    Nice video and nice Chinese-made Model 3! It's handy using AP, especially in traffic jams as you mentioned ... providing you don't have other drivers cut in on you. Here in HK, if you leave a slight gap (and, quite honestly, Tesla AP leaves quite a large gap even at it's shortest proximity setting), then you allow the wolves in! 😅

  • @MBrown

    @MBrown

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey thanks for the comment, yeah loving the MIC Tesla! Yes I can imagine people would cut in, I turn it off sometimes as the gap is a little big especially if loads of people are behind you at a junction!

  • @Macfilos

    @Macfilos

    3 жыл бұрын

    I agree that the gap is a bit too large. I find it rather embarrassing in heavy traffic because cars creep up behind and you feel guilty for leaving so much space. I suspect it's ok in, say, the USA where roads are wider and there is generally more space, but here in the UK (and in HK as I know) it's the opposite. I find I have to override the stop and edge a bit forward. Another problem is that the car doesn't start off quickly enough when the car in front moves, thus creating even more angst. I'm gradually getting used to feathering the throttle to overcome these problems.

    @@Macfilos Thanks for your sharing. I know exactly how you feel about unintentionally blocking other road users. My AP blocked someone behind me (when there was plenty of room in front of me), and this caused the female driver to flip me the bird as she eventually passed me (all caught on video!). 😂 Yes, I sometimes have to "feather the throttle" but this kinda defeats the purpose of having AP! I'm sure things will improve in the near future.

    NEVER try and use either Autopilot OR TACC when passing a bike....your car will have a real trauma even if you are steering and 3 feet away from the bike. It’s odd how the car reduces speed in lowered speed gates but hardly ever speeds up when they increase speed.

  • @911Locksmiths

    @911Locksmiths

    Yip. You have to notice the bike and put your foot on the accelerator or the car does a near emergency stop. I was passing a bike that was on a separate bike lane beside me, it was a national speed limit and the car slowed to 30 instantly.

    So Autopilot is not really designed for single carriage way driving. It’s not going to navigate junctions or navigate around cars. That’s going to be what FSD is for. Just be careful of using AP on single roads. Lots of people have had accidents thinking that the car will drive for them.

  • @MBrown

    @MBrown

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Ross, yes , I mean it does work, but at the moment I standard autopilot doesn't seem to like driving around cars, (sometimes it does just not every time.) Yes I'd never take my hands off and to be honest I wouldn't use it for single lanes, just motorway journeys

  • @RossMalin

    @RossMalin

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@MBrown I don’t think Autopilot will ever work like that. That’s the whole point of having FSD as an upgrade. I treat AP as a more advanced adaptive cruise control. The think the name should be renamed as it can misleading to the uninformed. Just go on the Tesla owner forums and you will see new owner reporting accidents where they have clipped park cars or not taken a corner correctly when they have used AP on a single carriageway! On a motorway/dual carriageway I love it, makes monotonous journeys much more enjoyable.

    Great stuff, Mark. I took delivery of my M3 LR (blue, white interior) on March 1 from Thorpe Park in Surrey. I've had similar experiences to you and I'm enjoying Auto Pilot. I did order FSD but that could have been a mistake, I feel, given the few additional tricks. Traffic light recognition is neat, though, and it means the M3 will stop even if there is no car in front. Interesting that you are using public chargers only and it will be good to hear how you get on long-term with this. I'm lucky enough to have a home charger and I'm using Octopus GO, so I get night charging for four hours at 5p per kWh. I've done 500 miles in two weeks at a total cost of £6.25. This is bargain-basement motoring. Like you, too, I'm enjoying driving (without driver aids) more than I thought I would. This car is very comparable with a well-set-up A4 or 3-Series and, if anything, the steering is better. My last car was a Jaguar I-Pace which, in general, I loved. But the public charging network on long distances is total crap and that's the main reason I swapped for a Tesla. Keep up the videos. I've linked your collection video in an initial review for my blog, Macfilos, which will publish on Sunday, March 14. Mike

  • @MBrown

    @MBrown

    Hey Michael oh great, I love the Blue colour too! Ah great how do you find the FSD, would you say its worth the upgrade? I noticed they do Enhanced for half the price, so I'm seriously considering that. Yes so far the public charging has been good, however I think after lock down it will get harder and harder for me to charge my car, but as long as I can charge once a week that will be good. Yes £6.25 for 500 miles is incredible! (and often overlook part of the savings I think.)

    @@MBrown Mark, As far as I can tell, the extras currently included in the FSD pack are traffic light and stop sign recognition, auto lane change and on/off motorway slip roads, summon and auto park. All these features work well, although Summon is a big of a gimmick. Parking is much better than with most modern cars where you are prompted to change gear. The Tesla system does everything, including selecting drive/reverse as necessary. I think most of these features are included in the new half-price package, although presumably the full FSD could be worth it for the future. However, the subscription service which is coming mid-year is possibly the best bet of all, especially if you don't keep a car for long. I'm aware that I've paid £6,000-odd for something that I'm unlikely to get full advantage of, considering that I change cars frequently. As for colour, when I saw yours I wished I'd ordered black. Then when I see red I wish I'd gone for that. Blue seemed to be the unusual choice and it does look good, especially with the white seats, so I'm happy with the decision.
