Knowing he was the the only calling for accountability, that may be why God put him there: to call out Hillsong when the scandal happened. Also, this trail has clearly forced him to consider what should a church look like with astounding clarity and determination. My take away: Just because things go wrong, doesn't mean God hasn't called you to it; maybe He called you to clean it up.

The more the truth comes out about Brian Houston and the Hillsong empire/cult, the more boxes for Narcissism and sociopathy are ticked by him. HG Tudor says that one of the Narcissist's Prime Aims is character trait acquisition for the construction and maintenance of the facade. Many Narcissists are drawn to churches because there is a huge volume of vulnerable victims to exploit. They are drawn to positions of power and control (which they're addicted to), and they can hide under the guise of Christianity, being wolves in shepherd's clothing. They're also whitened sepulchres full of dead men's bones. Narcissists are opportunistic parasites, and commodify others for their own consumption. Lacking empathy, driven by entitlement, they "make merchandise of people", enriching themselves at the expense of others. We're surrounded by sociopaths and deceivers. I'm glad that Jesus knew it all along and warned us beforehand. It's validating to be able to see the gaslighting of the evil one's puppets for what it is.

I 100% believe God told him to become a Hillsong church for the very reason we see. That we are shown what being a leader of a church is about. About stepping away from evil when you see it. About being a light of truth for the world to see about making people think about actions and being accountable. 100% heard from God who worked it according to His purpose

How the heck does this mean that he didn’t hear from God? It seems like He is right where he needed to be.

I get what you are saying and you are right: be very suspicious of anyone saying, "God told me." It's usually their own thoughts. However, in this case, God is using this pastor to expose Hillsong and stand for what is right and for that, I applaud him. Maybe that's why God put him in the situation.

Hillsong didn't become exposed because of any Pastor. It was exposed by Journalists. Pastor Christ reacted to the crisis. He didnt't act, before it was revealed. Not to blame him, but he didn't start it.

Spent 22 years at this church when it was called, Word of Grace. It was where I learned, served and healed. I left when “pastors” Terry and Judith came on board. They have a low view on the authority of scripture and must have bypassed 1 Timothy 2:12 which is clear regarding women teaching. That, and so much in the seeker sensitive, watered down gospel movement. I’m so thankful to be a part of a church that holds Jesus high and the authority of scripture as truth.

I fully believe in pastor Crist. I'm proud that he stood up to the mega church ... He's a very good man. I know him personally, he's been my pastor for over 10 years. Our church was appalled at the actions of the global church. Just because God spoke to him to join the church many years ago doesn't mean that this wasn't supposed to happen. God also teaches us lessons and our lives have seasons of change. Our church will grow from this and heal. I'm personally grateful that we are back to being city of grace. It was so much better when the Crists had full control. Not every person associated with Hillsong are bad people. Yet, I absolutely believe that something very dark and sinister was at play here. I also believe that Hillsong Phoenix and all 6 affiliate locations did the right thing. Terry Christ stood up and is holding those accountable.

Just do not build your gospel on lying bibles. The bible has been changed. Did God say? Come on, really? God said He preserved His word. Psalm 12:6-7. Most modern bibles do not. In other words they are not admitting that God has a standard, His inspired word. His word is quick (alive) and quickens (gives life). His word is eternal. Most of the modern bibles have at least one out and out lie. NKJB lies in Exodus 6:3. They began to call on the name of the Lord in Genesis 4:26. Others quote Jesus telling his brothers, i am not going to the feast. John 7:8. (Is he saying he is going to break the law of Moses?) He waits and then goes. Liar! BLASPHEMY . Jesus simply said, not going now, not yet. He waits and then goes. No problem, no lie. And blatantly they mock Jesus and unashamedly, constantly, with each change ask, Did God say? Did God say Mark 11:26? Absolutely. It is an essential part of our walk with God. A verse that makes us tremble was added????? Did God say? Acts 15:34? It shows God's divine providence. Silas was there when Paul needed him for a journey. Obviously Silas remained there. BRAZENLY, they change or remove a word that gives the believers true power! Matthew 12:31 and Mark 9:29! Some spiritual warfare needs prayer and fasting! Did God say eleven (11) times in the New Testament the word damnation, eternal burning? Yes. But not in theirs! Did God say? Did God give three witnesses to that truth? Mark 9:44, 46, 48. They however only have v48. The other two they ask, Did God say? This is important because we need to know the truth and those who preach Annialism, we cease to exist, are easily proven wrong with these verses. Jesus is God and Jesus is Man. What you mean you believe in him. The only person that you suppose to fully believe in is Jesus. All you do not learn. And if God told him to join hillsong no this would not have happened God doesn't make mistakes. Hillsong is not a church there is nothing Christian about hillsong. I personally feel we should never say "God spoke to me" lightly. Weeks ago one pastor told me how one pastor he is closed to (n still is) where yrs also this pastor told his church to bid for a location for $XXX Million as he felt God spoke to him on that amount to bid. Yes they successfully won the bid for that location but they actually over bidded about $6M! The highest bid was much much lower. So this had me thinking, did God actually spoken to him or its just his own voice. Mind you, he is a good pastor but it had me to be careful about using God's name in vain. These days I never go around telling people I think God spoke to me to do this or that...I dont want to make that kind of mistakes. I dont know about that pastor, whether its a mistake or not. But I dont buy the "God spoke to me" easily these days.

I used to be apart of hillsong Phoenix 2017-2020. Thank god I got out of that church. Though I will say terry was different from other hillsong pastors. He would actually meet his congregation, not bail off stage hiding behind security after the service like the rest do. Though I still have a problem with how every message was a feel good and not the topic of sin.

Amen 🙏 2009-2022 here! It's always been City Of Grace for me though. People say Ps Terry transformed himself to fit in at Hillsong. No he did not. LoL he's always been hip and vibrant. Now that he's grown his beard out they see him different, is that it? Beards are trendy.

I went to City of Grace (WOG) way before the Crists took over, but I left when they joined Hillsong because it felt icky right away. The "brand" took away almost everything that made it a community church, especially the way they handled the youth ministry. Frankly, these spiritual abuses are rampant in the megachurch complex, and even as much as we DO know, it only scratches the surface. The Church is not and should never behave like a corporation or a business, it's completely antithetical to the teachings of Jesus.

Me too. Left 12 years ago and hung in there for a year or so. I’m so happy to be in a church that believes in the authority of scripture and has men on the pulpit.

This is so wrongly misinterpreted or misunderstood. He speaks of God calling him to open a church in Phoenix done through Hillsong at the time. Just bc Hillsong did wrong doesn’t mean God didn’t want a church planted. For example, it was God’s plan to call the nation of Israel in the Old Testament but time & time again they sinned in which He had to carry out punishment (Ex. Exile to Babylon). God can call people or churches but they may break away due to sin and in time He holds everyone accountable. The important part is what actions did this pastor take upon seeing the inappropriate approach of Hillsong pastor and leadership? They fired the head pastor but he wanted to see leadership do more internal investigations along with disclosing info to pastors so they make sure history doesn’t repeat. Instead, they were requiring NDEs and non competes to conceal info. In ministry, God calls pastors and no one can hold back a calling. You don’t require a pastor to sign a non compete or furthermore an NDA. This is insane, a very corporate mindset and obviously there’s something wrong they don’t want to correct. The pastor did right by telling them they’re wrong and to break from the church. He didn’t have to do so. He did right to depart from Hillsong upon the inappropriate actions of Hillsong leadership. Not wanting to disclose info or requiring NDEs/Non Competes to have that info is fishy and he did right to tell them they’re wrong. The church in Phoenix moves on.

My wife and I were part of and were married at Hillsong Phoenix when it was still City of Grace. Pastor Terry Crist is NOT of the Hillsong pastors who glorifies himself and not God, is reckless with the church and those that serve the church. He made the right decision leaving the Hillsong "brand".

He did hear from God, and was in the right place at the right time. You can only influence the situation if you are inside. God can ask us to do difficult things, Phoenix church has been very brave and their example will help other churches. Only God knows the future.

A "church' wants not only an NDA (Ephesians 5:11), but a noncompete as well? Do they think they own the Holy Spirit? Sounds like Simony to me.

Mega Churches Pastors live a very lavish lifestyle while some of their followers are struggling and broke.

It's such a shame that people follow Pastors, names instead of God. Instead of Jesus. Isn't that what happened to churches before and Paul talked about it? The Gospel of Jesus is all about Mercy, forgiveness, love. But Christians the moment you make a mistake they judge you sooo harshly and abandon you God said Justice and Vengeance belongs to Him. And Jesus said let he who has no sin cast the first stone. Despite the wrongs Hillsong church under its leadership has done sooo much for so many people. But ofcourse all that has been forgotten. All in all and in every situation God is God. And God shall prevail.

Yeah I noticed that too. First it started out with the no-tie open collar, then the shaved head and soul patch, and if you had a head of hair you got hi-lights, THEN the skinny jeans. Not to mention the tattoos...

The Lord God knew what would happen with Hillsong when Terry joined. God is not obliged to reveal that to Terry. This is all a part of God’s greater Plan. He’ll work it out.

can U please show me a verse in New Test where it states God speaks to man,,i then thought we are led by and through the Holy Spirit, i cant find one verse where Jesus or apostles say we are led by God in New Test, i only find verses saying we are led by and through the Joly Spirit,as soon as someone stands up and says "God spoke directly to me" red lights start flickering in my head ,,Jesus said 'I will send the Holy Spirit tp guide you" not God speaking directly to man

I enjoyed Pastor Crist’s teachings. He and his wife seem like true people of God. I hope they start dressing their age though. I don’t understand the need for all these pastors to dress hip and cool.

"If you let everybody know what the offerings are, to the last dollar, and if you let everybody know how the money is spent, to the last dollar, I will cause such crowds of people to come to this place that you won't be able to handle them." This is a Word I received for a Melbourne Church with a congregation of about 2,000 almost three years ago. They were just breaking even financially, they weren't really growing; and their pastors' salaries were not public, let alone their assets.

Praying is in progress but also correction needs to be done and more accountability, which for now Hillsong has not shown. One person down and plenty that knew, and covered it up for years. That’s not a good workplace practice.

Danny, thank you. Prayer is the only answer. Pray for everyone involved. Everyone can point a finger, but how many of you prayed for those involved? The devil is happy. He has destroyed another Church and leaders. I pray that they have repented and are on the road to getting right with God first. Let God lead and guide them. I pray that they get their lives together and follow God's leading. Stop trying to find out when he knew and how he knew. We are headed for a great awakening. Get ready!

Towards the end he spoke about secular organizations having more accountability than churches. Well, the church should have NEVER gotten to a place that it is run like a business. Surprised hillsong Australia hasn’t sank into a hole in the center of the earth by now. God is gracious and merciful.

Moreover, the church in the New Testament was also mobile-constantly on the move. We are called to be an offensive church that even the gates of hell could not prevail

God only speaks through the Bible (His Word), not to people individually on where and what to do. Otherwise, the voices in your head become just as authoritive as the Bible.

Voices are not in our heads and conciseness and thoughts... Many researchers and scientists agree they cannot be sure all thoughts originate in the body mind or brain. Pretty sure when the holy spirit indwells he actually does something... Doesn't just become mouldy inside us till he gets a job when we die.

Hi Glenn. I agree that God does predominantly reveal His will for our lives through the scripture. And the more we read and ask for His Spirit to impress the truth upon our hearts the more that happens. But there have been a very few instances in my life where I "heard" - definitively - the voice of God. And it was backed up or confirmed by real events. Very few times and all were for serious reasons. After that happens it is impossible to doubt or ignore His voice.

Yes He does. God is speaking continually. If we can’t hear Him, our ears are dull of hearing or we’re turned to the wrong thing. Yes He speaks through His word, but He also speaks through His Holy Spirit.

Hillsong was like the Tower of Babel. It was doomed to fail bcos God wasn't in it. Christians should build a church on the foundation of Jesus Christ. Our manual should be the Bible.

It is not a time-proven wisdom to invalidate a person's claim of having heard from God just because things had gone wrong along the way. There is such a thing as 'seasons' where for a season God puts us in a place/situation/church where we know that we know that we know that we heard from God that we need to be in that specific place/situation/church. And just because it was not a forever thing, does not necessarily mean that we did not hear from God in the first place. You are giving a bad advice. I applaud Pastor Crist, when a man of God has an intimate relationship with God his actions will clearly show that. He is standing up to what and for what he was called to serve as a servant of God.

this is what happens when music becomes the main focus of the church service and God and Jesus Christ is left out of the services, the main focus must be on the Holy Spirit during thr service

The only possibility is that God was teaching him how bad this group was. I used to be a member of Fellowship Church in the DFW area (Ed Young Jr.) I strongly believed God was calling me there. But they ran me out. Did I hear wrongly? Or did God want to show me how churches in the Last Days would become? And also, to find a woman who would go through sheer hell but now lives with me, due to her poor health she would be homeless otherwise.

I don't think you heard it wrong. You were needed there for some reason. God called Jeremiah to speak to a people who wouldn't listen. That didn't mean Jeremiah was in the wrong place or not doing God's will. Stay close to the Lord and thank you for being an honest Christian.

I understand that. My comment was concerning how they were running the church prior to separating from Hillsong.

Yes! There needs to be accountability for the board who had a responsibility to protect the people and not cover and enable leadership.

You raised a very good question. If God can forsee the future, why did he intend the Pastor and his church to lead them into Hillsong? No critic to Pastor Christ and his team, for taking responsibility and leaving Hillsong for justified reasons.

God is not pleased when the church has become a market place over caring for the people within. Praise God for those who had the courage to up turn the tables as Jesus did!

Wow, seems IHOPKC could take note. I left this system 18 years ago, it's not built on Christ. I've been praying for over 20 years for God to topple these Empires of Man. Where is the fear of God.

Hillsong had a long and well-documented history of abhorrent theology. They presented an unbiblical gospel and an unbiblical Jesus wrapped in great music. If the Phoenix leadership had been discerning, they would have rejected Hillsong's false teaching and never joined in the first place.

God is obviously separating the wheat from the tares. King David fell, was found out and was blessed after repenting. King Solomon fell and his kingdom was divided because he refused to turn back to God after being found out. Hillsong reminds me of King Solomon’ Kingdom….

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11

Never stopped asking for their money. Every single opportunity they would preach on tithing and giving and using or misusing scriptures continually. People slowly found out and they just left because they was no apology and removing those involved from the church???? On and on this mess went. And I don’t even have words for this spiritual abuse in so many and they are able to exploit over and over again with absolutely no conscience??? How if you are meant to be truly born again. I am so very very grateful and more than my words to hear you deliver the biggest biggest most honest most prophetic statement I have ever heard. God often leads people through trials and tribulations. He never promises that it will be easy only that you must seek him for answers. Terry Crist has each week updated is on everything. The good, bad and ugly. He is very transparent and he has openly tried to hold Hillsong accountable. The second he did that he was threatened with our church. They refuse to acknowledge anything (Hillsong) and keep sweeping things under the rug. It took great courage for Pastor to stand up to Hillsong. We worry what hillsongs retribution will be for him speaking out but he had to. It was the right thing to do to let us all know about the NDA and trying to force the Crists to sign over their church (which FYI we've had this church for decades ... It was never hillsongs). Please don't judge one man on the actions of others.

I think it's much better for us to examine our own hearts as we will give account for our lives not those we attack.

It is possible God did, in fact, speak loudly to Pastor Crist to join Hillsong in 2016. Just because the scandals with Hillsong happened doesn’t mean it wasn’t in God’s plan to make this a trial for everyone involved. This was a HUGE test for Pastor Crist and everyone involved to make the right choice once these scandals occurred. It shows a lot that he was willing to basically separate from a church that isn’t clearly reflecting the gospel. Luckily he protected himself in 2016 with his stipulations, and I believe that was God’s doing as well. When God tells you to do something, YOU DO IT. even if it doesn’t make sense, even if it ends up making you leave reputation fall down, even if it makes you lose money, even if it “wasted your time.” God’s plan all along was to see how City of Grace would react to everything, including all the other partnered churches under Hillsong. It seems that all pastor Crist wants is the truth, accountability, and a church that acts and reflects God’s true nature. I’m proud that City of Grace has God as the priority and not their affiliation to a franchise. But just as importantly, I think that everyone should pray for those who sinned under their involvement with Hillsong. Those who did wrong doing should not be kicked to the curve from ever being loved again, but encouraged to repent and use their testimony to help the weak suffering through similar situations. In other words, pray for Hillsong to be closer to God in the midst of all the shady stuff going on, but also, Proud of you City of Grace! I’ll miss the church being part of Hillsong but I overall agree this was the best choice right now.

I have no sympathy for either Hillsong or its leadership. You'd think "men(or women)of God" would have a conscience, self-discipline and a real concern about their flocks and what kind of image they are presenting to outsiders. Apparently not. I wonder if they realize how many people including their own congregants will walk away from anything to do with Christianity completely disillusioned. It wasn't because of Hillsong but I certainly did and I have no plans of returning to any church or organized religion.

Are you really saved? The denomination is not as important as your soul. Make sure that is secured. And when the denomination is in trouble, let's walk in grace towards them and pray for them. For it is still the body of Christ.

Sure do and Brian's trial is in November this year 2022..Brian admitted he failed to call the police about his pedophile Father and Brian perjured himself at the Royal commission into child sex abuse saying "once I sacked my father he never ever preached again", well there's visual evidence his father did preach in 2002..Lying under oath is a crime..Brian is looking at 5_7 years jail..

Oh dear, the person posting this seems to think people don't hear from God anymore. The guy seems spot on to me and certainly willing to stand in the fire when he needs to for the sake of justice. If the church and church leaders are people who don't hear from God anymore that's very alarming.

Ummm I hear from God everyday! He speaks to me . He speaks to His sheep! God surely does and can speak to His people when they seek Him and ask Him for His direction. Glad Pastor Crist stepped away . He did the right thing. Just because this happened doesn’t mean the pastor didnt hear form God. If he says he did then he did. When God calls and chooses us leads us to places, doesn’t mean everything is going to be easy, you will face challenges, things don’t go smoothly nor perfect nor may go the way we think. And He can surely change our direction when things like this arise, you seek Gods wisdom and making the wise decision ad Pastor Crist did.

This is a good example of how we as Christians need to be overly cautious about the language of "God spoke to me." It should always be shared with a caveat that "it seems to me that the Spirit is leading." It should also be open to hear (and not be defensive of) questions from other mature in the faith believers.

Anyone that considers Brain Houston a leader and someone to look up to has no discernment in my book.

This is a pastor who is leaving this church not as one who wants to do it right before the sight of God, but to save his kingdom. He does not want to leave this heretical group but to save his kingdom. Jude 4 leader.

If your pastor says "God has spoken to me," get up, run out the back door, and don't look back. It's not a church, it's a cult.

If this pastor said that God told him to join Hillsong, then why he isn't asking God for.his next move? He is making the decision himself without God!!!

I've been to several mega-churches, including Lakewood Church in Houston (long before they moved into the Summit). I don't think a church can get that big and keep its eye on what's important. There are too many moving parts, and too many broken people trying to keep those parts moving. Too many people on the outside, and many on the inside too, think that people of the church are supposed to be perfect. We're all SUPPOSED TO BE perfect, but we all fall short. Some more than others. An excuse is an explanation that seeks to avoid accountability. So, we shouldn't excuse the sins of our church leaders, because there MUST be accountability in whatever form that takes. However, that's not a reason to turn away from Jesus. It's the reason we need him. Repent, and trust in God's grace.

It's really sobering to think that he said he was absolutely certain that God called him to pastor a Hillsong Church. It just goes to show that we shouldn't be guided through life by intuitive senses and feelings, but by Scripture, reason and counsel from those who have a well-earned reputation for being godly and wise. Scripture says that Hillsong isn't a church to join, because their popular, emotion-driven worship is trying to compensate for lousy, tacky prosperity teaching and shallow pep-rally preaching. It doesn't matter if there are 15,000 singing every Sunday. Disobedience in doctrine makes a church a fallen church; And the Scripture says that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22 - and sacrifice meant "worship" in the Old Testament). To obey is better than worship. It's the sum of the entire Hillsong era. By consulting Scripture, rather than feelings, he would've found the answer to the "opportunity" to become a Hillsong pastor. He couldn't have been more certain, and yet, more wrong. By betting it all on that feeling, he showed that 1. He's guided by feelings. And 2. Those feelings are a broken compass. Doesn't sound like someone who should be attempting to lead people into eternity.

Poor theology leads to having to resort to "God spoke to me", a form of mysticism. Which in turn brings reproach on my Lord Jesus Christ.

With the, on many accounts, horrific unBiblical theology behind the Hillsong churches, we could have seen this coming looooong time ago! And it seriously questions the 2016 decision to join Hillsong churches as 16th Hillsong church. Hillsong is theologically so bad, that God never asked anyone to join Hillsong in the first place.

That is not sound. Why did God tell David to play for Saul when Saul continually tried to kill him? Why did he tell Paul to go to Rome then in the middle of the trip, the ship was wrecked and they were stranded on Malta? You are in no place to judge why God choses to do something. We have to trust God in the good and bad times. Period.

@@bridgetjentzsch3226 hi. Do you think that God asks to join a specific organisation, when that same specific organisation teaches thing that are unBiblical? That doesn't make any sense. Will God ask you or me to join the Jehovah's Witnesses? Or the Mormons? No. Of course not. Because these organisation teach all kind of heresies. With Hillsong it's the same thing. Hillsong is also teaching very bad and unBiblical theology. And they have been teaching these things from the beginning of their existence.

@@bridgetjentzsch3226 hi Bridget. Good question. And I have difficulties where to start. For one thing, Hillsong almost never preaches about sin and repentance. And therefor their message about being saved is very much watered down. They invited (among others) T.J. Jakes and Bill Johnson to preach in their church(es). Jakes is a modalist (and therefor a rank heretic). Johnson is a Word of Faith preacher who teaches another Jesus and another gospel all together. That put Johnson and Jakes outside of true Christianity. But still, Hillsong let these people teach and preach in their churches. Hillsong preaches that it is always God's will that you are healed. And if you're not healed, it your own fault because you don't have enough faith. whereas the Bible teaches something entirely different. Preachers from Hillsong take Bible verses out of context and thus give it another meaning. In other words, they twist scripture to promote their own invented doctrines. They almost never properly exegete a Bible passage. They almost always apply a technique that is called "eisegesis". In other words, they read things into a text that isn't in the text at all. And in that way they change the original Biblical meaning. I listened to numerous sermons and teachings from Brian Houston. And he never properly explained any Bible verse or passage. He makes all Bible passages he preaches on, about you and me. Instead of about Jesus Christ. They teach that tithing is something a Christian must do. But in the New Covenant, tithing is done away with by Jesus fulfilling the law. And I could go on for a while. But I think you got the point. The question at the start and the proclamation at the end are utterly ignorant and self-righteous. The question was actually answered! The Bible, in both the OT and NT contain stories of someone's change of path when the surrounding circumstances changed. In fact, we are directed to make such changes. That does NOT negate what God has told you about entering that initial path.

Praise the Lord!!!! Finally accountability!!!!!

He built the church through hillsong, hired there stylist, he went from looking like a 1970s car salesman to looking like NEO in the matrix, and realized that there franchise agreement probably has some clause allowing termination. No more monthly check back to the corporate store. He is stoked, he is jumping for joy inside..

But the noble man , makes noble plans , and by noble deeds he stands !!!!

Lol hey he's my pastor. He and Judith have an eclectic style but they are themselves and don't pretend to be anything else. I can speak from personal experience of this church for a decade. The Crists are great people. You don't see either Hillsong pastors stroking away and losing money to do so. (He definitely lost any money raise din tithes from the last). We had a full house on Easter Sunday.

We have to be careful. David never raised his voice against king Saul. For he knew that accountability was for God alone to demand not men. One should just walk away if he needs to.

Except for his voice, he is unrecognisable here in 2022 to the man we saw in 2016!

If this guy isn’t discerning enough to sense there was a problem at Hillsong he should check himself and where he stands with Christ.

I agree with him but the ending stmt saying is anyone claims to have heard from God, they haven’t….so wrong because I have. I have twice in my life in darkness heard Christ whisper to me. It changed my life. So I declare in the name of Jesus that that stmt is wrong. Its like saying God did not speak to Moses or Abraham or others. No one on this Earth can tell me I did not hear Gods whispers…just because you did not.

God may have spoken to him to go with Hillsong but just for a season.

I have so much respect for what he said.
