Look into the inner workings of the Stirling motor... Then contemplate what happens when you make radiators with coolant, and then contemplate what happens when you "decompress" heated coolant using a compressor on the opposite end of what you'd expect one to be. A heat gathering device of epic proportions? Surely there's got to be a key where hyper efficient pressure mediums can siphon heat and pressure differences in a super compact way.

Call the new printer R2-Eta, because that is what you need to 'improve' that Tesla Turbine. The coefficients of determination to efficiency for whatever your salient parametrics might be. (Hopefully not curious turbulent inlets driven by handheld shop-air nozzle with large inconsistent velocity vectors & profiles.) How about some parametrics related to the boundary-layers on the rotor disk:pack surfaces. Possibly controlling and measuring the inlet & exhsust pressures (and temperatures if getting high power extraction), will add some further independent variables to the efficiency map. Where it's most efficient, may be far from where it's producing a high output. The magic is to optimize power and efficiency. Uniform flows across the width of the disk pack as well as the effective Reynolds No. from OD to ID. Is another head scratcher. Hey, here is a thought, why not just power the TTT, measure the power and speed, and the now dependent inlet and outlet flows and pressures. Explore its performance. Gee, wondering if disk surfaces are better with Tesla valves instead of just simple spaces? (... so don't be an Isaac (fig) Newton barber and cut me out if it twerks :),

I like how real you are about the process. Some of the creator experimenter youtubers cut out their mistakes and imperfections as if that’s not an important part of the learning process- or they’ll make everything in their 50 thousand dollar shops with equipment we don’t have access to. Like, I got a 3d printer but I don’t have room for a bandsaw or machining equipment in my studio apartment lol

by showing the mistakes u did, it really encourage me a lot. as a student of engineering department, i am afraid of making mistakes while doing my personal projects. and this thought has bothered me for a long time.. but, after noticing that even u, a far more experienced and skilled master compared with me, may also make some funny mistakes and even dare to admit it to your audience, it really boosts my courage and encourages me on designing my own models as well as trying to print it out without any useless worries. thanks a lot ~~

I seem to recall a video elsewhere on KZread where a Tesla Turbine was run at sufficient speed that the centrifugal force of the airflow reached an equilibrium with the exhaust vortex, resulting in a steep RPM increase and higher efficiency. The speed was 50,000 RPMs, after that it jumped to 70-80k and seemed to smooth out. Might be worth testing...

Hello Integza, i have seen a ton of your videos and i watch a lot of other science youtubers. Yours are special because you are not scared to try crazy ideas and show more failures and mistakes. I think this is very important to young and curious people who have been discouraged because they havent seen others make mistakes like these, keep trying, and eventually see their work pay off and get that huge reward from their brain. They may sometimes only see or hear their colleagues succeed and it can be discouraging as sometimes they may feel as if they are not capable of understanding high level engineering or math the same way their friends or colleagues can. When i was younger I had a bad view of the world due to this and people like you awoke my child-like curiousity once again, thank you for all the work you do for all these videos.

Here's my suggestions: On the interior of the turbine - Decrease surface tension by smoothing interior with hi grit sandpaper, fine rosin polishing and then cotton buffing. On the disks apply same process. You can also coat disks with a 3M product called "NeverWet" this creates a nanocoating that nothing sticks, and a micro-level (not nano) coat that the surface is smooth as can be. Without having thousands of dollars of equiptment, such as using steel and precision grinding. Yes I too am an inventor.

I love how he made the air fight against its own Conservation of Angular momentum by putting the air inlet at the point furthest from the spinning circles and the outlet right at the center, so the spinning air that wants so badly to go outwards cannot, it has to exit at the center, so it just coils and coils and coils and coils, 100,000 rpm later it can finally exit the center lol. Why not stagger the holes on each disc so when they are assembled they make a helical path through the discs for the exhaust. If you do this I think you can take advantage of some of the surface area inside the walls of the holes and introduce turbulence that could increase friction between the discs.

Second thought: What if you use some more (maybe shorter) valves in paralell to each other and thereby reducing resistance? For the problem of UV-curing the material inside of the valve: Option 1: Print two halves and glue them together using the same method as you use for making the engine barrel. Option 2: Cast with metall using lost PLA method.

This is not an issue because Tesla turbines don’t need to be spun crazy fast like everyone erroneously claims. You just have to to know how to design it correctly. Every fluid, gasses and liquids, can be made to flow in highly efficient low Reynolds’s numbers laminar flow regimes.

Thanks for demonstration. The Diameter of the Disks could be the main drawback in my opinion. Disk diameter of 18 to 24 inch may show a radically different result in terms of power output for the same PSI of air input. Also varying the Thickness of the washers placed between the disks could have an impact.

the updated housing reminds me of turbos on vehicles both the intake and exhaust side and they use curved turbine blades in them. if you can try a smaller inlet and smaller area around the turbine, so the turbine is in more contact with the air for more power.

Reading Tesla’s books you can find to combat the need for a high torque on the generator he designed a high frequency high voltage alternator. So till you build the alternator the turbine is useless. Also try having high pressure water flow though the turbine not air you might get different results.

Looking back at this video, I think the new casing might not be the problem, but the convergent divergent nozzle, since it has to be perfectly sized to actually work, if your air flow doesn’t reach Mach 1 at the critical cross-section or your air won’t be accelerated to super sonic speed but instead slow down again

Since you asked for ideas, the first thing I would try to increase the efficiency of this design is dimpling the disks to increase their interaction with the fluid. But you might be better off trying to increase the efficiency of the actual power generation at low torques, or of increasing the generator's torque. Electromagnetic power generators lose a lot of their efficiency at low torque, so even if the turbine is more efficient, the overall power generation probably wouldn't be. I think that's also one of the obstacles to low head distance hydropower

If i understood well the differences in the new design and the normal design that you made, the former has a "de laval" nozzle (i. e. Convergent divergent nozzle) mounted in the better tesla design. I'll say that the main reason why you lose all those RPMs isn't the tesla design but that you used that nozzle. I want to give you some tips(if i'm right about the first design) , i think the problem with that turbine started in the moment you sad "with all the theory out of the way". First of all that nozzle is efficient only if you reach supersonic speed otherwise is useless. At subsonic speed the divergent part will slow the fluid(that is probably why you lose all those RPMs). You don't want turbines to work with supersonic velocities, and almost certainly that design is not meant to work with supersonic speeds. So i suggest you to try the new tesla design with the the normal nozzle, and if you want to compare the results the entry surfaces of the casings MUST be the same. If this isn't the cases than it is only strange that the better tesla design failed.

I think that tath could be a good idea. But i can sugest also to remove the central part of the discs, just to have a good comparison. I would also sugest to sandpaper the discs and use fins along it to direct the flow and not make it collide in the center. These fins can also be not paralel to the flow to make like an ibrid whit the conventional turbine and maibe get a higher torque output. These fins can also replace the spacers and help you to keep the discs stable also when they are a bit flexible because they are distributed around the surface, not only at the center. I think you have to reduce the whidt to increase the air speed in the inlet and increase, not too much, the diameter of the turbine to increase the leverage. In conclusion, to increase the performance the discs thickness is less important than the tickness of the space between them Hope that someone read this (hope also my english was good)

3:59 The picture shows several discs. In reality, several discs REQUIRE several nozzles, but the picture (even Tesla's) shows one. Boundary-layer flow is laminar flow tangential to each INDIVIDUAL disk. I have built these and ONE nozzle servicing TWO discs side by each gives the same torque as ONE nozzle serving multiple discs together on the same shaft. I use a solar steam generator and a Pelton wheel turbine to make electricity. Far and away easier to build using a stainless steel spur gear as a Pelton wheel! I've toyed with this stuff as a hobby for nearly 60 years.
