I don't know if she was born in Lima but she lived in Tomayquichua near Huánuco where you can see the house she is believed to have lived in as well as her carriage. The house has been well restored.

Great performance by Berganza! I recall seen Frederica von Stade do this hilariously for some "Gala" broadcast on PBS. I'm surprised I can't find it on You Tube!

Berganza is simply the greatest mezzo coloratura soprano... in my opinion. She never overdid it, but was so exciting. Horne had the technique but you had to like the voice. Baker could do it, but I wouldn’t call her a coloratura mezzo.
