Terra Invicta Early Access Review
Ойындар
Terra Invicta reviewed in Early Access by Jon Bolding on PC.
There are brilliant ideas in the ambitious Terra Invicta, and a lot of fun to find for strategy game enthusiasts, but you need to be willing to drill down into sometimes-opaque and confusing mechanics to do it. The politics of its Earth layer are fun, if overwhelming, while the space layer is very cool on paper, but the two just don't gel in practice. When playing takes such a huge time investment of trial-and-error to see results, a recommendation has to come with big caveats until Terra Invicta has spent some more time in early access.

This is one of those games where, once you get past the UI, it becomes something truly extraordinary. Give it a chance, guys. There's really nothing quite like it out there.

@@Anu242Bis it's actually only 20$ where I'm from also the game do want you to play it, it just doesn't actually know how to make a UI that would fit for the overwhelming ammount of information you need to manage. They need to make Earth politics less of a problem at later stages so that you can focus on the main point of the game which is going to space and dealing with the aliens how you see fit.

I’ve had over 100 hours in this game (so far) and haven’t seen a single bug, at all.
It is common for early access games to lack a tutorial. Maybe they are hesitant to make tutorials for game mechanics when they have yet to nail down how exactly those game mechanics work. Of course doing tutorials for complicated games is always harder than for simple games. Though sometimes it is in fact because the tutorial is an after thought that the tutorial gets developed last.

Spending resources on a tutorial early in development usually just locks you into developed mechanics and gameplay, imagine having to rewrite the tutorial every time you make changes, and so wastes precious dev time. It's all about time juggling and so a tutorial is an afterthought because it has to be written after the game is in a finished and locked state. Just like you said. One might say lacking a tutorial at this stage is a terrible decision, but the game is still not out yet. The game content-wise is 90% finished from what I've read (might be wrong), so things like tutorials will be added in this last phase of development (in EA open beta). Besides, player feedback is incredibly important for making a proper tutorial.

Not really tho. TBP has zero (actually is FORMERLY) FTL, TI has wormholes. TBP puts xenocide as a must, TI has options to just destroy the wormhole or strike a deal with them; The antagonist aliens do not do this: They prefer chemical enslavement. TBP got the Light Speed Engine, TI does not. The only things barely resemble TBP in TI are the alien cult, the escape ending and the referenced quote when pausing.
