Ten Tors in a Day | Hiking Dartmoor

In this video, we'll be completing Dartmoor's Ten Tors Challenge, but with a twist! Usually it's done over two days with an overnight camp, but were doing a shorter 15-mile hike at marching speed, aiming to complete the tour in just 6 hours! This adventure will take us through high moorland and rolling valleys, it's full of awe-inspiring peaks such as Yes Tor and High Willhays, the highest point south of the Brecon Beacons.
Get clean, get fit, get living!
Sorry about some of the clips, had some production and storage issues which had changed some of the edits and also removed about 10 mins worth of content, so you might see me waving at the camera to start tracking and things like that. The proper edit was alot smoother, so sorry for some clunky confusing shots.

Good video. Without wishing to be a party pooper, it's worth explaining that the event run by the military in spring for young folk is a different thing to a day hike around ten of the tors. I was there with my daughter for the Ten Tors event earlier in the year. The event for the kids is either 35, 45, or 55 miles, with an overnight camp, the distance depends on their age. My daughter's team did the 45 mile one, but the actual distance was nearer 50.

Hi Toby, thanks for your comment, I did originally include that information but the edits were removed due to storage and production issues. I explained how it’s run by the army with the 3 different routes and an overnight camp. I had information about the okehampton army training camp, however edits were removed without me able to fix them. The description has explained some of this issues. It is described as a ten tors with a twist. That sounds like a great thing for your daughter to do. Well done to her for that achievement!

@@addict2athlete I just thought I'd say it, so if anyone is researching the Ten Tors Challenge, they get the full picture of what they're letting themselves in for. Your hike is a lot like one of their training days, which they do a lot of to get fit enough and accustomed to the terrain. If you extend the hike just an hour or so, pop in an overnighter, repeat the next day, then you've pretty much done the equivalent. I camped wild for one of their training nights, at Dunna Goat Tor, walking up from The Fox and Hounds (stayed there the night before). Can recommend that as a starter location, also Green Tor, and the ruin near there. Another starter camping option is Black-A-Tor. Best save all that for the spring / summer though.

No problem it’s good to hear what people say, it wasn’t meant to be a video of the actual Ten Tors which requires a sign-up and teams, so sorry if I’ve caused any confusion. It’s just me hiking ten different tors in a day as my own training hike for a future video, which will be Okehampton to Ivybridge. The video is missing nearly 10 minutes of footage due to issues, so a lot of important information is gone. I didn’t want to lose the video so uploaded anyway with a description that explains it. Thanks for your advice I’ll be sure to look at them tors and maybe work out some routes. I’ll pin your original comment to the top so people will know this isn’t the real Ten Tors that is often heard about. Cheers 🏕️

Oh cool that must be nice to live so close to the moors! Some really great tors up that end. Yeah was a great day, planning another hike soon. Really want to do a winter camp there, I’d love to see some snow but just need more gear for winter hiking/camping ❄️

@@addict2athlete I got super lucky at the beginning of December and had a day off when we had that snow, so I did a little 10 tors in 10 miles hike around the Haytor/Saddle Tor/Hound Tor area! I’d definitely recommend, everything looks so different in the snow!
