probably played havoc with the little one. That little one could not have enough shielding to stop any close or more powerful signals that would interfere with and influence the unit.

Why did you get the 500gram version? They also sell 0.001 scales and they come in ranges 0-100g, 0-200g, 0-500g. And I mean grams not grains. I would have thought the best one to get would be the 0-100g rather than 500g, Also would have gone for the 0.001 rather than 0.01. Lots of them on youtube and only a couple of dollars more. NOt saying they would be better, hell probably just as bad but just saying if i was to pick one that would have been my first choice as the cheapest one to go for. As somebody said below, even if it performed well, it not a good choice for shooting as it is only 0.01g max resolution.

@@youngwong2583 I don't really know but using a 20$ 0.001mg scale is enough to be accurate from 25 to 50mg with 5% off maxium. Calibrate it and try to mesure out exact weights like your currency bills and coins which have standart weight. I noticed an error of -+3% on mine which is acceptable to weight 25+mg of powders. Just put a small weight of couples gramms onto the scale (i use a 4.800g weight and a small bowl of 1.640g) don't tare and add your powder, substract the total weight to your known equippement, you got your dosage pretty right with 3 to 6 % off

its similar to to 1st gen hornady scale. I got one and don't use it much. but you need to wait 8 to 10 second to get each accurate weight. imagine trickling with this scale every time you trickle you need to weight 10 second and if you are not fast enough it will shutdown less than a minute. but that's hornady version this is not even hornady! oh for some reason if you cal the 100gram and switch to grain you need to re zero the scale or you get .4 grain less or more. its ok for loads for hunting max 300 meters 20 rounds a year! RCBS light powder dispenser is the best, lyman light is not bad, but RCBS is the way to go.

@@youngwong2583 I don't know much about archery. It's important to keep the same weight of any kind of projectile that you use for better grouping. It could be even slingshot steel balls. It helps repeatebility and accuracy of your grouping. For accuracy alone you nee to train and choose high-quality projectile and equipment to lunch it. Scale Has nothing to do with accuracy of individual projectile but it helps you for a group of projectiles to group accurately. I would think so.
