This intermediate and advanced guitar lesson is on the traditional Bill Monroe tune Tennessee Blues I learned listening to the Skaggs & Rice album from the 90s. I’ll put a link to this song below. If you’ve never heard this record I recommend everyone give it a listen. Ricky and Tony sound incredible together and this song is a testament to that album. It’s one I think all of you will out there in KZread land will get a wealth of knowledge from.
What I’ve done with this song is take about six of Ricky’s breaks and transpose the mandolin ideas over to guitar. It’s not exactly note for note, but I catch the flavor of it and try to bring that across in this lesson. Getting some cool mandolin licks on guitar will enhance everything about your playing.
Be patient with yourself when you’re working out this arrangement. If you have any issues, work on that part until you get it and move to the next. With a little hard work you should be able to get this under your thumb in no time.
Bring this tune to your next jam session or gig and I think everyone will enjoy it. You can also use this arrangement as a guitar solo piece for those of you soloists out there!
