    Guys usually love your views but this one was odd.. How many times do you adjust your steering wheel? Once. Just once, so really not a big deal. You can also use voice command. And as far as the one pedal driving is concerned.. Every single review I've ever heard loves the Tesla one pedal driving.. You need to give it some time to adjust to using it.

    Tesla's engine/battery tech is still top of the pile even though other manufacturers have had years to catch up. Not so their interiors. especially the nonsensical decision to eliminate almost all buttons. Use voice control you say. Maybe if it works but what about if you or your passengers are having a conversation? Tell them to shut up so you can voice control a function which should have a button or switch. Unfortunately the madness seems contagious. VW Mark 8...

    It feels like reviewers (especially of the older generation (sorry!)) love to use the “how do you set the steering wheel” as a massive hindrance. But yet fail to mention that owners can set up *multiple* profiles with various positions. So in effect it makes adjusting the positions even EASIER. If these two reviews had set their own profiles from the beginning, they would literally be just two clicks away from their own perfect driving positions every time they swapped seats. This to me is dishonest reviewing and quite infuriating. Matt Watson also makes a song and dance about this every single time.

    "Dishonest and infuriating". Right. Bit of an exaggeration? Most modern cars offer custom seat, wheel and mirror positioning - that's not the issue. What if you want to tweak your position mid-drive? Also, what's actually wrong with a button? It is objectively faster and easier (but it's also more expensive to make - which explains why it's not there in the Model Y).

  • @TJTVI

    @TJTVI

    @@olly1oo6 They are car reviewers and I expect them to know about setting the positions to a Profile. If they did not know that and they say so then I’ll stand corrected. Otherwise, my statement that they’re dishonest (knowing but no admitting) is accurate. And because I believe they are being dishonest, that infuriates me. So an “exaggeration” it is not. And you can EASILY tweak the position mid drive. You can use the voice command to bring up the controls and adjust with a simple button scroll. Arguably that’s safer than reaching forward to pull a lever, then have to try and carry and adjust the weight of the steering column while driving So lesson is, reviewers should know better and not revert to low denomination reviewing (“oh look, i’m looking for how to adjust the steering column but found myself pushing the fart button”) or just simply set your driving position before driving.

    Hardly worth the title of 'Test'. My guess is that 2 septuagenarians out for a first drive would probably have done as well. On all my cars, I set the steering once, maybe play with it a few times (at most) and leave it there. As mentioned below, you can have multiple driver profiles that automatically adjust things for you, which removes the most common reason for adjusting in the first place. Just like my '96 Aurora V8 then, but without the step of having to press the driver profile button every time I got in the car. Quite obviously the testers are not technology-aware (most phones and tablets are far more complex than the Tesla interface), and good luck easily finding any one of the dozens of buttons / levers on some modern high-end vehicles. Maybe someone should tell them about the voice command interface that bypass having to use the screen? It's not as if voice recognition is not used by several major brands to interface with the system, so I would expect that these 2 posers would have at least some idea...

    First, Norway has been massively subsidising EV purchases for years now, often meaning that despite still having a 30% higher sticker price, with the subsidy applied, EV's are often cheaper to buy than ICE cars, which is why they've been so popular. In the UK, the already paltry subsidy has recently been cut, so EV's are still *on average* 20-30% more expensive. Go figure. Next, £55k for a 'family' car - I don't think so, certainly not for the vast majority anyway.

    As a disabled driver (wheelchair user with multiple sclerosis) I frequently need to adjust my right foot position on the pedal and, with restricted fine motor control of my foot, it's not easy to do without actually lifting my foot off the pedal and coasting for a second or so. Bear in mind this is not an issue even in my most recent car - an early (2005) Aston Martin DB9! However obligatory regenerative braking WHENEVER I need to do this will make smooth driving that much harder in many EVs!! I would only ever be able to consider an EV with adjustable regen' braking, or one that you can turn off altogether!! The same thing may also apply when normal drivers do things like cough or sneeze. Lift-off coasting HAS to be an alternative to always applying the brakes - it can even risk collisions when the car in front brakes for no obvious reason.... and NO, other drivers don't always leave enough space and aren't always paying enough attention. So that's no answer!

  • @cybertrk

    Soon you won't need to touch any inputs and you'll be driven around autonomously. Also, your worry about people rear-ending you has nothing to do with regen since regen will put on brake lights. Literally 1 min after driving an ev with regen you never run into a "brake for no reason" situation as you've proposed.

    We’ve got a Model 3 and a Mini SE on order. Not because of the buttons or the regen, but because it’s smaller and more fun. The regen in the standard Mini setting is very similar to the Tesla though - which I like. It’s much more of a faff to move the steering wheel in the Mini, as the Tesla automatically adjusts it between my settings and my wife’s when we get in. I’ll have to fiddle with the manual controls on the mini each time to get everything in the right place. Both excellent - and complementary - cars though in my opinion.
