First terminator nailed the future war scenes. People were starving, only moving at night, constant chaos, low morale, no hope and on the brink of extinction. This version just seems cheesy. People cheering, Reese and Conor are well fed and jacked, no fear. God I wish someone could create a good terminator future war movie that truly captures the despair and hell it’s meant to be

The best part of the future war scenes from the first Terminator was when Reese and another chick were crawling through the rubble at night trying to disable a tracked HK and every time they moved from cover to cover they'd get shot at. The brief second his buddy exposed herself she immediately got blown away by the machine, that brief look of "dammit" from Reese, no words said but his expression conveys all the pain you need to know. First movie still can't be topped to this day.

_Terminator: Genisys_ should've literally been solely about this future war. Have it be about them gathering every bit of Intel and resource they'd need for a full-on assault of Skynet's command hub and when they attack in the last 3rd, it ends with them smashing the defense grid only to find out they sent the T-800 into the past and let the final shot be Kyle in the middle of time jumping. After all, the word "Genesis" means "beginning" or "origin". So, this should've been the origin of the franchise that would've brought it full circle.

@@aleksanderolbrych9157 Honestly, no. _Terminator: Salvation_ may have had a story that focused on the future war, but that doesn't mean it was good or "decent". It lacked heart, the characters (with the exception of maybe Kyle Reese) were pretty one-note, and while I occasionally like movies with a bleach bypass look, the movie's way of doing it mixed with the horrible lighting made it look ugly. The only reason you say it's "decent" is out of spite for _Genisys_ and _Dark Fate._ And honestly, of the three, _Dark Fate_ is the most competent (and at this point, I don't care that they killed off John at the beginning of that movie; they killed him off at the end of _Genisys_ and they initially planned to kill him off at the end of _Salvation_ before that ending got leaked and had to change it).

However, while I am at work and don't have the time to go into full detail, I sorta' disagree on Salvation - After all, after all those years, it did grow quite a cult following and I can see why. Sure, the characters were flat, but the vision and execution of a hopeless future war was rock solid and a great foundation for a new trilogy. I can easily see it spawning better sequels had the production company not rolled over. And yeah, Dark Fate probably was the most competently executed, but it was it which to me felt a bit heartless out of all the things, and had to point exactly why. It had the spirit of the originals, but it also kinda' seemed like it hated them for some reason given how some story beats developed. And no, I'm not any "anti-woke" manchild who throws the TV through the window each time a woman appears on screen.

4:26 I think John felt this way in the first 2 films. I believe that John was cursed with the knowledge that time-travel was predestinated. That it needed to be only Kyle to go back, despite knowing that he was his father. That the Terminator who would give the information to Sarah about Skynet's creation needed to have only that information (which I bet John did personally), despite knowing that such info would only ensure its creation. He had to resist the temptation to try and alter anything, knowing that he could make things worse.

Then maybe the consolidation of most of earth´s resources and possibly growing in a world wide scale massive factory. Then launching ships to space to mine the asteroids, grow a few bases on the solar system. Skynet would also keep on its developing of astounishing research, I mean in 40ish years it developed time travel tech, imagine what it would develop in another 40, or 100. It would grow in inteligence that we could never imagine in some ways and develop many true sci-fi techs, maybe faster than light ones. It could go after another solar system and then another and another, but maybe Skynet´s goal is not to destroy all humans but all life (seeing in Terminator Resistance, the video game) and it would go on and destroy all life on Titan for example, and go and destroy all life in Alpha Centauri, and go until the point it found, maybe another civilization. But it would be a very powerful one, because the tech that Skynet creates in just a few years is scary...

After so many attempts after T2, I think its safe to do a hard reboot. Make a new face of the franchise and create a new structured narative again. And yes, please have something that focuses on the war itself. I was excited for what Salvation could offer after T3 felt like I had watched the same move three times over, until 4's plot focused less on conflict and more of a walking journey with some cheesey moments. The other thing, use practical and puppet whenever possible. T2 opeing of the skull crusher is so eerie and good compared to all this CG. Real robots always look better, C-3PO is another example of that.

Connor sends Kyle, then one of soldiers says that they found a pack of non-activated Terminators. John checks them and notices the one who almost became a father to him.
