    At 0:44, you can really see Arnold's tolerance to pain as he rips his actual eye out and sheds only a single tear. Incredible dedication and commitment to his performance.

    It is a great job, but I think the "artificial" problem is in how the animatronic moves, not in how it looks, if it could recreate something separate from the original movement, perhaps it would be better, only in some scenes, for example when it has the towel in his hand and he removes it from his face, and then when he looks in the mirror, those scenes look "false" due to the forced movement of the animatronic, I think he could use deepfake on his face, and he would achieve a more natural arnold effect young.

    Really good effort! As others have said - The eye is the key flaw in an otherwise well done remaster. The eye size could be a tiny bit bigger, but I think the main issue is actually the material. It is far too white and you could have relied more on the shadows of the scene to mask it further. Similarly to the overly chrome terminator in the computer chip factory scene - I think your main area of improvement is the materials area. Reduce reflectivity and rely more on ambient diffuse lighting to help fit it into the scene.

    This is actually really impressive, and it does look greatly improved over the original. My only suggestion would be that the eye looks a little too... "vibrant," I guess would be the word. It's a little too clean and bright. It might be something as simple as just tracking a translucent dark mask over it so it doesn't "pop" as much. But other than that, it's excellent work!

  • @shaolinwisdom
    @shaolinwisdom3 жыл бұрын

    Great job. Excellent. It's eerie how just little bit more life-like it is. The mixing of SFX and animatronics. Giving it a new life and looking more like Arnold. Although in the original, I have to say that. How 'fake' or unnatural the animatronic looked when he's removing his eyeball actually speaks so loudly to the audience that it's like more disturbing. All I know is as a kid that scene weirded me out because it was so unnatural and unusual looking that even though I told myself "it's a doll, it's fake" in my mind it was like "it looks that way because the robot inside him is unreal and not human.

    I know how painstaking this must’ve been - I’m honestly blown away by how much I didn’t realise you had done on first viewing. Thecompositing & match moving is top notch. As other people have said, you were hampered by how the animatronic moved & the skin texture of the original model - & the uncanny valley being such a spectacularly high & unattainable bar, this was always gonna be a heartbreakingly tough assignment - even for ILM or Weta. And given that these days it would be a thousand times easier for Arnie to wear a few dots in his actual face & paint the digital eye in than the way around you have had to fix it, I think you’ve done a stellar job. Naysayers in the comments honestly have NO clue how impossibly hard this was to even attempt. Amazing effort dude. 🫡

    @@hexogramd8430 it's all subjective of courses but practical effects don't suffer the effect to the same degree. It's *real* even if it's not human, it's a physical thing in space. CGI is just data.

    May i make a suggestion? When humans wipe things away or out of their eyes their other one naturally closes and or at least blinks. Neither the original effect or this version do that. Bottom line this is leaps and bounds an improvement over the original but a tweak here and there could really sell the seamlessness of the effect. Great work. Love it! Lightstorm or ILM should hire you!

    Je crois que parce que aujourd’hui on est habitué à "spotter" du faux CGI, il est difficile de dire que c’est meilleur ainsi. Par contre, à l’époque où plus de spectateurs étaient habitués à spotter les mannequins, ça aurait vraiment paru comme une amélioration. Ça reste vraiment difficile de recréer un visage photoréaliste en 3D

    A very nice effort. If I could say the main problem with the puppet head is the undamaged eye. The eyelid is to bulky and out of shape and you obviously recognize that in your version. But maybe took it to far. I think if you went for a less is more approach it could come out better. Just thin and reshape the eyelid a bit imo and don't do any work to the cheek. The pupil of the original eye looks a little big, maybe just keep what's there but shrink it a bit. Just my thoughts, appreciate your effort that's a lot of dedicated work

Although, beyond the eyebrows someone else already mentioned, the white part of the eye feels a little too bright to me, also he doesn't seem to have eyelids and eyelashes (though I guess making eyelashes realistic must be quite hard). I always loved the nuance that after he was done with his minor surgery, he checked his hair. I think it illustrates subtly but quite well, what goes along with his mission, he is an infiltrator. It's his job to blend in. though I suppose there's not much you can do when half of your hair is singed off in an explosion. As much as I loved Arnold in this role, I would have loved to have seen Lance henriksen in the role, someone smaller and more average in appearance having incredible strength. Which, for the most part, we got in Terminator 2.
