wow! it's like you read my mind! Got my MYLR on Friday and the first thing to annoy me was the number plate - not only is it "flappy" but it wasn't even aligned properly. Thanks for the video, very useful!

Very useful thank you. I collect my model 3 tomorrow and I’ve always disliked the bulk of their number plates. I was going to completely remove them but after watching this I think it’s a good idea to leave the back bit particularly the front one as it has that rounded mould in it. Thank you! Cheers Jon

Much better that Rory - I did the same with my Model 3. I did find however that during the very hot summer we had last year (40 degrees, you might recall,) the bow in the front plate eventually caused the front plate to begin to come loose as the glue melted. I was able to re-mount it, but lost a little confidence in it staying put as the blistering heat continued, so I drilled the front plate and put screws through aligned with the holes which mount the back mount onto the car. Appropriately coloured plastic caps cover the screw heads, so still much neater than the Tesla 'original' and the screws hold the bow in the front plate perfectly. The rear plate has stayed put without any problem, but being flatter you would expect that.

The issue with number plates being legal, other than lettering size and spacing, is that the supplier needs to have their details on the plate. I see some small print on your plates so assume that is the suppliers details. Looks good to me!

Hi Rory, I too have removed the ugly Tesla plate holder, and stuck the number plate straight into the bodywork at the rear, on the front I have completely removed the holder and purchased a self adhesive number plate, which is adhered straight onto the bodywork , both of these number plates are completely legal, as they are the correct colour, and are reflective as they should be

What happens if/when you need to remove the plate? Is there not a chance of damaging the paint?

@@farazqureshi1614 Hi Faraz, as far as Iam aware, the self adhesive number plates are made of vinyl, exactly the same material as used when wrapping a car, therefore they shouldn’t damage the paint when removed. I think the company selling these plates would be in serious trouble if it damaged the paintwork .

You already have a small stain on the rear luggage compartment! May I kindly recommend the Tesla OEM cover . It’s expensive, but works well. Best wishes.

Brilliant solution. Out of interest did changing to a private registration cause you any agro with the Tesla app etc? I am about to change mine over for one I have on retention but didn’t know if it messes with anything Tesla software based.

No, not at all as everything is VIN based for that reason with all brands.

It is always wise to make a note of the original registration number in case support or someone doesn’t recognise the cherished number
