Test Your Garden Soil For Free - Acidic or Alkaline

Test your garden soil for free :-
If your plants are not growing well even after applying good fertilizers then you should test your garden soil for free at home. Imbalance pH of soil blocks the ability of plants to absorb nutrients which our plants uptake from the rooting system. this affects our plants and they do not grow well. Generally the pH level of soil is tested by a pH meter but as a small gardener it become hard to buy a pH meter for us.
So in this video we have explained a very simple test by which we can judge that our soil is Acidic or Alkaline.
This process is just a simple way to know our soil's pH Quality. More acidic soil and more alkaline soil both are not good for our plants and plants generally not grow well in both condition. The pH range between 5.5 to 7 are the best pH level for most of the plants.
If soil pH is out of this range then good fertilizers also not help our plant to grow well.
We hope this video will help you to know following answers:-
1) Why your plants not growing well even after application of good fertilizers.
2) What is my soil pH - acidic or alkaline
3) Testing soil pH without a pH Meter and kit
4) What is pH of soil and how it affects the plants growth.
5) Free test of soil pH at home.

I'm in Virginia. My soil has been stuck around a PH of 5.0. I've been adding lime, mixing into the soil and watering. After thirty minutes the level actually went further down. The exact opposite result I was looking for. So, I scooped out a cup of wet soil and tested it again. It was down to 3.9, what I would consider highly acidic. I added some acid granules for Hydrangeas to see what would happen. Within ten minutes the soil went to 7.1. Again, the complete opposite of what should be happening. When adding Lime the PH should rise, with Acid it should drop. This makes no sense and indicates that there is something the government is spraying in the air to contaminate our soil so we cannot grow our own food. As of right now nothing I'm doing will get the soil to the 6.5 I'm always used to.

Hello, Chilly plants grow well in slightly acidic soil. For making soil neutral, we need to actual Ph of soil and if it acidic then we can add wood ash to increase its pH and if soil is alkaline then we can add citric acid to decrease pH. Naturally - if we regular add organic compost and other organic matters regular then it help to keep soil pH moderate for long term. Thank you

Thanks for the video. zi found it when I was searching for. How to adjust the PH of your new garden. I however, already spent money on a Mckenzie soil test kit ( 2 of them). My lawn ( which doesn't grow grass well, has a ph of 7.0 My back garden. Is 8.0 or higher. very very green. Some of my vegetables might not work out. However. i am unsure right now how to add acidity to the soil. Just what to do when its too acidic and under 5 ph. My lawn also has no Nitrogen. Didnt even show any pink. Just grey white on the test. So soil fertilizer will be purchased soon. Thanks so much. Naomi

Dear Ramniwas Yadav jee, Thank you for your kind query. -If soil is more acidic then we can instant control it by adding wood ash in it and it's pH will increase. -If soil is more alkaline then we can decrease it's pH by adding organic matters like compost and slowly it will decrease. For instant result we can mix citric acid with water and pour it on soil and it will decrease soil pH faster. Please use these methods smartly to get good result. Thank you

Vinegar is PH 2. Baking soda is PH 9. Most garden soil is between 5.5 and 7.5. Peat Moss is 4. Manure is 5. Clay is likely near 8. So, the soil you have in your garden is likely to be between 2 and 9, without much question. Thus, both tests SHOULD REACT. In the example shown, his soil is insanely acidic. I'd guess 4 or less. It showed almost no reaction to acid and a huge reaction to base, so it's close to 2 but a long ways from 9. Nothing will grow in that soil, other than maybe blueberries. But, imagine soil made of peat moss and manure. It's going to be PH 4.5, and it will have a huge reaction to baking soda (4.5 away), but also a fair reaction to vinegar (2.5 away). Or, if you PH at 5.5, both would react similarly, and yet your soil is even closer to where you want it. Ideally, most want their soil around 6.5, which is slightly closer to baking soda (2.5) than vinegar (4.5). To me, that would mean that you would want to see a little more reaction to that vinegar than to that baking soda, if your soil is PHed optimally for most crops.
