Just picked up my Model Y this week and your video was exactly what I was looking for. Learned something I didn't know I needed to know as well (me and my wife both walking towards the car and having priority device setting). Thank you for putting this video together! Look forward to watching other videos on your channel.

We just got our Model 3 a few weeks ago and I was expecting the profile to automatically associate itself with the phone keys. Now I know there's an extra little button press to make this happen. Thanks so much!

Well, THANK YOU!!!!! That’s exactly how I feel when I’m making them! I’m like, is this stupid? Does everyone know this already? But then I remember there was a point where I didn’t know it either, so if I can help just one person.. then it’s worth my effort. Maybe I should work on my titles? To let people know it’s not as basic as they think? Idk. Also, every time I teach y’all something, y’all teach me right back in the comments! That’s why I love this community so much!!!!!!!! And my car too! Every time we think we know it all, or get bored.. bam! Here’s something new and amazing! Right?! Thank you so much for this comment, it is a huge compliment. 💚 YOU are awesome 🤩

Thank you!!!! The missing piece for me was clicking on the icon with the profile of my wife selected. She would unlock the door and it would go to my profile and then she would select her profile. That was really bad because it's her car. I swear I read the manual multiple times. But your video made it crystal clear.

Sara, thank you for taking the time to explain this crucial piece! I have just followed your directions (almost) to set up my wife's iPhone. Very educational and practical advice! The "almost" part is due to the Tesla app sending a text message invite (if one chooses a text message delivery method within the Tesla app of the primary driver). Once my wife has clicked on the invitation link in her Text Messages, and installed the Tesla app she was prompted to create a username and set up a password. Having successfully logged into the Tesla app using the newly created username the iPhone was fully functional and was able to open the Tesla seemingly without needing the keycard. With this out of the way I followed your instructions :)

Oh good!!!!! So I found that when I walk up with both phones in my hand, it leaves the seat and profile in whatever profile was pulled up the last time you excited the car. I’ll have experiment more with that particular circumstance but I’m glad that if it’s in my profile and me and my husband both walk up it does not switch to his profile. It just keeps it in mine. So if you had been driving the car for example and then you wife wants to drive, let he approach the car first a little ahead you by like 15 feet then it should actually change the seat and profile to hers. I hope this makes sense and still helps. Let me know!

  • @SaraJAwesome

    @SaraJAwesome

    2 жыл бұрын

Yes, actually I have an autopilot video that I worked really hard on for almost a year. And it is still the only issues I have found with autopilot. Nothing more nothing less, so by watching it and learning how the car is thinking maybe he can be More aware of what types of situations cause ghost braking. Also, ghost braking has gotten much better over time like SIGNIFICANTLY better than when I made the video. And then more you drive it and just keep your foot on the accelerator and push the accelerator when you have ghost braking the car supposedly will learn from that situation and eventually stop reacting that way there. But you should watch the video first and make sure it will be helpful to him and not scare him more. I need to make an updated one. But all the information would be exactly the same, maybe just less dramatic since I’m more used to the car now. Let me know what you think. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5Z41atmZ8fTYrw.html

I think they are like $25 on the Tesla website. But I can’t remember. That way if a phone dies or disconnects they can still use the car. Or there’s another trick where if someone gets locked out, another one of y’all can go into your app and hit start and that will give the person a couple minutes to get in and drive away with no key even if they are in another state away from you.

Hi Sara. Great video. Have you tried setting Easy Entry in Driver Profiles? I set the Easy Entry profile to pull the steering wheel closer to the dash, raise it, and put the driver seat way back. I'm average size but it sure makes a big difference getting into and out of the car. You can select to use Easy Entry for any profile so we use it in both our profiles. To get to it just click on the current profile near the top of the screen and then click on settings to add it to a driver profile. Using Easy Entry that way makes sure the seat is always back far enough so I don't rip my knees off getting into the car if my wife was the last one to use it. Shorter drivers may not want the seat too far back so they can still comfortably reaching the brake pedal to tell the car to use the driver profile (based on the phone or key card it sees.) I'll have to experiment without setting Easy Entry in our profiles it to see if the seat then adjusts itself to the correct profile when walking up to the car. Your method might be better if multiple drivers are vastly different in size. Teslas have so many features. Thank you for explaining so many of them. I hate reading manuals but have no problem watching YT channels. Not everything is in the owner's manual. LOL. This is from the online owner's manual: When the Easy Entry setting is associated with a driver's profile, the steering wheel and driver's seat automatically adjust when in Park and the driver's seat belt is unbuckled, allowing an easy exit from Model Y. When returning to the vehicle and stepping on the brake pedal, settings automatically adjust back to the settings used by the most recent driver profile (or based on the key if it's linked to a driver profile). To use Easy Entry with a driver profile, ensure the Use Easy Entry box is checked.

They can’t do that because they have to login to your Tesla account with your user name and password. They can connect their Bluetooth but they can’t control the car, only connect their music and maybe messages by Bluetooth. But they have to have the app and login into your account it be able to lock and unlock the car and drive off. You can also just look at your profiles and your phones that are connected and forget them if they try to create a profile or connect a phone. Also you can put a PIN number to start the car and change it if needed. So you’re covered;) no worries

Thank you!!!! Thank you so so much! Yeah, that’s weird about you needing to push the brake to stop it on exit? Are you saying when you put the car in park and unbuckle your seat belt it starts moving the seat forward to a shorter position? Is that because y’all share a profile or because you have easy exit box checked? What is happening? Definitely set up y’all’s own profiles and your own key cards. Set yours to priority. And you can either just not use the easy entry and I check the box by your profile, or you actually configure easy entry so it doesn’t squish you. Let me know.

@@SaraJAwesome Easy Access checked Sara! It zips the seat back when we get out, so next one to get in it’s easy. The seat then sets itself to the profile set on the screen last, when you hit the pedal. This am me and her indoors (the British version of ‘my wife and I’ !) went through the steps you shared and we now have the perfect entry set up. Had my Model 3 for 6 weeks now and it is the best car I have ever owned. I love the tech and I am so glad I found your channel to tell me the stuff I didn’t even think of searching for! But also it’s says on there what kind of phone it is under the name of the phone, and that I don’t think you can change, then next to that | is the name of the driver profile. It’s kind of hard to explain on here with txt. Hello Sara! Thank you so much for this very helpful video about keys and phone keys. I have a question related to the front of the Tesla Model 3, it's about the light inside the Frunk. Do you know if it goes off after you close the hood? Do you know how long it takes before it turns off? I put my iPhone in the frunk to take a video to see when the light times out, but even after over 6 minutes, the light still remains on. I appreciate very much any info you may have on this light. I'd like to know so that I can decide if I need to contact Tesla to correct this or not because I don't want the battery to drain due to this light staying on all the time. Thank you!

Such a great job, as always. Your step by step instructions are always so logical and simple to follow (it's almost as if you had been a tech writer putting owner's manuals together). It's not easy to put tutorials together that anticipate what needs to be seen, demonstrate the screens, how to get to them, what to press, and just enough of what can be done wrong to make the user comfortable with not getting it right away. You're a natural. I'm the only one that drives my car, but having driver profiles and recognizable keycards/connected phones is a relationship saver. I've shared cars before and seat position was always a hot button. So, yes, you've (and Tesla) definitely saved relationships. I'm going to check that I've done all the things you suggested (while my partner doesn't drive the Tesla, yet, her phone is connected so the doors unlock if she beats me back to the car or something). Hair didn't look bad at all, in fact like the braid. Hope your weather doesn't get crazy like last year. Be well.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! 😃 I think that reason I explain things well is I typically learn them on camera and then redo them immediately if or when I screw up, then I cut out the part where I screwed up or was learning. It makes editing harder because the raw video is lengthy, BUT it allows me to explain the exact things that were confusing to me. That way I can immediately point out what mistakes other people will probably make or answer questions they have before they even ask them. Does that make sense? I used to leave the mistakes in sometimes but then people get confused and also get bored with longer videos. So now I started only keeping in he specific correct way to do it so that they don’t accidentally remember the wrong way. I appreciate your 2 cents as always!!!! It’s not supposed to be too bad here, so yay! No busted pipes for anyone hopefully! Stay warm and have a great week!

My wife thinks I’m crazy to want a car that has so many flaws. Every time there is a recall or some negative FUD about Tesla, I hear about it. So, will user profiles save my marriage? No, but I hope the car arrives flawless and has no service issues for at least a year. And, I’m really glad you love your Tesla so much. It’s not weird, right? Haha! You poor thing! It’s okay to be in love with it! I’ve had mine for over a year and I’m still obsessed and know next to nothing about it. I just teach y’all as I learn. Even with all the flaws my car has had, I wouldn’t never pick another car over this one ever! And when I bought mine I had faith in TESLA at all. I was scared and skeptical. But here I am, in love, living the dream. And I kind of love all it’s flaws because nothing is perfect, and I chose to support TESLA and take a chance when it was still not quite up to par yet. And that makes me and my car and it’s flaws feel special and important. And honestly.. I looked at tons of 2020 cars all gas before buying my Tesla and tons of them had flaws too! And they were brand new never driven. So it’s not that other manufacturers don’t have flaws.. it’s that they don’t get obsessed over, noticed, and spread all over the internet.. I will say even though my car had some issues, I haven’t had any for quite a while now. So yay! Just need to get my windshield fixed is all. And as for my husband.. he hates my car. 😂 probably because I raced him 3 times in his Subaru WRX STI and I beat him every time.. with the SLOWEST TESLA! Shifting takes time.. my TESLA doesn’t waste any! But then he went behind my back and reserved a Cybertruck 😂 But he still hates my car. Not sure why, he said he just loves knobs and buttons. And I personally hate them because they’re hard to clean. So I think that’s all. And he likes loud cars . 🤷‍♀️ It’s okay that she’s not in love. As long as you love it, and it doesn’t ruin your marriage;) 😂 sometimes I just stand at the front door and stare at my car.. I thought I was crazy but apparently other TESLA owners do the same thing. Like a baby in a crib… awwwwwwww 😆 I’m hoping to save enough money to get my windshield fixed, windows tinted and then do a wrap MYSELF! I already have some paint chips that I have to fix so I’m like why not just TRY to wrap it?! It can’t be THAT hard right?! I already know what color I want just not where to buy it.. see I’m rambling. It’s okay, we’re your support group .. and we’re hear to listen to your obsession. 😛

Do you have any experience pairing a wireless game controller? I wanted to use one and long story short I cant figure out how to get it successfully paired. Maybe the Nintendo controller doesn't pair with Tesla games? What controller do we need for Teslas games? It doesn't mention what is and isn't compatible, does it? Just wondering.

I’m not familiar with a wireless one for Tesla. I have a generic off brand PlayStation controller that plugs into the USB port and it works fine;) so I think it may need to have a chord with usb plug, or maybe a usb stick that connects wirelessly to the controller. If that’s a thing.. idk. Sorry this is all I know. :/

Sara, if you make your Profile the priority, won't your husband have trouble getting into the driver's seat when he needs to drive the car? I thought that was the reason for setting the profile to the phone keys to avoid this issue. It sounds like it's a fix at the beginning of your video and then you undo the fix at the end by syncing it to your key as a default. If a husband and wife do this, don't you end up back at square one with the taller person getting squeezed out? I'm confused.

I can’t remember exactly unless I rewatch my video, but you’re probably correct. But this is my car, so he only drives it like once a year. He has his own Tesla. So I want this car to always detect my phone over his phone and set my seat for me. Now if was his car then his phone would be the primary phone key so if we got in together with our phones it would detect his phone first. Not mine.

I know there will be times that I want to pull the car out of the garage for whatever, and I know that when that does happen, the phone and my wallet will be laying on a table, in the house. I'm guessing the fob gets paired with the key card pretty much in the same way as the phone does. Also, I have to assume the son you mentioned, is your step-son. I’ve had my Tesla a week and we can’t get the seats to automatically move when either one of us approaches the vehicle. Our keys and phones are assigned to our profile. Will seats only move if you unlock the doors? We have car set to not auto lock at home, so if the other person goes to drive the car parked in our garage, the door is already unlocked. My husband is 6’4” and I’m 5’1” and he literally cannot enter the vehicle if seats are set for me, so this is quite the issue! This can happen if you accidentally turn off your Bluetooth from your phone maybe. I’m not sure it has happened to me too but only a few times. Make sure you never close the Tesla app in your background of your phone, keep Bluetooth on, and if you ever don’t have your keycard and it asks for it.. try going into to your Tesla app and hitting the start button. This will give you 2-3 minutes to get in your car and put it in drive and drive away even without the keycard and it asking for one. Also do a hard reboot like I showed in my video. Go into the car screen and hit power off and leave the car off for 4 minutes and then turn it back on with the brake. Also make sure all your settings in your app allowed for Bluetooth and your Tesla app etc. Let me know if this helps. Sorry for typos I’m landing in a plane right now.. getting off.

Is it OK to give my Kia EV Soul 2016 (also white on white) to my wife instead? The Kia does have cooled seats which the TM3 2022 does not have (!!!). So, when is it OK to say, hey this is my car, I do not even want to share it? Tough question... ...maybe if my girlfriend (maybe future wife) really likes the Tesla, just get one for her and sell the KIA (?).... I don’t personally like or use easy entry. That doesn’t mean it’s not good for other people. It’s just not good for me. But basically if you have it set to that, when you put the car in park (I think) or maybe start to open the door it will move your seat and the steering wheel to a generic optimal position for someone to easily get out of the car. It’s not that helpful for me because it’s actually very similar to my personal seat setting, the only thing that is a big change from my setting is it raises the steering wheel higher I guess so your legs can move out from under the wheel easier. For me it also raises the seat a little in easy entry mode. Some people love it. It’s just not for me personally. I know this isn’t the best explanation but I’m not that educated on it since I don’t use it. 😬

I made it to sit way back and down and wheel all the way in and up. It is very useful for me as I prefer to drive with sit forward and wheel close to me. It is very inconvenient to get in and out with such configuration. Also, with easy entry enabled it doesn’t matter who drove the car last as it always will be in that easy entry position. BTW all moves in and out easy entry position when driver buckles and unbuckles. You can put car in park to let passengers in and out without moving your chair, which makes sense. Only if you unbuckling, car knows that you want to get out.

Don't you have to step on the brake before the profile activates? That is what I found. Also, if you check "easy entry" on your profile and set the seat and wheel to a position that allows you to enter/leave the car, that will activate when you unhook your seatbelt. So if one person's seat if close up, the next person can get in as easy entry will move the seat back when the person takes off their seat belt.

Good post but this isn't entirely accurate. Ppl need to realise that there are three parts to this - keys, profiles and bluetooth devices. Per the guidance in the video - you can specify which profiles relates to a specific key. Important to note that keys have nothing to do with paired bluetooth devices - this is because keys work off NFC and RFID connections. If it's a key card then it's RFID. If it's a phone key, then it's NFC. The "Priority Device" setting on the other hand relates to paired bluetooth connections - this is why it's under bluetooth settings. The Priority Device setting tells your car which specific bluetooth device takes precedence for calls, messages, contacts, and audio, when there are multiple paired bluetooth devices in the car at the same time, and it applies to any and all profiles associated with that car. It isn't telling your car which key is priority. My wife and I both have our own separate profiles and phone keys defined for my M3, and my phone is the priority device. Most of the time it's OK and there are no problems when only one "key holder" uses the car but when we both approach the car together the car will pick the first phone key it detects, based on proximity and strength of the NFC signal, it will then pick the relevant profile associated with that phone key. This means it could still pick my wife's phone key and profile, irrespective of the fact my phone is the "priority device". But it will use my phone instead of my wife's phone for calls, messages, and audio, because it is the "priority device". I hope that helps people get their head around why they still have a problem, with multiple keys, profiles and devices, despite following the instructions.
