Pareciera ser el caso, pero en estas partes del mundo, donde el clima es tan inclemente que en época seca la bruma se ve casi como en las escenas aquí retratadas. Recuérdese que la Ciudad de México está entre los paralelos 19° y 20° Norte, casi en la misma latitud que otras metrópolis como Mumbai, Hanoi y Honolulu, todas abajo del Trópico de Cáncer. En ese aspecto, aquí si no hubo dolo. Donde sí hubo fue en el guión, con mucha alevosía y ventaja.

Con el potencial que tiene una historia así, y siempre este plagada de actores mediocres y manejo de cámara simplista. Pocas cosas hay más épicas que la conquista de Mesoamérica.

Ni los pueblos americanos eran tan atrasados, ni los españoles del siglo XVI tan avanzados como para imponerse en una proporción de mil a uno. Hay tantos episodios épicos en ese periodo. Que si lo contara cualquier otra nación, se contaría como la nación más gloriosa de la historia. Eso de aplicar "naciones coloniales" a España es porque no te han contado bien la historia. Marx, cuando hablaba de imperialismo y colonialismo, tomaba al imperio ingles como modelo, y a sus competidores como Francia, Alemania, Bélgica, etc. España es otra cosa distinta, de un periodo anterior. E incluso Marx reconoce que pocas naciones son tan mal estudiadas y entendidas como España.

@@beep1534 There's some bias, first of all, the translator, there should be two of them, one is Spaniards saved from wreckage accident that could speak Mayan, the other one is a Mayan petty princess named as La Malinche to translate Nahuatl into Mayan to relay the messages between Hernan's war band and various chieftain/faction in Meso-America within Aztec's realm, of course along with those vengeful against Tenochtitlan.

When Hernan Cortes and some of his soldiers climbed the "Templo Mayor" and entered inside the two shrines one to Huitilipotchle (wee-tzee-lay-poach)(G-d of war) painted red and the other for Tlaloc (tah-lah-loak) (G-d of rain) is the blue painted shrine he described the walls were literally plastered with dried human blood and the smell was overwhelming! At a time when Europeans didn't bathe and the stink of everyday life that's saying alot!!! Huitzilipochle was depicted as a humming bird and the brother of the dismembered female G-d depicted as the flat stone disc at bottom of "Templo Mayor" stairs. Can't remember how to spell her name?

This show had so much promise but i was terribly dissapointed... They make the spaniards look as epic and genious warriors and the aztecs dumb, only reason they conquered them was because they became allied with other regional warlords that did their dirty work for them, and smallpox wiped out most of the aztec armies as well. EDIT . Thanks for your valuable opinions folks, i want to make it clear that I never denied the cunning of Cortéz, i was emphasizing how the greatness of the Mexica´s engineering, technology from a well run huge city is not shown, Tenochtitlan looks like a big town rather than a great canal city with entire districts and symmetric streets and canal layouts, with a walled citadel and defensive bridges, as a commenter well said, this show takes inspiration from the Conquistadores and forgets about the Mexica.

its a confusing matter, The Spainish did not set out from spain as the typical european kingdom but hardened by the reconquista and a rather crusadist form of christianity. The Aztecs or the triple alliance at the time of cortez expedition was already cracking with one out the three cities starting to rebel but even then the Aztecs were still formidable and Spainish were absolutely at the mercy of the Aztecs even with all the advantages they had but do not mistake spain at this time was just out of the reconquista and have a professional army which battled it way through italy, france and the new world.@@edas1315

Los españoles se estima que eran entre 1200 y 1800 cuando entraron en la ciudad, los que realmente mataron a toda alma fueron los indígenas que iban con los Españoles por la rabia que sentían, habían estado mucho tiempo temiendo a los aztecas y sus tradiciones, cuando Cortés entró en la ciudad vió como algunos incluso se querían comer a los aztecas y el fue el que dijo basta, que no habría más sacrificios, todo esto está registrado, otra cosa es que tú lo desconozcas, los indigenas que acompañaban a los Españoles se estima cerca de los 200 mil, usa ahora la lógica.

Y el hecho de que los investigadores pudieron encontrar evidencia que demostraba lo contrario en los números, y en las armas usadas. O las diferentes versiones de los que acompañaban a Pizarro. Pero igual, supongo que nunca sabremos con exactitud las cosas en lugares donde no quedaron sobrevivientes, que pudieran contar su versión de la historia. Aunque si es verdad que tenían muchos enemigos, pero en la historia siempre trataban de no contar eso a sus reyes, debido a que pondría en conflicto el trato que se podría tener con ellos. Los mismos historiadores decían que tenían una buena civilizacion, lo único malo eran los rituales. Sobre todo por el hecho de que en las culturas como las Mayas, a pesar de que existía la esclavitud no era algo permanente para todos, si se completaban logros uno podría dejar de ser esclavo, y en los aztecas los hijos de los esclavos nacían libres. A diferencia de la esclavitud de occidente, donde cuando uno era esclavo, moría siendo esclavo, y los hijos de esclavos también eran esclavos y eran enviados a minas que tenían una profundidad donde nunca saldrían. Y tomo tiempo abolir la esclavitud de ese tipo. Supongo que cada cultura, ya sea azteca, maya, o de los europeos tenían cosas buenas y malas. Lo uni que no me gustó de la historia es cuando ellos creen que fue el todo poderoso el que les guió a una tierra donde había oro, por que eso también contradice las creencias que tenían, haciendo referencia a cuando Cristóbal Colón les aviso de que habían tierras nuevas.

Todos los indígenas que apoyaron a los Castellanos recibieron recompensas y muchas tierras (en especial para los Tlaxcaltecas), tierras que la Corona de Castilla le prohibió a los Castellanos habitar y se les dio el derecho de fundar cualquier ciudad que quisieran.

Por haber masacrado a los valientes vencidos, por haber destruido su religión y sus costumbres, en nombre de mis antepasados , pido PERDÓN. @@jesusgonzalez-acton8045 Esta gente es indigenista, pintan a los pueblos originarios de América como si fueran unos héroes perfectos y a los españoles como conquistadores malvados sedientos de oro, cuando la historia real es muy distinta y no hay buenos ni malos, pues no es una película. Aparte es bastante ridículo pedir perdón en nombre de los antepasados, como si nosotros tuviésemos algo que ver con las acciones que realizaron.

@@FranciscoCastillo-bx3rf What you say is nonsense. Nobody says that. Nobody except racists regard the mesoamericans as if they were anything less than or greater than human. The very fact that the entire written historical record in mesoamerica was completely obliterated is proof enough that the Spanish WERE the bad guys. You can't even imagine what a catastrophe that is. An independently invented literary tradition in the region going back thousands of years was just completely destroyed as if it never existed at all. No matter how much you clutch your pearls about religious violence, you will never convince anthropologists and archeologists to stop resenting the Spanish for depriving the entire world of that precious irreplaceable data, and the insight into human societies it would have granted.

You can't even imagine what a catastrophe that is.”* That is not true, Mesoamerican literature wasn’t completely obliterated as you say, some texts were erased, but today thousands of texts of Mesoamerican literature and history are preserved, (both Maya and Mexica) and the fact that texts have been deleted does not mean that the Spaniards were the bad guys 100%, both committed atrocities and both have done morally questionable actions. Wiping out culturally valuable literature and history is a catastrophe, sacrificing over 20,000 people in one day as the Aztecs did is also a catastrophe. I’m not talking about religion; I’m talking about the objective facts that happened. Yes, the Spanish did bad things and destroyed part of the culture of Mesoamerica, however, the people of Mesoamerica also destroyed cultures in ancient times, the Aztecs for example made the flowery wars to bring captives for their sacrifices because their society was based on war and sacrifice, the Mayans almost always had internal wars between their city-states, the Teotihuacan burned their own city in a civil war, destroying all the written legacy of their culture and like this there are many more examples that show the bad side of the prehispanic people. We cannot judge the Spaniards as evil murderers and the Mesoamericans as the poor victims of the case when it wasn’t like that, both did bad things, it’s not like a movie where you have a villain and a protagonist, we are talking about history which is real life.

Está bien perdonar y pedir perdón ( si alguien siente necesidad de ello)por sucesos ocurridos hace 500 años. Pero casi todos los que descienden de indígenas mesoamericanos sus ancestros no son aztecas sino aquellas tribus y pueblos que se aliaron con los españoles para derrotarlos, por cierto, que fueron la mayoría ya que los aztecas los tenían bien cabreados a casi todos a causa de esas costumbres de sacrificar personas incluso bebés para que llueva o el sol siga saliendo. Fueron aquellos pueblos los que vencieron a los aztecas y lograron así liberarse de su yugo. Lástima que ese detalle tan importante no se vea en el vídeo. Un saludo

That was Cholula in that scene, not Tenochtitlan. However, Tenochtitlan itself more than eclipsed the walls of Rome in size.

Aurelian Walls in Rome covered more than 1400 hectares or 14 square kms and most of that terrain inside walls was highly urbanized while in the case of Tenochtitlan, the entire two major islands (including Tlatelolco that was not strictly Tenochtitlan) covered 1200 hectares/12km2, so already less than Rome walls area, but additionally Tenochtitlan-Tlatelolco didn't covered those 7 km2 but just about 7 km2 in the contiguous centre of both islands while the borders were non urbanized rural fields. So already half of Rome area. Additionally Tenochtitlan had a extremely spread urbanism compared with Rome, with hundreds of squares and open areas, very wide streets and rarely any residential buildings with more than 1 or 2 floors, while streets were much narrower in Rome outside few zones, blocks of appartments with several floors were common, the entire city was more packed and covered the almost totality of those 14 km2 so besides the difference in area, Rome was for sure several times more dense. The usual estimates for Tenochtitlan population circa 1500 are 100,000-200,000 inhabitants while the most usual estimate for imperial Rome it's over 1 million.

@@universoplural8828 Nope, you screwed that up somehow. I just traced the standard archeological map (González Aparicio) in google earth--- the Tenochtitlan+Tlatelolco continuously bounded region alone is at least 1350 hectares using conservative boundaries for the extent of the main part of the city. It's honestly much closer than I was expecting, and that's excluding the surrounding island sectors that aren't continuously connected to the core. Way more than close enough to count as "eclipsing" in my book. If you factored in the slightly disconnected areas of the city it would be no contest. I had no idea 1 million people lived in Rome, that's pretty crazy if true.

La mayoría de las culturas han demostrado tener un límite en cuanto al salvajismo. Por eso es que aunque los sacrificios humanos eran practicados por muchas civilizaciones, había cierto control. Una cultura que haya disfrutado de esto y lo vea como algo rutinario va más allá de los límites de lo que es humano, se vuelve inhumana y merece ser acabada

No era que lo "disfrutaran", eran ritos religiosos. Aquí no hay ni buenos ni malos, los españoles también realizaron masacres y violaciones a mujeres indígenas, solo que de eso no se habla.

Pero una cosa es que se realice en el fragor de una conquista o de una guerra a que se haga con la cabeza fría y de manera sistemática. Y estos pueblos sí disfrutaban de esto hasta el punto de practicar canibalismo
