Speakers in the series are given freedom to discuss any aspect of fantasy literature, broadly defined. Our aim is to honour J.R.R. Tolkien’s legacy by promoting, and contributing to, the study of fantasy.

It's striking that she's got pretty much the same theme as the speaker from the previous year - Tolkien and Lewis created fantasy of an immersive quality that has been lost in the recent decades' offerings, and the genre ain't what it used to be.

I am happy to be able to disagree that there isn't a lot of fantasy rooted in place, in where we come from, in our loses today, and fantasy that stimulates wonder. That's what I want as well, and there's a lot out there.

I bet it was glorious to be there to see and hear this lecture. But I've watched 5 minutes of this video and it hasn't been in focus once and I can't hear a word she's saying. Such a pity.

Yeah, my camera just refused to focus, I don't know why. I was so annoyed when I watched the footage back! As Austin Hackney it's easier to listen with headphones. You might also like to try the podcast which was recorded on a different mic pembrokemcr.com/tolkien/podcast/2016-lecture.mp3

It's so hard to understand what she's saying, I'd like to write down all the names she's listing but can't hear them well enough to work it out :(

Sorry the quality's bad. As others have said it's easier to hear with headphones. You might also want to try the podcast which might be a little clearer: pembrokemcr.com/tolkien/podcast/2016-lecture.mp3

Such poor audio quality that this is nothing but absolutely unintelligible blather. Sad.

In replies to above comments, there is a link to the podcast version, in which the audio quality is better.
