    I know houses built on a pad you trench all around but is it necessary on a house with a full basement because the back of the house is block and brick until you get to the main floor and not against the dirt like the front and Part of the sides. Thanks 😊.

    Regardless of construction (slab, basement or crawlspace) where the foundation ends and the yard begins the trenching and treating of the soil must be performed! It sounds like you may walk out of your basement onto a slab/patio....regardless the soil needs to be treated. If your foundation ends and concrete begins then the concrete must be drilled parallel with the back wall of the home and the termiticide must be injected into the soil under the attached slab. Block, brick or poured concrete walls make no difference, where the foundation ends is where soil begins even if that soil is covered by cement. -Dave Freedom Pest Services

    She said the liquid poured or rodded in trench makes it to the footer? In new England we have 8 foot foundation walls ( full basements) was she referring to a south Carolina style of construction

    Not true. You are allowed to flood the trench/ moat with addition termiticide if the footer depth is deeper than 1 foot. The maximum treatment depth is 4 feet. So in a case where the state has a minimum footer depth (due to frost line and building code) of 48+ inches you have to treat to the 48” mark. You accomplish this by increasing the volume from 4 gallons for every 10 linear feet to 16 gallons. We have basements in Sc too mostly only when it’s a sloping lot but we have them. The Termidor (and all termiticide) labels have this instructions in them. -Dave Freedom Pest Services

    @@freedompestservices1470 thank you so much The label does say 4 gallons for every 10 ft per foot but nobody has ever explained it the way you just did so in New England using four gallons for 10 linear feet with a full basement 8 ft foundation while we're just not be enough termiticide. Do you feel using 16 gallons? Would eventually make it to the footer on an 8 ft foundation wall??

  • @freedompestservices1470

    @@michaelperry4398 it’s doesn’t need to make it to the top of the footer when the footer is that deep. 48” of treatment depth is plenty to protect the home. Termites (typically) aren’t deeper than that. It’s about a termiticide barrier where they travel most. Which is always in damp soil. Soil deeper than 4’ is normally not damp enough for much termite travel. However, in 16 years I have found them one time under a basement slab which was 9’ deep. So there is an exception to every rule. We just aren’t allowed to treat deeper than 4’ unless activity is confirmed.

    Great description of how the baits work! Question- I had this exact bait system installed but also included liquid treatment. However they said they didn’t need to trench or drill into concrete around house either because they instead used a rod method. Does that sound right? Also, Can the baits actually attract termites toward your home?

  • @CR-by4fk

    @CR-by4fk

    Rod method is drilling into the concrete. I quoted a house where the customer poured concrete all around his his house up to the foundation. He had tile floors, had his wall open and termites had made it to the second floor. Sent pics to my manager and branch manager, and I work for a huge company. They asked me what I though, I said don't bid it because his entire family is in the construction trade. Potential customer was astonished I declined to bid. If we did it, 50K, he did it for $1500. Bait stations will not attract termite.

    @@CR-by4fk The rodding method has nothing to do with trilling and treating under concrete, Rodding is a soil treatment where a trench is NOT DUG! Instead of digging a trench, you stab into the soil with a 36" rod with a "star tip" which applies the chemical not only straight down but in a 360* pattern around the rod its self. Rodding is quite common but it is not the preferred method as there tends to be gaps in the soil where the termiticide did not reach due to the application method. This "Gap" is avoided when digging a trench and flooding the trench. Sub slab treatments are simply drilling and treating the void under the concrete. -Dave

    Someone is suppose to be doing termite treatment for my home and he is using "Taurus SC" around the perimeter of my home, not drilling the garage. This is what is proposed and is this good enough for a 3300 sq ft home? "Termite Treatment - Exterior & Crawl spaceTermite Treatment using Taurus SC- Trench and Treatment interior and exterior of crawlspace- Garage, front porch, and the walkway along the back of the house will be waived- Retreat warranty for $150 per year for the next five years" The other termite service using Termidor HE will do this:"Full termite treatment consisting of trenching the exterior and the crawlspace & drilling all foundation slabs and blocks for termiticide application. Includes damage and retreatment warranty for first year. Renewable upon completion of annual inspection."Which termite service do you recommend in the two examples above? Thanks!!

    Taurus, although the same active ingredient is not even comparable to Termidor....different polymers that are designed to bond it to the soil....use Termidor. Your state (DOA) has rules to treat each structure depending on the type of foundation. Also, the label has specific instructions. A provider skipping "mandatory treatment expectations" will try to force you to sign a "state waiver of minimum treatment expectations" if I were you I would demand Termidor SC or HE and ask that all slabs that block access to the soil touching the foundation walls be drilled and treated at 12" intervals or 18" if HE is being used. In my opinion trenching anything other than the foundation piers under the home is redundant since the exterior trench and Termidor is 8" away on the outside of the crawl space foundation walls. -Dave Freedom Pest Services

    I’m having terminex come wanting to place stations, should I? It’s $99 a month for 4 months then goes to $56 and they cover any damages from termites that may happen after they lay them. I am just wondering if this is something I should do myself and save all that money. I’m doing this as a preventative measure and have no active signs of termites. I live in the middle of Wisconsin and am well inclined with anything with instructions. In your opinion, should I move forward with the service? Or do it myself? Thanks!

    The Sentricon stations can not be done legally by a unlicensed home owner. Dow agro science owns them and tracks them and they must be installed by a registered pest control company. Plus you’re renting them for ever. The long term cost is astronomical. Just have a full liquid treatment done with Termidor and forget about it for 12-15 years.

    What you've said about renting the traps is sort of new news to me. Around here, in the Gulf Coast/ Greater New Orleans area as well as the Houston/Clear Lake/League City area, they stay in the ground. I am a Real Estate investor, and I flip houses. A lot of the houses in these areas have these in the ground and when we buy the houses, we have never seen or had any company come out and try to remove the traps. I always try to make a note of where they are located for the new home owner, or if we have to remove one for construction/remodel purposes, I try to replace them in the same spot or area, and if not, then we move them. I have had pest control companies actually give me a discount on any new contracts because there are already traps in the ground, and all they have to do is check and replace/replenish the bait sticks inside, and don't need to actually install any bait traps, and if they do, they only charge me for the new ones. Then the contract is for one year and it goes with the new owner. Around here, some of the guys that I have used have also used both the chemical barrier next to the house and then the bait traps. But I use Talstar myself and pour/spray that into the ground as a barrier on my own house.

    There are 2 different bait stations in our industry. Black/grey (advance) and Green (sentricon) both have the availability to have monitoring canisters inside or a cartridge with active ingredient inside. If they are leaving the ones behind with the active ingredient then they are breaking the DOA / label law. The label is very clear “monitored annually or removed” and I promise you if they aren’t paying for the service the stations are not being monitored and must be removed. Before starting my company 5 years ago I used to send technicians out to retrieve the old ones every time the customer didn’t pay the renewal. But much to your point, if you have a company that is assuming a prior company’s treatment and accepts future liability for someone else’s job then either the new contract doesn’t cover damage repairs or the owner / operator is not very well versed in this industry’s business financials.
