The chorus is an age long folklore that has been handed down from generations of Ondo Ekimogun people of Ondo State in South West Nigeria. In ancient history, the Yoruba people live a communal lifestyle. The good of others is a plus to one. Unlike nowadays where people live independent of others and the dearth of communal goodwill, the song reminds us all of the greatness in communal living. 2. meaning "my rejoicing with others has brought forth my own source of joy" 3. "Uyo Meyo is a traditional Ondo saying from Nigeria that talks about rejoicing and happiness. The Ondo tribe is part of the larger Yoruba culture in South-West Nigeria." 4. In African Traditional Religion, the place of “Ori” cannot be overemphasized. Ori, literally meaning “head,” refers to one’s spiritual intuition and destiny. It is the reflective spark of human consciousness embedded into the human essence, and therefore is often personified as an Orisha in its own right. Teni begs her Ori to let her prosper and guard her. She pleads with her Ori to open doors for her. 5. Here she’s doing something called the “Oriki” its common among the Yoruba tribe in West Africa (Nigeria) which translates to “praise poetry”. The oríkì varies in length depending on whether it is the name given to a child to describe the future portents of the life or a recital of the accomplishments of a person’s clan. It is invoked to praise a child for bringing pride to the parents or to attempt to evoke virtuous character traits of bravery, fortitude and perseverance that are believed to be innate in a person by pedigree. 6. Then she went on to invoke the spirit of her late father “Omoluwoleja Apata” 7. In Yoruba traditional setting, the dead is saintly and a communication with the dead is expected to be done with a pure heart and soul. Again, she tapped into the rich Yoruba traditions by calling on the dead not to sleep. Yoruba believe a dead parent is the Guardian Spirit of his/her children. It is reciprocated. She has made him proud as a worthy child that has kept his name alive despite the wishes of the enemy to kill it off. She is demanding that he protects her in return cause she’s made her proud and he should be happy wherever he is. here's the link to the site lyricstranslate.com/en/uyo-meyo-lets-rejoice.html

Uyo meyo lehun osan o kan mi o eh Meaning - it's my turn for people to rejoice with me just the way I've rejoiced with so many of them. 2:22 I will go above and beyond where my father and mother couldn't reach in life. 2:32 my head (my God) please make a way for me in this life. 2:39 my head (my God) do not sleep (please rise on my behalf. 3:03 my hands are clean and pure (a Yoruba way of claiming innocence. 3:08 I will walk tall, heads up. Till I get to the top. 3:12 calling her indigenous traditional names. Reminding herself of the daughter of who she is and how she'll continue to hold on. 3:25 they thought and even said it's over with me but God said No. I'm just starting. 3:35 children covers nakedness better than clothes do for the body 3:40 Olaosebikan (his dead dad presumably,) please don't sleep wherever you are. Walk with me everyday. Don't let the enemies worry me. 3:55 wherever you are looking down on me,(possibly referring to the dad), I know you are happy because I'm making you proud. 4:05 I'm walking tall in life. Yes I am! 4:12 I'm successful in this one life I've got. Yes I am! I hope this helps.

Music Translation for non-Yoruba speakers and Yoruba speakers The struggle to translate this song by native Yoruba speakers is understandable because the song is rendered in a dialect that is not widely spoken but what is not understandable are native Yoruba speakers literally translating “Ori” to mean “head”. Indeed “Ori’s” English translation is “head” but within the context of this song and the Yoruba language it translates to an individual’s “Divine Destiny”. To translate such an inspirational song literally is to erode the wealth of message being conveyed by the artist. Chorus the joy that I express the joy that I express oh joy! the joy that I express for the good fortunes of others, that same joy is now mine Verse 2 ( The essence of "ORI") What my eyes have seen eh eyeh oh the adversities that I have encountered Don’t let them tell you, “you can’t” And they won’t help you just so you know Just keep on pushing oh uhooo The height that my father could not attain I will attain and also surpass the height that my mother could not attain I will attain and also surpass My head (divine destiny), my head (divine destiny), I beg of you my head (divine destiny), oh pave the way for my heart's desire my head (destiny), do not slumber! I have taken some time to provide a proper & full translation through this KZread link : kzread.info/dash/bejne/p5h6yqSNdNLLecY.html&ab_channel=Unotool Enjoy!

Perfect! You did a very good job, not just translating the meaning, but getting the depth and the essence of what she was trying to communicate. The sing is very deep, very spiritual. That’s why it touches the soul in a very deep way, and almost brings one to tears. This song was birthed in the crucible of a very deep experience. That’s what we all feel when we listen to it, even for those who do t understand Yoruba! Thanks 🙏 thanks
