Nice build. It would be really helpful if Tesla would add some ac outlets so we don't have to lug around extra power packs.

NICE. You put a lot of time into editing the video. One thing I did with my Model S is install a 3000W inverter (pure sine wave) in the frunk. I used to have a square wave inverter, but it toasted one of my electronic devices. My Model S comes with a 12V lead acid battery, and the car can provide 2500W at 12V from the DC-to-DC converter.

Thanks Keith! I’ve thought about using the 12V onboard battery but didn’t want to risk voiding the vehicle warranty after I read about the possibility online.
My suggestion is to create a cooking system similar to Rivian camp kitchen that can be hidden in the rear compartment of both model 3 and model Y that can be folded and stretch out when at use 👍👍.

Ive got that Bluetti power bank, solid devices. As good as the induction stove is, I feel like the propane stove works better to control the temperature at times. I tried to cook chicken on it once and it just heated up so fast. Cool build though! If I get a model Y, I'll look into upgrading for a camper build with the Fruble and Bed frame.

Propane certainly works well generally. I find it difficult to cook in windy weathers, and it was annoying trying to find ways to block off the wind so the heat could concentrate.
Nice build. Perhaps that can be your next product after the Frunk Table.

Thanks Jeremy! We’ll see how that works out! 😃
Outstanding! You guys are the pioneers of Y buildouts I haven’t seen any others on YT other than ppl throwing in a mattress and a fridge with no drawers etc. (Which Power Station model was that?) Also I believe he could achieve a similar effect instead with a sine wave inverter i.e. 2000 watt, connected to the 12 V battery that comes with the model Y. Tesla automatically re-charges that 12 v house batt from the Tesla big batt system automatically. Just have to run the proper cabling from front battery to rear of car to power the inverter which you would install in the back. I think I saw he already has an inverter mounted in the back, presumably he’ll use that to recharge his power station, but that seems redundant to me because he could just plug the hot plate straight into a 2000w inverter.. Anyone please correct me if I am mistaken because that’s the set up I am going to do, minus the big power station since that’s basically what a tesla already is..

Thanks so much Ronny! I think the one he has is the BLUETTI AC200P. Agree, it will be much simpler to tap into the 12V onboard battery but you risk voiding the vehicle warranty. I read somewhere that you’re not even supposed to jump start other vehicles using the 12V as it may or will damage the main high voltage pack. So idk how safe is it to hook an inverter to it.

Great point; I have an inverter from the 12v battery in my electric van, but I've just ordered a tesla and so wondered if I could do the same. Did you follow this up and install an inverter; I'd be keen to know how you got on? Likewise, the video seemed to show a small inverter at the back, but there's no mention of it in any of the comments or notes? I asked tesla what the max wattage output of the 12v sockets, in case the easiest way is to use that to keep a jackery topped up while it's being used. They just told me you mustn't do this. I bet the inverter is doable; I just need to find someone who's done it.
Incredible! Have you ever thought of doing these kinds of builds professionally? And if so... What would something like this cost? Love your work.

@@LivinginTesla If you did a build it yourself kit for the plywood bits (think model planes and cars that come in a flat pattern) I'm sure you could make a great business out of it. All the off the shelf parts like hinges and pumps you give the link along with the kit. I'd pay a handsome price for that for sure.

Hey, I just commented on your v.1 built because I didn't see there's a v.2 🙂 But I guess my comment applies here as well: I feel for one person this is not how I would do the job. I would only build out a part of the widht of the car (which is enough for 1 person to sleep) but then build out the other half up to the ceiling. That would be a nice project. Let's see if I ever get to do it 🙂 But congrats on the nice builb!

Thanks so much J! Yeah, if you'd like more headroom with just 1 person, then building the setup to one single side will probably be better.

great build! i notice when you fold the seats down they’re on an angle, sleeping like that would be bad for your back, do you account for the angle in the build so that you end up laying flat?

On your off road adventures do you worry about getting a flat tire? I would pay for a set of drawing to help build this myself.
@LivinginTesla

Thanks Mark! Normally I just go very slow on my off road adventures to avoid tire punctures. It’s not very smart, I should really be carrying a spare. I don’t have a proper drawing but if you pause the video, these measurements shown in the video are the most important ones and should be very helpful!
What kind of watts does that Duxtop induction cooktop normally draw? Is the external Bluetti battery charged with the rear 12V at all times? And also, did you end up getting a miniature fridge for this setup as well?
@LivinginTesla
Жыл бұрын
I think the duxtop runs at 1800W maximum. I don't have a fridge myself yet but hoping to get one soon.
Hey thanks for this video I am exploring the option of an induction cooker also, did your friend plug it into the battery pack in the sub trunk or into the 12volt inverter? Can it be plugged into the 12 volt inverter safely? Thanks 🙏
@LivinginTesla

Hey Allen. Yes, you'll need an external battery pack to power an induction cooktop as the on-board 12V is not powerful enough.

If you have an induction hob that uses less than the maximum output of the inverter then you'll be fine. I use a 1500w inverter in my electric van and run a camping hob that has a max draw of 800w, and it works well. What I don't know is what size / wattage inverter you can put in a tesla, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this?

Is living in a Tesla more efficient than pulling a small camper. like Teardrop Trailer with a custom aerodynamic nose? because this setup in the Tesla is slide an extra weight on the car all the tire driving car. Especially with the bed mattress, the water tank, the oven, cloth, food, all that kind of stuff.
@LivinginTesla
Жыл бұрын
Pulling anything outside will always increase drag. Putting things inside the car is the most efficient way to go and with everything we have, there's little to no observable range difference.
also I was wondering one thing, you travel in your Tesla full time? or do you have a house I know your channel name is "living in Tesla" but I just thought it would be extremely difficult to only live in your Tesla

If you wanted to go alternative vehicles , there are better alternative vehicles than a Tesla, which has no room and not even remotely 4x4. Where is your spare? Do you have a contingency for being too far from a charging station? I am glad Tesla is finally being forced to have it so other electric vehicles can use Tesla charging stations.
