ive turned wrenches....for a living...for 40 years and i say this is a great vid. one idea is clear packing tape on the shift shafts before seal install. great vid.

This is an EPIC video and easy to follow with 100% success. I just did the 4:1 gear swap and followed the video without any issues. There is only one thing(and a few tips) I found NOT in the video, and that is right at 20 minutes into the video. At 20 minutes in the video, you will see the rear output shaft inner bearing on the table. The first question is, how did I miss taking it off? I didn't. At 2:56 you will see the bearing attached, but never removed. So what to do? I placed the gears on the case where the oil pan goes and used the case as a part to brace the gears and "gently" removed the bearing from the shaft. Another tip is when assembling the input shaft as seen at at 19:05 minutes in the video, a large socket is used in the video. I don't have that socket, so what I did is again used the case, I put the part on the case, leaving the shaft space to slide though unobstructed. Worked PERFECTLY! Applying heat. I don't do it and was able to gently tap the bearing on without any issues. Its a good tip, but it will work without the heat too. Shift rod tip: When installing the shift rods, pay attention to eh video, there are mall parts inside the housing that move side to side. If you don't have the parts aligned correctly, it will appear the the rods are stuck. I had one rod rotated the wrong direction and thought it as toast. But, I stopped and followed the directions again and got the small internal parts to move to the correct location. Just do it in sequence and it will work.... go slow! Checking shift patterns at 32:07 is great to see the internals and function. I accidentally had one of the shift rods in the wrong position to start with. So before moving on from installing the shift rods at 12:02, try to remember to have them in the right location. Tap them outward. But don's worry if you have them in the wrong spot to tap them in to test the shifting at 32:07. I attached the the twin sticks and used the leverage to confirm everything worked. The issue is, you don't have enough leverage to pull the shift rods by hand. Good work TeraFlex! Thanks for the great video and awesome gears.

When I worked in a shop years ago we would put the bearing races in the freezer for half an hour and they'd almost fall in by themselves. Great video, I'm might try this at home thanks to you.

awesome I've been daunting this job, and you guys made it look easy. even showed that i can fix my shift rail seals without ripping anything apart XD flipped 300s are a pain lol.

I used a two prong gear puller rental tool from Advance Auto to get the rear yoke off nice and straight and a three prong puller with the hooks facing outward to push through the rear shaft out through the bearing. It was on there so damn tight that the BFH didn't even phase it. The rear shaft shift fork was the donor of the sprinkles so that rear bearing was likely the culprit.

HI TeraFlex, great video. This give's me some confidence on my rebuild. On the shift rails, what size was the washer installed with the Detent balls? Also other threads It said the washer should go below the spring not the ball? does this matter?

This is probably a stupid question. What is 2wd Low, and how does one get it if there is only 2wd high, 4wd high, and 4wd low indicated in your transfer case shift selector? 32:40

in time 19:00 you work on main bearing. i need that cast or part number. i cant find it in my country shop's.
