I don't recall where I read it but apparently Chris was REALLY nervous about performing at the awards show and was going to decline. Justin encouraged his good friend Chris that he should do it. And then Chris said he would but only if Justin would join him. He agreed and they made history. Amazing performance. 🔥🔥

I'm not familiar with the Stapleton's work but great observation. That lady can really sing and should be commended for gracefully adding her talent to the piece, filling out a full and rich sound without detracting from the primary vocals in this song. I'll have to check for her solo work and compositions where she is the lead.

That was probably the greatest CMA performance still to this day, watching it live that night was insane. The thing was that was really Chris Stapleton's first big debut, he wasn't very well known before that, and that launched him into the stratosphere. He and JT are good friends and they have another song you check out called "Say Something" it's awesome. Most people don't give JT credit for his Blues side, but he has it and he knows how to use it. Great reaction to wake us up this day!! ❤

It’s one of the greatest performances on an awards show and a great story of how it came to happen. Chris told his wife that he was a little nervous about doing this show and she told him to invite one of his friends to perform with him. The reason this is so good is not just because of the Chris Stapleton/JT combo, it's all those musicians on the stage too. It's like the perfect talent storm, a bunch of true musicians just jamming away having the time of their lives. It's like they're all just in someone's house. It's just pure music , without ego. Also, Chris Stapleton's voice is like butter, it just melts me, but when he sings with Morgane....it's no wonder they fell in love, that's pure soul food.

It wasn't annoying to hear you enjoying this - it's fun when people discover it for the first time and you get to share in the energy and disbelief over what a once-in-a-lifetime performance this was. Lightning in a bottle! Chris' "coming out" party, if you will. This is when he came to the notice of the public even though he'd been around, in two bands and writing songs for others for years. Now if we could just get Morgane her own "coming out" party - I would buy separate albums with her as the lead, as well as Chris'!

I think it's funny that there's another iteration of "new country." New country referred to Garth Brooks, Big & Rich, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, et al, back in the 90s. However, what is happening now is undeniably different than what was going on then, adding in elements of hip-hop, metal, more pop, etc. I'm not opposed, but they are different categories. It really depends on how old you are what "new country" means. LOL. I think Johnny Cash, Hank, Willie and Waylon would disagree that this is THE new country. LOLOL. It's all good. Life evolves. I happen to love Hardy with his metal influence mixed with country. The rest of it ... meh. So much sounds the same. They all sound like Hardy. LOL

The one thing I love about the country music awards show, is that they do not discriminate about enjoying the music. They've had famous singers from other genres do collaborations (like this one), and the ENTIRE audience always knows the song! They are so supportive of all the music, not just country/bluegrass/folk. And you can look out at the audience, and almost every shot at least one person is singing along completely lost in the music (this song they were riffing so hard that no one could keep up with them, so they just watched the greatness that was unfolding in front of them. They knew it was a performance of a lifetime).

From the first televised time to right now and all 10, 000 times in between this is still my favorite music moment ever! This whole CMA show that year had country acts paired up, 2nd best that night was Kelly Clarkson & Jason Aldean.

Yes at 09.00 minute mark , that was Jerry Douglas God of the Dobro giving His Nod of Approval. You probably don't realize who he is so...from wiki "Gerald Calvin "Jerry" Douglas (born May 28, 1956) is an American Dobro and lap steel guitar player and record producer. He is widely regarded as "perhaps the finest Dobro player in contemporary acoustic music, and certainly the most celebrated and prolific." A fourteen-time Grammy winner, he has been called “dobro’s matchless contemporary master,” by The New York Times, and is among the most innovative recording artists in music, both as a solo artist and member of numerous bands, such as Alison Krauss and Union Station and The Earls of Leicester. He has been a co-director of the Transatlantic Sessions since 1998. In addition to his fourteen solo recordings, Douglas has played on more than 1,600 albums. As a sideman, he has recorded with artists as diverse as Garth Brooks, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Phish, Dolly Parton, Susan Ashton, Paul Simon, Mumford & Sons, Keb' Mo', Ricky Skaggs, Elvis Costello, Tommy Emmanuel, James Taylor and Johnny Mathis, as well as performing on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack and the follow up "Down From the Mountain" tour with Alison Krauss and Union Station. He has collaborated with various groups including The Whites, New South (band), The Country Gentlemen, Strength in Numbers, and Elvis Costello's "Sugar Canes". "

This is one of the best moments in music history. Dude. Are you on a treadmill? Great idea but how funny!. Anything with Chris Stapleton is too of the crop. JT is so great with him. What a duo.

You weren't annoying at all I'm glad to someone react like me. There is so much excitement and energy in this performance. I was standing up in my living room like I was in the audience. My kids started yelling at me for waking them up.

I was blessed to attend a Chris Stapleton concert in Charlottesville, VA with my teenage son and twin sister pre-Covid and it was A-MA-ZING! Chris' abilities are other-worldly and his talent knows no boundaries. He is, without a doubt, one of my all-time favorite artists across all genres.

The song Tennessee Whiskey was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. The song has been recorded by David Allan Coe (1981), George Jones (1983), and Chris Stapleton (2015). Chris Stapleton's version is my FAVORITE!

I love that this is at an awards show so it shows how good it is that the professionals that fill the crowd, many of which may be there to win awards, are so into the performance. Can't help but be into this! EDIT: I literally made this comment 10 seconds before you basically said the same thing lmao.

The first time I heard this was the 2015 CMAs. I had never heard of Chris and was in another room when this came on. I heard a voice (Chris) that grabbed my soul and ran into the living-room to see who was singing. Since that moment, Chris continues my all time favorite voice. BUT THIS performance just rocks my world now and forever. Not only was it monumental, but they were having a BLAST performing together!!! Everyone was loving it. Chris can sing duets with anyone and has! And yet, he’s still a humble man. I’ll go to my grave following him. 🤗

The backing band was really into this as well…not just the audience…see the enthusiasm and joy they have on their faces and in their movements….rarely do we see the backing musicians respond like this.
