Susheel, I just replied to the same question to another similar comment. But, here is my reply: Overall, we can say that test strategy is the guidelines for the test plan. Therefore, we need to arrive at it first before creating our test plan. Also, test strategy can be at a higher level of applicability e.g. program level, department, level, organization level, industry level and so on. But, test strategy can also apply just to a project. Test plan applies to a project or program. Test strategy is the high level approach to test. Hi Prashant, how are you? Typically, you would start with the Test Strategy and keep revising it according to what you observe in the actual testing. There are many differences between Test Strategy and Test Plan. Test Strategy is broader in scope and can be used across multiple projects or even across the entire organization. The Test Plan tasks are more detailed than the Test Strategy tasks. Hi Saktivel, here are my opinions: 1 -In order to prevent defect leakage, software testing should be done regularly and as early as possible i.e. from the requirements analysis phase - see my tutorial on Requirements Analysis at kzread.info/dash/bejne/iK5rtrNslaS3mbg.html 2 - During time crunch, impact analysis of the requirement changes may help. We should focus on the high priority and/ or high severity changes first.

Thanks for such an informative session. But, Risk management part is missing. So please cover the same.

In order to generate test scenarios for objects or even machines like toasters, we can start with thinking of basic ideas. Nora D My thoughts are like this. Businesses and human beings are both complex entities. Instead of a performance measurement, perhaps a performance assessment is more fruitful in the long-term. Still, if you have to have a performance measurement, consider basing it on the business goals assigned to the particular project in which the individual plays the role. This is highly specific to the business, the project, the role and the individual so I would not be able to supply specific examples of performance indicators. Thank you for your question.

Suppose you are the test lead for next generation rocket at ISRO? How long do you think project requirement analysis would take? Or would it be a job of the test lead to do requirement analysis??? Same way consider you are the test lead for Intel's next generation chip, or Cisco's next generation switch, or Next Enterprise Storage Array from DellEMC. What you are saying suits only on Computer Application World such as JAVA/Oracle/SAP based applications.

Security is an important system quality attribute. We should start thinking about system security from the requirements gathering and analysis phase. Security Testing (non-functional testing) should be done on the system design and (each) system deployment.

I dont believe Test Environment Management sis the job function of the Test lead. Environment Definition is the job of Architect, Environment Configuration is the job of Configuration Manager (which could be coupled with the Server Admin tasks) and deploying Application to be tested is the job of Release Manager or in collaboration with the Dev team.

Yes, what you say is definitely possible. Especially in big organizations with finely divided roles. In small organizations, the same person generally plays a number of roles.

There's still a role called Test Lead, interviews are still conducted for hiring, viewers still comment that this video helped them prepare for their successful interview, so I would say Yes. Thanks. Also, do you coach for testing professionals for test leads/test managers. My career direction is not a straight one ... I have 11 yrs experience in development (Oracle ERP) as a technical team lead. Then, have a career break of 4 yrs. After that I explored different option in testing side to come back to corporate. Did find one but it was short term project. Any advise on areas to explore and get confident on same. I am looking for getting back to work. :)
