Yes, do a video on the next imminent revolution in car design. Might it be something like Cybertruck where have just a solid car body with no frame and fewer traditional sorts of parts moving away from traditional designs like Ford and Dodge for example? What scares me most is the unaffordable rising cost of living in a maturing system of capitalism going rotten only becoming unstable and uncertain.

Thank you! I am 71 and I get it. Robo travel and Robots change everthing, wipe the board clean. Life will nerver be the same. You are the first person to realize that the factory will be built arround the bot. I have listened to robotic experts say that in a factory the bot would go charge while the humans take breaks! Every work station can charge thru the floor. They will never take breaks, sensors will send it to maintanance when needed, quick change out tools may replace a hand to instal fasterers. A three wheeled bot is faster and can spin in place they have no need to go up and down stairs in a plant, hospital, school, office building. Order the Robo taxi that meets the individuals needs, van for the mom. pickup to go to Lowes. A two hour trip you can relax and sleep or work because your connected. Choose our entertainment, take your on line course, prepare for the meeting arriving refreshed and ready. My grand father went from horse power to space travel. We will go from hands on to autonomous. Ford and Edison and Tesla were my heros, Elon is all three in one. What is your dream?

We are entering a new age and most people are completely oblivious to it and will one day wake up and realize the entire world has changed in the way we work, travel, and interact. I think the pace of robotic automation will be slower than expected because humans are pace limited by our own human experiences. We really don't have the ability to think too far outside the box. We think about 5 years into the future, that's about the limit. However I think we will get to the robot factory at 5 year jumps.

Ants do every task they need---food gathering and processing, sometimes farming and ranching, construction, defense, nursing eggs and larvae, and reproduction, with only four or five models per colony. They have optimized for mass ant production and efficiency.

The volume of a factory could be reduced by at least 50%. Who says that a humanoid robot only has to be the size of a modern human. Why couldn’t they be half the size of a human. Bees, ants and other insects operate and live at a much higher density than humans.

They also dont need legs per se merely a base with treads and maybe an hydraulic lift system. How often will the robot really move off of the floor it works on.

They also don’t need hands per se. they could have sockets with interchangeable tools for the specific job they are doing. A hand “tool” could be one of them.

@@davidelliott5843 but if you get to the point where costs are so low they're virtually only material cost replacing a "modual" of a car rather than stripping to repair a fault becomes the norm. This may of course appear ridiculous given the majority of people can't afford a new car (currently), but when automation REALLY takes over, and as Elon says, there will have to be a univerrsal payment system for all.

Production efficiency is definitely going to increase significantly. You also made solid points about speech communication vs. robotic communication. It wouldn't make much sense for humanoids to communicate with each other via speech as that is not as efficient. Thanks for the video, Connecting the Dots! Video on car design would be interesting, I imagine Integrating things such as what Tesla has done to design castings like a river so the aluminum can flow easier and use a smaller press than normal on the cybertruck.

I LOVED that part. before moving to software and other fields, I'm originally an Aerospace engineer, majored in manufacturing and structures but worked in fluid dynamics. Seeing what they did with that casting was mindblowing, just mindblowing.

What I appreciated about it is it shows their dedication to optimize every element possible, and make iterative improvements, yet their not afraid to throw out something when progress slows and a better way exists, fsd v11 took a lot of work but they completely started over on v12 and now have a much better product.

To avoid the Parkinson’s and peripheral neuropathy gait - humanoid bots need load sensors in the legs and joints along with AI processing. That will give smoother operation and therefore faster walking and motion in general.

one of the most truly meaningful things those robots could be used are following two that comes to my mind when i think of it intuitivly and what just comes to my mind: 1.: For Mars Colonization 2.: For Usage in catastrophic event/emergency scenarios (could save lifes, prevent things, "solve" different kind of emergency situations, ...) - paticularly i have to think of climate change ... i think this could really be relevant!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the humanoid front but I think they should focus on the dog model, which is so much faster & more balanced for many tasks.

Tools without batteries (powered from hands) is a great thought. Once that happens, we might also so human gloves with the same plugs (and a battery backpack for the human) to allow us to adapt to using some of those new tools.

If humans are not needed for production operation, then all the OSHA safety spaces can be eliminated. And special service work and such that the robots cannot do can be performed with tele-operated robots. There will be no need for any human to physically enter the factory.

@@vincewestin I suppose you’re right. If a remote controlled robot is not nimble enough to fix another robot, at least it could retrieve the downed or failed robot and bring it to an area outside the factory where humans could work on it.

Exactly! At first the robots will be made to fit the existing factory. Soon the factory will be made and designed for the robots. Humans will no longer be able to step in at that point.

There's a possible limit on the amount car design can change because of robotics. Cars need to be repairable. At the moment, mechanics are humans. Assembly is a well defined task compared to repair. I think it will take a lot longer to replace mechanics with bots compared to assembly line workers.

Internal combustion engine vehicles will likely continue to need repair by humans. But they will eventually be replaced by electric cars and trucks. And EV’s are considerably less complex, require less parts and software enables human mechanics to diagnose issues in the car. Automobiles will become even more modular in the future, making it more likely that robots will in fact replace many human mechanics.

Most repairs are not that different from manufacturing. AI is already good at diagnosing problems, so robots only need to disassemble and reassemble the car. And at some point it could make sense to just recycle the car instead of repairing. We won't have to drive them until they fall apart, because cost won't be an issue. Like how 100 years ago clothes had to be patched endlessly, but today we throw them out on the first sign of wear and tear, or even just because they are out of fashion.

This isn't just about manufacturing; as how we indicate and design technology is undergoing a transformation; from computer simulated prototyping to a variety of new manufacturing processes, things are about to dramatically change. Once we begin moving humanity off into space colonies, production of new materials made in zero and varying gravities will occur, enabling us to create materials we can't create on earth.

Good stuff. I'd be curious of the social impact of robots taking over work. How will governments change.

Well done. I'm surprised - since Tesla started and showed humanoid robots and videos - how many different developers/manufacturers show up. It's fine when you concentrate on the vehicle industry. Personally I need to look back: (1) What Bill Joy wrote more than 20 years ago. (2) Also there was a video: no need to apply. Humans not needed. Seeing what will be possible in one, in three and in five years (now it's not that long anymore it accelerates tremendously) how should a state look like? What and how many citizens are needed? How to educate children? How to care for the elderly? Public safety but also freedom for the native citizens and the ones who bring skills and want to integrate? How can expenses (taxes) and state employment be limited or reduced?

Imagine the benefits of having a child sized robot factory worker.

The plasma forming which I suggested in an earlier comment, will not have nuts and bolts or seams, but will be one piece objects that can’t fail.

Your comment on tools for robots is already here. CNC robots. Have tool changers to allow new tools to be used. Robots will have tool changers to allow new tooling.

Another way to provide wireless energy to tools, motors, robots, cars, phones, etc. as by sound waves. On a frequency above 35,000 Hz nothing can be destroyed by these strong sonic frequencies. Sound canned which no one can hear can produce the sound waves and piezoelectric wafers can be pressed 35,000× per second to produce enormous amounts of power with no batteries or fuel on board the portable tool or vehicle whichever.

After there are no humans in the factory, robots do not need to be humanoid. So humanoid robots are a temporary occurrence?

I think that there is room for a lot of non-humanoid robots able to perform human tasks better than humanoid robots. But, for the beginning, we have to use humanoid robots.

Custom robots are very possible. It seems likely that the future will be several versions of generalized robots rather than building lots of custom designs. Robots can pick up tools or drive forklifts or otherwise augment their base design for occasional tasks. And yes, we should expect that the automation of vehicles will mean all the new forklifts will have their own intelligence built in.

I would think that although in factories humanoids will be much less, we will still want humanoids in all of the homes and most businesses and entertainment. So humanoid robots will never go away.

A moving assembly line won't go away. Assembled cars and modules need to leave the line, so having one location makes it easier. In addition, this allows robots to generally be stationary. This allows them to be tethered for power (and data), and therefore no downtime for charging. One part of the production line that implements things this way is the paint line. A moving line, all work is done by robots (in an unsafe atmosphere), and humans supervising from outside.. I imagine something like this extended to other lines.

Future body metals and other materials could have integral color, molecularly diffused or bonded into the surface. Regular paint will be obsolete except for temporary applications. Eventually, colored bodies could be 3D printed over finished chassis at high speed, moving about as fast as robot paint sprayers would.

I challenge even the unit sales projections, to recover the massive cost of research and development. Fiction versus reality guys, what would the robot market really look like. As is true of flying cars and integration of drones into various commercial markets is filled with expense, knowing how to use them effectively and regulatory ambiguity and regulation.

We are entering the technology singularity; which will be a tech revolution that far out scales any such revolutions of the past.

So when will we see it in real life walking around?

You are good at predictions… Let’s see if you can visualize what I’m about to suggest… Plasma forming of the type of manufacturing that absolutely will be implemented in the near future… Element heated to a plasma are magnetic. It would take a pretty huge sphere and electromagnets, but computers that can direct electro, magnetic lines into geometry is that are 3D can, and will shape the plasma of different elements, and the microwave will be turned off, and the cloud of elements will collapse into solid matter instantly and form cars, or any object instantly, by the hundreds thousands or even millions. Nano robotics can be formed this way. The earlier thinking of the factory as an organism seems like a likely evolution. To begin with economies of scale dictate that all the robots will be identical humanoids to be most versatile while scaling up but as the manufacturing of the robots themselves becomes more iterative the evolution through virtual simulations will further improve specialisation, possibly modular or easily disassembled and at different scales and moving away from the humanoid form that was the starting point because of the need to fit into previously human lead processes. The alien dreadnaught could end up consisting of something more like an octopus on legs or some other form that we can't yet imagine. Humans have a hard time multitasking but a single octoboid could simultaneously perform all the steps needed to manufacture a car or other robot. I can see robots becoming increasingly organic, agile and swarm like. Eric Drexler predicted that nanotech bots may come about by iteration of bots creating ever smaller versions of themselves as they approach electrostatic and then quantum limits. Being able to assemble and disassemble precisely at the molecular level is the ultimate goal.

The concepts of robots communicating wirelessly and being able to work without a direct line of sight as long as there is a camera on the object they can access is intriguing but have neural net trained robots done such interpersonal… sorry, interrobotal (?) collaboration? I’ve heard of projects where robots collaborate and even create their own “language” but these were pre-LLM style prototypes from years ago; possibly using one of the also-ran methods of attempting AI like Darwinian software. It’s easy for us to get caught up in terms like “hive minds” and “living organism” factories and lose track of the fact that the hard work of designing such things has not been accomplished yet and we may envision situations where one bot learning something means every bot learns it but unless they are all being run by a single centralized AI which would make them vulnerable to communication disruption, there is no guarantee that this would be the case for bots in the immediate future. Science fiction has coloured a lot of how we view robots without giving us the technical specs for creating their visions.

Maybe someday cars will have deont aears that can turn to face the rear seats.

All this improved production ends employment. But these are physical production. Already I see office spaces being more show ponies than efficient work spaces because most office work can be done online and soon by AI. So no one is earning so who is paying. Society needs to be employed. Otherwise it’s just a gathering without purpose.

With robots having the ability to do most jobs Cars and transportation itself would be drastically reduced without the need for people to get back and forth to work.. in fact the same goes for 💰 money or the need for each person or household to own the same household items like tools ECT... With the possibility of having shared property thereby eliminating the redundancy of everyone owning the same property making it available for use by all the occupants of a building, housing development, or entire neighborhood. Like lawn mowers ECT .. 😅🎉

Once humans are not working in a factory there is no reason to have humanoid robots. I imagine it would be more like a complex machine inside with each moving part optimized for a specific class of tasks. If you are not limited by human strength or dexterity, parts could be heavier and larger than a human could handle. It may be that in the same way the game Go was changed by AI introducing moves undreamt of by humans, it is possible that AI will come up with super efficient factory configurations that are inconceivable to humans .

In Nova Scotia, there’s a town Nictaux.

Cars have to be maintained and repaired. Making parts accessible only to robots will make maintenance extremely difficult or extremely expensive. The car should be human maintainable even if not built by humans.

You are missing one thing: When robots replaces humans, there would be no need for cars or at least significantly reduced demand. There is no work to go to, and robots will deliver grocery to you. You'd only need cars for leisure and visiting relatives.

Someone helped me connect the dots here. Every video I have seen of a humanoid robot doing something with their hands seems painstakingly slow. Even if they can do it for 24 hours, they’re doing it 10 times slower than a human. Is there a video showing an autonomous humanoid robot operating at speed?

Humanoid robots need not have human limitations. Fingers could be replaced by something like octopus tentacles. A head is unnecessary eye cameras could be in the shoulders and even have a telescoping post that can lift them up several meters for seeing ar a distance. Or even a small drone that can fly away for an aerial view. Feet are very awkward and slow, Wheels have limitations. But Bladerunner feet may give extrodinary speed and agility. Wireless charging would allow a robot to charge without plugging in. And wireless computer links could allow super compute power without onboard weight, The robot being essentially just a terminal, with only essential compute power onboard.

​@@jeremytaylor3532Rollerskates, then, doable with robots' superior balance, will do stairs. Or the system that revolves two sets of wheels orbiting each other and climbing w/o losing contact with one or the other. That gives two-wheel speed and minimal turning radius on flats and slopes plus very efficient stair climbing.

Movement is waste in production. Why is there such a hangup about having robots that move on feet and having articulated limbs. I see factories in the future having mag-lev floors (magnetic levitating) with robots being able to move between stations if required. I see transformers with interchanegeable parts. I see special bots whos job is to remove defective bots off the assembly/manufacturing floor to reassembly repair stations off the work lines. Hive minds will allow the whole processes to be synchronised to each other. Mag lev will allow assembly process to be designed three dimensionally. Main point is i think being obssessed with humanoid robots is a marketing rabbit hole which traps actual practical design for manufacturing /assembly in the inefficient human paradigm. We should adopt the mindset of machines building machines which should be, a first principle of factory robots. I really question the need for all robots to be swiss army style, able to do anything : modular yes.

If they can make a car every five seconds, that’s 20 million cars with the current number of factories that they have now (including Mexico). No more gigafactories needed.

For a few years I;ve been saying that once they have a factory in each region, the only reasons for additional factories are either logistics or external (politics). Technically, no reason why current factories (as you said Mexico included) won't handle 20m

@@ConnectingODots 20 million cars in 5 factories means 20 000 tons of raw material and parts delivered each day to each factory! Logistics will be interesting to watch

@@pascalg.8772Most parts could be made by feeder factories directly on the gigafactory perimeter. And of course, the best part is no part. Like ICs, cars will be largely integrated from monopart modules like Tesla's octovalve (now decavalve?)
