Hi, I got the same issue and did this trick. It solved 50% of the issue. The rest of humidity is due to water from air conditionning getting inside the air filters. You need to add foam arround the air filters to allow water being drained properly

great video, as far as the additional sealing you mentioned under the cover, I just remember using a roll of foam tape to seal the edges of my car wheel covers. I think it would work well for what you mentioned. It needs to be a tape of weather stripping that would stick and stay under all sorts of weather conditions though aand not crack over time if exposed to uv rays.

Ahh soo now I know where the water was coming from! Mine was leaking thru into passenger cabin to floor.

Notice the new HEPA "biodefense" filter and retrofit Tesla is now installing on the Model Y has a large plastic cover on top of the filter housing. This prevents water from landing on top of the actual filter. Unfortunately it's not available for the Model 3 supposedly due to space limitations.

Doesn't the rubber seal restrict fresh air flow to the cabin?

For the amount we paying for these cars shouldn't this work be done during manufacturing?

Totally agree with you but, considering they can't even make a strong enough plastic clip (kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6GWucWNgK64Zag.html) I have little hope they will add the water deflector 🤭

Tesla is still Young. They just recently figured out how to align a roof properly along with all body panels.

Defending a 20 yr old car manufacturer doesn't help. Especially one that only build 4 cars.

GAHH Your son is soooo adorable!!!! The gap there seems insanely big. Is it like that on other cars? Seems an odd design?

Thank you =). I'm not sure how large the gap is on other cars but, even just judging the thickness of the aftermarket bracket + weather seal it's roughly 2.5 finger widths thick. I guess Tesla put a lot of faith in the drain hole that's inside the vent to be able to capture and drain any water that entered it but, IMO it's better to prevent water entering in the first place.

@@wonked Yeah I saw another video awhile back of someone doing a different sort of seal around the frunk. Hopefully Tesla will fix it going forward.

With the vent seal and the frunk weather striping, how does air get to the inlet for A/C and heat when not in recirculate?

The seal doesn't completely seal the frunk. If you look closely you'll see the left and right edges do not go all the way to the ends. The bolts on the hood, near the top edge, next to the struts are not sealed at all. The seal simply deflects water away from the opening, air is still able to enter the inlet unrestricted.

​​@@wonked from what I saw in another video by davenport concerning this same issue, there is a 20% reduction in air flow with your current setup. That extra filter you added definitely makes that reduction bigger. There are different ways to get that airflow back in highly recommend taking a look at his video about the cabin air filter problem. It's pretty extensive research.

I saw the edge of your hood being sealed with rubber strip, does it help preventing water from getting in the hood?

It helps a little but not a lot. It mostly just keeps the area surrounding the frunk storage area cleaner (slightly less dust/water).

By blocking the vent (with the filter) and gaps into the frunk, did you find that your center info screen heat up more than usual?

This vent is for the AC system, ie. when you have recirculate turned off the air from that vent is what comes into the cabin though the AC, it's not directly related to the centre display at all so I can't say I noticed any heat difference for the display. When I had the filter installed there was definitely less airflow from the AC when recirculate was off, now with no filter and just the newly installed weather seal I get full air flow again.

@@wonked I am glad that you removed that restrictive outside air filter, now I am very impressed with your extra weatherstripping. I was worried about restrictive fresh air flow into the cabin.
