Tesla Model Y & 3 - Annual Maintenance to Keep Your Tesla Running Smooth For Years to Come

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Every year your Tesla Model Y and Model 3 will need some level of maintenance. Although Tesla's come with the huge advantage of significantly less maintenance than a traditional gas car, they still have some things that need to be done to keep it running in top shape.
The best part about maintenance in a Tesla is that most all of it can be done at home by yourself. Every year, there are some things that I do, but don't forget to do the regular stuff that requires more frequent work, like tire rotations, between the annual stuff.
First off is replacing the wiper blades and topping off the washer fluid. Since you don't go in for an oil change on a frequency, the complimentary washer fluid is not being added to your car, so something to keep an eye on.
Next is rotating the tires, which is a very important thing to do regularly to extend the life of the highest cost maintenance item on your Tesla Model Y and Model 3. The tires will wear faster on these cars and maintaining them will extend their life giving you the most miles per set. To do this, you will need to get a special low profile jack. With the lifting puck, even the Model Y does not have enough room for a standard floor jack to fit. You need what is called a low profile jack, which is linked below for your convenience.
Next you will want to replace your air filters and clean out the evaporator. This can help keep up with the moisture buildup that happens in there and starts to add a smell to the cab of the car in certain climates. These air filters are HEPA rated and last longer doing a much better job cleaning the air than a traditional paper filter.
Next is cleaning and sealing the seats. Using the right cleaning supplies is important as is protecting the seats in your Model Y and Model 3. Having that ceramic coat on the seats will help with maintaining the seats between washes.
Finally, you need to install all of those fun accessories that you have been sitting on and haven't yet put on the car. Your Model Y and Model 3 have access to one of the largest accessories markets in the world, and there are countless items to help enhance you Tesla ownership experience.

One thing I consider extremely important, if you live in northern states or in Canada, where they use salt on the roads during the winter months, is to clean your brake slider pins. Whenever I swap my Summer tires for my Winters, and visa versa, I take the pins and brake pads out and clean/lube the pins to keep them from corroding and getting seized in the callipers. If this happens they may have to be cut out.

This time of year I need to put on my All Weather tires here in the Pacific Northwest (Vancouver, BC), I install my old (2023) Ionic 5's 20" EV01+ wheels from Fastwheels the bolt pattern and offset are the same just the hub size requires an adapter (WHEEL CONNECT Hub Centric Rings, 67.1 to 64.1), they have my super great Michelin Cross Climate 2 235/R45-20's, the narrow profile to allow the tire to cut through the snow and also improve my efficiency during the cold. I also install my CYBERBEANS Shade for Tesla Model Y Glass Roof, with space blanket sandwiched between, to give better insulation during the cold weather to improve efficiency by reducing my heating load. Now I should be all set for my next mountain road adventure!!! Look out snow!

Good looking out again BTG! Although my mileage is low on my 2020 MY I’ve had my tires rotated 3 times. They initially charged $50 now it’s $100 😂. So I’ll be doing these rotations myself moving forward 🤙🏾

I have the 20” wheels on my MY, took it to Costco for the rotation and the brake caliper covers on the fron were rubbing, so they said the wheels were staggered and they rotated side to side, and also scratched them a lot. I still had some rubbing on one side, so I installed a small spacer. But next time I’ll do it myself. Based on your video I think it’s front to back? Thanks for sharing

I would use the impact driver to remove the lug nuts only. You risk breaking the lug nuts or wheel bolt. Always use a put the lug nuts back on by hand and use a good torque wrench/gauge to make sure they’re to spec.
