@@daffidavit The starlink dishes they are sending out to get internet consume 100 watts of power. You aren't putting that in a phone. For high speed data in a phone you need under a 1 Watt. Two orders of magnitude difference. The satellite and starlink connection is real, the idea you could carry around the transceiver and power supply for it in your pocket is simply tech fantasy. Sure you could probably make a limited rate voice/text fallback that fits into form factor (64kbits/sec at best) , but that's not what is being promised in the marketing material (starlink internet (high speed date) on a phone) And even this would require a retrofit of the existing satellite constellation, and is a market niche already served by existing consetllations.

There are some serious issues I worry about. The lights from the satellites could disorient insects who depend on the stars to navigate, killing them. The space junk could obstruct Elon's own space ambitions. I just don't see this ending well.

To get all that connection is going to require hundreds of thousands of those starlink satelites, if there are losses due to failures or collision replaceing those satellites into the correct place in orbit will be no easy job. Just saying this isn't going to be easy promise to fulfill.

I have been a user of iPhones since the very first one and have stayed with them for many reasons. Elon Musk’s concept of creating a new phone combined with all of the extras like Starlink makes me consider leaving apple and going with his phone. If he can create a phone that is at least as good as the iPhone I will be happy to spend my money on it. The possibility that this new phone could work no matter where I am on earth without switching carriers or changing sim cards etc will make it the best phone in the world without question. Basically I would prefer my money go to Musk rather than any of those twits currently in charge of the other companies. As a side note I would love to see Musk create companies that would compete with amazon, apple, and Microsoft. Also, I think Musk would be smart to collaborate with Mercedes in Europe. Instead of trying to compete with European auto makers he should join forces with at least one of them. This would help keep costs down by using their existing facilities. Also it would make it easier for europeans to choose his cars, phones and whatever else he has in the making. By creating jobs in those European countries he would help their economies as well. He could also team up with a company in the U.K. to make things. Over a billion people drive on the left and the U.K. makes a lot of those vehicles. He could also build a facility in Australia to make things for the Asian market. Again creating jobs there and boosting their economy. He could very easily become a global player with facilities all over the planet and would be wise to create his own shipping company. That would ensure that his products would be delivered no matter what the shipping industry does. Elon is a visionary and doesn’t do things just to get richer. He is the first and only person that I believe deserves to have more than a million dollars lol I wish him the best and I would definitely volunteer to go to Mars and help humanity become a multi-planetary species.

Tesla is just in the beginning, the technology will advance farther than anyone expected and Musk knows that the more pieces he puts on the board the better. Most of the companies are focused on money and to make huge profits, Elon is focused on creating a better alternative for all of us and the profit is applied to create more projects or push the ones that are already in motion even further. Just the fact that he decided to set the goal to go to Mars is hands down, most billionaires and governments just want to maintain the status quo, he went above and beyond.

raspberry pi is designed to be as cheap as possible, they're good for running one application 24/7, like a security camera or a thermometer. they would be useless for the way we use phones today, running 10+ apps in parallel and driving a nearly 4k 120hz screen. it would be about powerful enough to call / text or open an internet browser but that's about it.

Am sure my entire life I will never use an iPhone....but with this Tesla phone damn I can't wait....I know it will be full of modern features and on the high end unlike iPhone...for now android all the way and in particular Xaomi brand

Finally, I live in the mountains in Colorado. No cell service. I'll buy one immediately.

I for one am thrilled to see a new competitor in this area of communication.

I don't think so. Apple has an army of strategists and engineers and they will probably adapt to the market and competition. I would however bet that Elon could eat them for breakfast if it really was his goal, but it isn't.

@@aa3aan unlikely. Apple doesn’t have 11,000 telecommunication satellites in space. Elon does. He control the price and gives everyone globally internet anywhere at the fastest speeds, then he we own the market and fast.

For some of these old company's they should change their name and logo and that might help

I hate Apple!

I had a dream 15 years ago that cars became solar powered and auto pilot completely. Looks like my dream is starting to come true starting with smart phones being solar powered.

Hell yeah I will buy a Tesla Pi phone!

Apple? Who? So yesterday, so narrow in scope, so over-priced. The world needs a Musk phone. Keep disrupting, Elon!

Apple products are arguably overpriced, but my 2012 MacBook is still going strong and is still updated by Apple. It been the least costly computer I have ever owned.

Buy Pi, bye bye iphone. Is it fair to say Elon Musk is the Man of the 21st Century... I think so.

@@arnaldurrobertsson6899 yeah, but for tesla he didn't create it cuz someone else already did, but he gave a lot of investment because he thought it's good, then he became CEO (he didn't want to but had no choice) So yes for one company, instead of creating, you could say he entirely revolutionized it. So whoever he collabs with, he revolutionizes it

the note 3 was the best phone ever produced. easily change batteries, glass and screen. i had a battery that could run on a single charge for six days with bluetooth and wifi on 24 hours a day and being used 12 hours a day. i used it for 6 years until it wouldn't work properly with the internet. all they have to do copy is the formula. abilty to use third party batteries and very simple replacing of screen and glass. boom best phone in existence.

I was a Elon Musk haters because too much exposure... Then i saw the videos of drag race with tesla models vs most of the fastest cars in the world.. And i recognized that he's a Tony Starks who can succeed on his project... So maybe the phone should be able to do amazing things...

After years of using smart phones, and seeing tech over-reach, I'm ready to go back to a 3410.

I have a tiny little nokia phone that is probably 20 something years old, it still works, I just need to unlock it and put a SIM card in it, the battery seems like it last forever, even in a drawer.

I like the ideia, even if the phone that they will launch does not beat the other brands, but it will certainly change the industry of mobile phones as tesla did on cars, space x on Space rocket. We welcome whatever phone they will bring.

Putting all my money, diamonds and gold into Tesla. BUY BUY BUY

Smartphone market is a tough one. Trying to get a pice of it starting from ground up not gonna be easy but I’m eager to see how it works out for Tesla. I just hope they develop their own OS instead going for Android like everybody else.

iOS and Android have tens of thousands of apps to choose from. Getting app support to that level would be nearly impossible. I'm curious to see what approach is taken to overcome that? Imagine trying to create a compatibility layer to run apps from either platform. What a nightmare that would be.

I’d switch from Apple to a Tesla phone in a heart beat if it ever happens. An I’ve been with Apple since there first phone. To have global coverage with Tesla star link would be a game changer.

Hope Tesla does bring an awesome phone to market. I am tired of getting my ISO upgrades forcing my iPhone obsolete expecting me to pay $1000 every 2-3 years for a new phone.

Goes back to a documentary I seen about that dude that was moving rocks with his black box the old guy that built a spiril stair case and just disappeared strange but very interesting not to mention the fact he is Russian heritage as well tanka or thanks

I'm definitely looking forward to see what comes of this, and I hope the project is successful. The part that really has my interest peaked is the Starlink compatibility. I've always thought it would be hugely beneficial if Starlink offers smaller packages to make it easier to use their internet while traveling, and baking it into a phone would be a huge step.

@@lijath I'm honestly 100% on board with you. I'd be interested to see if anything happened, but I doubt Tesla would want to get into that market. I'd think it'd be more likely for them to add some sort of Starlink chip to other smart phone makers like Apple or Samsung, if they did that at all.

@@mikeandersonwa if you look at the current starlink receiver it's more close to a satellite dish than a chip. If the current starlink is already Wi-Fi capable then why wouldn't you just use the chip that's already built into every single phone that exist currently. I don't think it would make sense to even develop the technology into a chip.

I am thrilled and admire the ingenuity of Elon! I wish him success all the way. Way to go ….Elon!

that sounds like a nightmare, companies shouldnt be this closed source. If we are paying for something worth that kind of money we should be able to fix it ourselves or by someone we see fit.

@@TapiaJ ......does a geneticist know the physics behind launching a rocket? Do they know how a know how the stock market works? Do they understand economics? They can but then only thing then should be expected to know is genetics, same with a computer technician. You also don't seem to understand IQ well, but I will simplify. The first thing that the high tech company needs to think about before launch a new product is not the price, not the capabilities, not the market but how not to let China copies the product.
