Tessa Virtue on her skating career, taking risks and life after the Olympics
Canadian ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skated together for 22 years and during that time they became the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history.
In this episode, Tessa reflects on her biggest turning point; deciding to come back to compete in 2016 after a two year break. Tessa and Scott would change coaches, move to Montreal and two years later go on to win the gold medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. In this episode, Tessa says these last years of her amateur career were the first time she truly loved skating.
We also discuss her decision to choose skating over ballet when she was just 9-years-old, some tough times in her career when she experienced major injuries and low self-esteem, how she and Scott kept their partnership strong (including going to marriage counselling!) and what she’s up to now.

@@PriyaSam Thank you for the podcast. . She is that exactly. That is why people love her.
LOVE THIS!! Appreciation for the amount of background research the interviewer had bc other interviewers don't even research their interviewee and this felt so different because it wasn't the same sort of topics being talked over and over again or the same repetitive interviews I have seen. AHHHHH Can't get enough of this! Thank you!

Another fantastic episode. These chats are such a refreshing hour in my week. I loved how Tessa talked about how the negative internal dialogue is common and it's so important to be kind to ourselves. Thanks Priya!

It's kind of offensive when ppl get upset that they arent romantically and sexually involved, there are some relationships that transcend those things. A relationship thats infinitely more special, powerful and strong. Honestly a sexual, physical relationship would tarnish it, not enhance it. There's a very unique love 99.9% of us will never experience that they have thats so much deeper... yall let them live lol let them love who they want, when they want, how they want. Dont shame them for not being with eachother. That's most definitely not going to make them get together haha if anything its going to pull them apart and push them away from eachother. Let em be.

Now i know why Scott and Tessa exude the "married couple aura". They had a lot of marriage counseling through the years and i think that is what they followed so they were able to get through thick or thin. Obviously Tessa and Scott loved each other and they had friendship and trust as the core foundation of their relationship. I'm just sad they decided to get engaged to other people after all those years of being together.
Love love love love ❤💘💗💕
