What a story to hear. I was fishing the Match lake during that period and used to hear the tales of all the boys over on the North and Car Park, prior to any mobiles, so to hear him tell this tale and bring back some great memories for me is amazing. Radio Active, Dome Tents, one big family and one big social. That was Yateley back then. Such an amazing time!

I've just discovered these videos of Terry and have been binge watching them. He's a wonderful story teller and a great angler. I knew (how could I not?) of his achievements as a carp angler, but didn't realise he is an all rounder. He's obviously a genuine, modest guy and an absolute pleasure to listen to. I hope I might meet him one day and shake his hand.

The commitment and effort which is involved is incredible. This video has just nudged me in the ribs to remember that I haven't stopped Carp fishing, but merely put it on hold! Wow. 'Bucks fizz' targeting Bazil for 14 yrs, that's dedication on another level! But fitting @ the weight of 49lb! My uncle, use to be a syndicate member of the North Lake. The stupid idiot cast his 28mm homemade Strawberry Birdfood boilie to the island, & said to Leroy Smith (I think his name was) you take charge of one of these rods... The inevitable happened, and this chaps rods gone off, only to land Bazil @ 45lb 6oz. That's the story I was told, whether or not that was true, that my uncle allowed him to use one of his rods or not, he's a better man than I am to allow that to happen! I remember both of them coming back to my nan's house absolutely buzzing. The home developed photos of that fish was amazing in the late September sunshine! My uncle said he was one of the 1st to of had all the north lakes fish out, I do recall seeing him in the Big Carp magazine once upon a time. Yeah Strawberry Birdfood boilies did the trick back then, I was only 12 14 yrs old, and I use to eat them, they smelt bloody lovely! 😂

Caught me PB last summer, 33.5lbs. Before that it stood at 13lb. Live in Canada now, I was on the phone to my Nan, it was 36 degrees and about noon when my rod jumped of the rest and started going towards the water. I just grabbed it in time and that line was flying. 15-20 minutes later she breached and I could not believe my eyes. Like a submarine coming up. She was magnificent!
