Tennis KICK SERVE Lesson - Overcoming Second Serve NERVES

Спорт

A kick serve is the foundation behind every player's consistency when holding serves. Without a good kick serve, you'll either hit too many double faults or make it too easy for opponents to attack the return. In this lesson, I talk about how to work on kick serves and get over second serve nerves. [more]👇

    How many coaches/teaching pros are watching these videos? Lots of us, and we are using it in our professions...not to mention the multitude of players "finally" improving because you have this content to learn from....but how many of us are supporting this channel financially...while it is supporting us financially. Even as an ATP Coach and 41 years of coaching tennis, I only come Here for expanding my knowlege of tennis. I am not affiliated with Karue or this channel.....but I joined as a Patreon supporter because Karue's video, knowledge, etc. are worth more than $20 a month!. All of you should do the same. Let's support our profession and Karue!

    Hi Kent. I can’t express how much this comment means to us. Thank you very much for the support on patreon. The goal is to work on videos full time and make better and better lessons but financially the channel isn’t quite there yet. Any support (from using links, patreon, winners circle, downloading our training guides) is GREATLY appreciated by gui and I. I want to continue to learn from the greats and living of the channel would unlock so much potential for videos! Thank you very much!!!

    I LOVE Karue and his content is so player experience focused. Practical real life tennis coaching. I have felt this way before regarding a first tennis instructor I had. Then I thought the next twnnis coach I had made me improve leaps and the first one didn't do much. Now I believe that we take experience from everyone and that there is a point in amateur tennis coaching that the coach simply used all of his usual drills and corrections so many times that he is kind of frozen in place and we no longer can benefit from lessons as much. Need to move to new teachers and if they are not good intended and thoughtful teacher, the same will happen again, but this time sooner. Because you already have some experience. The professional tennis player mindset, tools, experience and training they have had will translate to his abilities to help us. Much more. Ofcourse that not all people have the abikity to teach in ways other can understand and there is an empathy and personality issue too. But Karue is awesome.

    I had the exact same problem last year. But with tons of work of perfecting my kick serve and working on the mental part I went from double faulting like 15 times per set to 1-2 times per set.

  • @TheJJZeeman
    @TheJJZeeman Жыл бұрын

    I decided to make the kick serve my primary serve and really work on it. Now, I hit my second serve just like I hit my first serve - no difference in stance or toss or power - and I double fault WAY less! Every once in a while I go for the bomb flat first serve just to catch my opponent unprepared.

    Hi coach Karue! I'v been strugling with my kick serve for a long time. One little tip you gave in this video finally unlocked my kick serve! When you said let the ball drop a little bit more after the toss, it maked the swing path work properly. Now i have the correct way to achieve a decent kick serve. Thank you, so much! I'm from Brazil.

    Awesome video Karue! So much value packed into this short video, worth watching several times over the next few weeks and months. I find that some days my topspin serve is working well, other days I seem to lose the "feel" when I'm tense or tired. A good kick serve needs lots of physical and mental energy! On the bad days my kick serve seems to hit the top of the net or just plop gently into the opponent's service box, and I think it's a combo of the toss being too far back and not enough racket head acceleration. On good days I feel hungry to hit a vicious kick serve, with plenty of relaxed aggression. Thanks again Karue for your fantastic videos.

My game has improved exponentially from your videos and this kick serve video is gonna come in clutch bc I can serve over 100 and place my serve well, but my serve reliability drops when I have to hit a second serve 😅. I’ve been playing tennis for almost 50 years. I play 4-5 times a week now as a rec player and have watched pretty much every KZread tennis channel. Today I stumbled upon yours and I immediately related to your second serve ‘yips.’ Your teaching method is in my top 2 KZread tennis channels! You’re authentic, down to earth and easy to understand and (listen) to! Too many KZreadrs talk and talk and are just boring. You’re the best and I’m glad I found you this morning! Now I’m leaving to the club to kick those second serves without worrying about my partner morning if I miss…because I’m not going to!!!! :) thanks!

    For me it was staying sideways and keeping tossing arm up longer . I knew to stay sideways but couldn’t. A mental reminder that worked for me was to try to kick my back leg out to the side fence. Really helped. My last 4 sets I’ve only double faulted twice. Used to average probably 0.5-1 every service game

    Two recommendations that worked for me. Right now I'm trying to reduce the number of DF, and because of that I'm using only kick serves on my matches, obviously at a club level. This have a good impact in my mind, because you start to feel secure on your serves, and that have a good impact on your baseline shots too, you feel confident with your game in general. The second recommendation is to use first serves when you get a position like 40-0 or 40-15, so you don't forget about the preassure of the second serve at all, and to remember how good and important is to get some easy points with a good first serve. It sound like simple things to do, but trust me, in tennis sport the simple things are the hardest.

    Back in the day when I used to compete (low-level), I remember reverting to second serve only when I was struggling. It kind of gave me confidence mentally because I felt I had 2 chances to deliver a high success rate serve. The downside was that I had to put up with those grueling second-serve rallies all the time.

    Hello Karue. Great video . One of the best . Straight to what is really important and without magical tricks that often don't work. My kick serve works fine , but some days it tends to fall a little long. I suspect it could be my stance , or maybe early shoulder rotation . I will examine that today. Massive difference in the technical application of the service between the college days and now it’s good to see how loose the wrist is. How much more functional your racket head is with your wrist going into adduction/flexion. Instead of staying at extension, you can see the massive difference in the racket head speed.

    Thank you for this video. I have a good kick serve when I can get my toss right. The kick serve is the most unforgiving when you have any deviation from a good toss. I have been struggling to get a reliable toss. I'm close but every now and then the toss gets erratic. Typically, when it goes bad, the ball is too far in front and doesn't arc back enough. I then have to remember all of my check points to get it right again. I'd like to reach a point where I don't have to think about the toss at all. You seem to have a great toss, how about a video on your technique?

  • @MyTennisHQ

    @MyTennisHQ

    tricky thing. I haven’t thought about toss in a long time tbh. But in my experience coaching, most of toss mistakes comes from rushing the motion. Players flick the ball up instead of calmly tossing the ball. Try to slow your tempo down a bit on the way up

    Thanks for the tips! I've had some success lately experimenting with where i make contact with the ball. For some reason I feel like I'm getting more action when brushing over the top of the ball (making contact directly at 12 or 1 on a clock). Do you have any thoughts on this? I feel like when I brush up on the ball in the traditional 6 to 12 way it works but its a little loopier with less action.

It is recommended to first master the flat and slice service before moving on to Kick serve... if I don't master those, specially my slice, should I try to apply the technique in this video? Or is better to continue working on my slice as a second serve? 2. In a second serve, should I always aim to the center to avoid an error or missing wide?? This happens to me often...

    Thanks for this video, very helpful! But I have one question, I didn't see you talk about the actual wrist whip that happens right before the contact. I feel like many coaches forget to address this detail which I believe is very crucial to the kick serve specifically. Same type of wrist whip motion that happens in a forehand but applied in a serve. I actually see it in this video, how you whip your wrist at contact point and freeze it right after contact.

    Amazing lesson. some serves on deuce side would be nice too. It feels quite un-natural to make topspin on deuce to me, all the time.

    Hey there. Really enjoy your videos and I think this comment does not match this kind of video. But I just wanna know what racket you can recommend for an spin player that want a bit power in his shots but don’t want too little control. Often I play bit defensive like djokovic. What rackets could you recommend. Your answer would be very very helpful Ty! I currently play the head speed pro which I really like but is is bit too less power and not enjoyable spin. I maybe want a 98inch racket.
