Lovely interview.

This was a really good interview....although Michael bugged me for wks with his write up reviews as his grades for Tessanne just never made any sense and didn't make much sense to Melinda when they did reality check and his reasoning for some of the grades had nothing to do with her singing or performance which added to my WTF reaction......Anyway Tess personality in this really just draws you in and there is no pretense she is just so genuine and open about her feelings hopefully she never loses that, it ensures ppl who are fans remain.

I think I can understand a bit of the trepidation Tessanne was trying to speak to in this interview when it came to song choice. The conflict of trying to be a strategic competitor and pick songs that will grab the audience and make them take notice, while not being cliche or predictable (like throwing in reggae just because she's Jamacian), but also not wanting to misrepresent yourself as an artist to the people who will hopefully continue to support you beyond the show but might not if it feels like a bait and switch (like suppressing her inner rocker chick to sing ballads and pop songs).

Love her album, but I'm so sad her post-voice album isn't what she probably had in mind. I'm almost certain the label told her to go the reggae/ballad/pop route. She could've been killing the charts and sales if she got a rock and soul album.

I used to think that I was the only Jamaican who loved rock music. I have been a fan of Tessanne's for years simply because of that aspect of her performances. She used to sing lead for a group called Mile High and I noticed her then. I have ALWAYS wanted her to succeed to bring that aspect of Jamaican music to the fore, and I have to admit that I supported her more then than I have done recently. She did much, through this competition, to revive reggae and bring it back to international notice to a younger generation, but I really want to hear more rock songs from her. I had wanted to see her do a Heart cover on The Voice and I had REALLY wanted her to cover Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" there. She wasn't allowed to do anything like that, but given how things have turned out for her, I am happy with whatever choices she and her coach made. I really wish her all the best.
