Tents Overrun San Francisco's Tenderloin

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the homeless in San Francisco have taken over the sidewalks in the Tenderloin District in close to 400 tents donated by nonprofit organizations. The purpose of the tents is to allow the poor and homeless to "shelter in place" as protection against the virus. But the effect is to block the sidewalks so that permanent residents, families and children cannot safely get to where they need to go - not to mention the danger to people in wheelchairs. On May 4th, 2020, Hastings College of the Law, the Tenderloin Merchants and Property Association, and several individuals filed a law suit against the City and County of San Francisco - in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The purpose is to clean the streets and make them safe again. The Tenderloin District is being used as a containment zone for undesirable behavior that would not be tolerated in any other part of the City.

The people living on the sidewalk do not want housing, job, skill or anything else. They want to eat for free, lay around all day and do their drugs with their buds and steal anything they can for more drugs. Go and offer just one a job, you will get a bid fat NO. The ones who need help and WANT it are in the shelters, living away from this, folks in a tent or sleeping in cars:( Probably safe to say the sidewalk bunch are mostly mentally ill also. Homelessness, drug addiction and mental illness, its a sad state of affairs. Some of the greatest minds in the world can't figure this out:(

I guess tents are the only affordable "housing" in San Francisco.

Yeah, maybe, 'stronger then you think'. Wow, what a worthless place. It should just be torched and flushed down, never to be remembered.

Since this video has changed the City had taken a baby step to fix the aesthetics only. Specifically the large homeless encampment has been moved away from Civic center and there are now security guards who work 7 am to 7 pm to move the homeless away from the Central Tenderloin. Of course, at night they all return. This is how democracy works: band-aid solutions only

Not from this city- they're too synchronized and sober-sounding! Hippies walk around strumming out-of-tune guitars, yelling at their pit bull terriers, and punching through car windows to steal garbage!

Mental illness and drugs. Poor or no education, lack of a supportive social network. All kinds of reasons for this hopelessness. It would take an army of do-gooders with lots of money to even begin to turn this situation around. "Just keep it out of my neighborhood," is what most people say. By extension that is what most Americans say when they see scenes like this on the streets of San Francisco.
